Great Value

We only had a chance to stay there one night before taking the ferry to the South Island, but during our 14 days throughout New Zealand and Australia, this might be the best hotel we stayed at. The room was comfortable, everything was very clean and had a great view of the harbor. The breakfast at the restaurant was a little overpriced for a continental breakfast and parking was a little tough, but overall - the staff, the accomodations and the location - the stay was fantastic.

A Pretty But Average Hotel

This was a fairly nice looking Holiday Inn property. I was kind of irked because I reserved a room with a "Harbour View", but that is now gone because of construction next door. So don't get your hopes up. Though I did have a nice view of Parliament. I guess the location is good for doing business, but it's a good 15-20 minute walk from all the nightlife going on down on Cuba Street and Courtenay Place. The breakfast was also pretty good and you could do a lot worse as a business traveler. I already know that broadband is limited in NZ, but here it was very irritating because instead of paying extra, it just slows down to a crawl after 100MB. I'm sure some people prefer it that way, but I would have rather paid for the extra MBs and not had to sit there agonizing over it. Between that and being next to a gas station, it's not close to the ferry, it's not close to the fun bars... I won't stay here again and I will look around. But I wouldn't tell you not to stay here. I just think you can do better. Definitely not a "4.5 star" hotel.
