Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 73Great Location!
The location of this hotel is perfect! You step out the door and you're on the main street in Chinatown - perfect for shopping and restaurants. The hotel itself is nice too. It's not one with a lot of modern conveniences and the rooms are small, but if you just want a place to sleep for a great price, this hotel is great. If you want to spend a lot of time in your hotel room (and why would you on vacation?), I would suggest using another hotel. The staff was also very friendly.

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 73Good deal for the money.
The other reviewers aren't kidding about the small rooms. It's been a really long time since my wife and I shared a double bed. However, since we're in the process of catching up on the TV series Mad Men, where the couples sleep in double beds, it was kinda' interesting. The location can't be beat, one block inside the entrance to Chinatown. You're close to a cable car stop, but you're really in walking distance to a lot of stuff, if you like to walk (we do). Overall, a really cool little place. We'll probably do it again next time.

Trip Type: Business Review 5 of 73location and price
It's a two star hotel, so considering that, it was a good experience. This hotel is great if you want to be right in downtown at a good price. The rooms are somewhat spartan in decor and size (I could touch the the small tv AND the bathroom door without leaving my bed), but it is functional--even had a little desk with chair. No major gripes. I had view of another building wall, which shouldn't be a surprise located in downtown. The location is great--one block inside of china town--where you could do some nice souvenir shopping. The room didn't seem to have a way to regulate the temperature but the hotel did seem to regulate it very well on the cold nights--no complaints. All in all, I would recommend staying there for the location and price--not so much for romantic trip, unless maybe you're a struggling college couple or newlyweds.

Very friendly service at the desk, awesome location, would recommend to anyone. By far the best value in an overpriced city!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 9 of 73Great location
We stayed in Grant Plaza for 3 nights. First of all, its location is great. It is 5-10 minutes walking away from Union Square, where you can shop, eat and take metro and cable cars. Hotel is located in China Town and walking distance away from North Beach where you can eat delicious Italian food. The weak point about Grant Plaza was smallnes of rooms. It is quiet small but clean. If you are going to get into room just for sleeping, basically what we did, it is acceptable. One thing that I can recommend to whom will accommodate in Grant Plaza is to request the room with outside view. Because the one we are staying was no scenery thus we could not see the sunshine.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 11 of 73Great location
The hotel is old, it has small rooms with small beds, doesn't have ironing boards, you've got to pay for ice, the showers are very small as well, but the location is unbeatable! You are right in China Town. Overall I was happy with this choice and I would do it again.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 12 of 73amenities?
The room was really small - "queen" bed was full size. However, it overlooked Chinatown, and was charming. No free wifi. booooo No breakfast. Boooooo We were lucky enough to get on street free parking, but would have had to pay a lot to park in their contracted garage. Busses nearby to get everywhere.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 13 of 73Go for the Deluxe Room
Great location, steps to bustling, hustling Chinatown and North Beach during the day, and right around the corner from restaurants, bars, clubs, and of course shopping of Union Square in the evening. Unless you don't mind a view of a brick wall, opt for a room facing the street, which is surprisingly quiet for such a central downtown location. They're not much more expensive, and the standard rooms are fairly cramped and stuffy by comparison. No cable TV. The whole place is kind of dingy but a good value on a safe block. Stay in the heart of it all in San Francisco, and keep your cash for walking around.
