Contrary to the hotels.com description, there is not complimentary access to a fitness facility. On the other hand, the breakfast served at the Alsterblick exceeded all expectations.

Location. Hotel Alsterblick is located in Hamburg, Germany, 100 metres from the shores of Alster Lake. The neo-Renaissance Town Hall is two kilometres away, and the Speicherstadt harbour district is three kilometres from the hotel.

Hotel Features. This white-fronted, late 19th-century hotel has maintained its original features, including Romanesque interior pillars and an ornate lift. Complimentary newspapers are available in the lobby. Other amenities include room service (limited hours), as well as babysitting and childcare services. The hotel also serves complimentary breakfast buffets in the historic ballroom overlooking the Alster River. A bar offers a range of cocktails and refreshments. The hotel encourages guests to utilise its rear garden for picnics.

Guestrooms. Chunky wooden headboards, high ceilings, soft pastel colour schemes, bright fabrics, and wooden floors characterise the contemporary guestrooms. All rooms include satellite television, direct-dial phones, minibars, safes, and complimentary newspapers. Black-marble bathrooms have showers.

Expert Tip. One of the major sights in Hamburg is St. Michaelis, an early 17th-century Lutheran Church. After being struck by lightning and damaged by fires, the building was rebuilt as originally intended in 1906. The church tower features panoramic city views.
