Trip Type: Special Event Review 1 of 300The shared bathroom wasn't a problem after all
Except that you need to step out and walk 5 feet, it was like an exclusive bathroom.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 300Decent Value
Has potential to be a real bargain. On check in elevator was out of order. However, they gave me a 1st floor room as a result so it wasn't a problem but could have had a very different outcome if it was packed that particular evening. Also, asked for a non-smoking room but found ash tray in the room. Again, probably a function of the room switch because of the elevator. The room was fine, however. Net, net ... I would definitely stay there again. Good value for the location but I would make sure the elevator is working, etc. etc. etc. before I confirmed the reservation.

Trip Type: Romance Review 4 of 300Good clean hotel
I stayed at hotel 17 for three nights with my girlfriend and found the stay very pleasant. The location is good, and in area with lots of restaurants and bars. Considering it is on manhatten I think the price is quite good. The hotel is a bit old and has shared bathrooms, but everything is very clean. If I come back to NYC I will stay here again.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 5 of 300Remember the price!
I got a great rate and figured it was pretty cheap for a NYC hotel while still being in a cool area and having lots of history and character. When I arrived, the fellow at the front desk was fairly typical. He was bored, distracted and standoffish. But it's NYC. I wasn't expecting a motherly old lady to hand me cookies and tuck me in. The elevator is slow and small, but worked. The hallways are a bit tight and give the impression of a dark warren of too many rooms squished into a fairly small building. I never saw *anyone* in the hallway near my room, which was a little weird! It felt nice and private, though, I suppose. The room was small and the tiny twin bed a lot firmer than I'm used to, but the telly worked and so did the hair dryer and alarm clock. All I did was sleep there, so it was comfortable for me. The shared bathroom was always spotless and available when I needed it. I had no trouble with maid service, who were thorough and timed their visits perfectly for my needs. Just remember what you're paying for with a rate this low in NYC! It's a great hotel if you want character and charm, but if you want pampering or upscale living, don't bother.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 6 of 300loud AC
Everything was great about the hotel and the room was fine too except for the AC unit was extremely loud. When the compressor would kick in and then go off it was really hard if not impossible to sleep due to the way it kicked in. The whole shared bathroom thing was no problem at all; wasnt sure what to expect but it was fine and clean. The neighborhood was nice and safe as well.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 11 of 300Good value
My family and I have stayed at this hotel several times, and is is a great little hotel in a nice neighborhood. We were a little wary at first with the shared bath, but there are four bathrooms on every floor and very clean. You just have to wait your turn. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 300A bit expensive for what you get
I didn't think this was particularly good value in a hotel where you had to share a bathroom.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 14 of 300Great Value!
Remember: You ain't in Kansas, so don't expect that spending (barely) 3 digits is gonna get you a sitting room and spa. I expected more of a hostel atmosphere but was pleasantly surprised. Very clean, tastefully decorated, modern and quiet. Location is very convenient. Don't get scared off by the shared bathroom arrangement - never a problem, plenty of hot water, no wait, and (did I mention?) very clean. As a former resident of Jersey City, I have more than a passing familiarity with NYC, and I don't think you can find a better value. I'd definitely recommend.
