Trip Type: Not Provided Review 2 of 7Outstanding Hotel
before we booked the reservation I did a lot of research. I think the Hotel was a great fit for us! The food was good, the people were awesome, the activities and shows were a lot of fun. You have beach access from the hotel. The hotel was always clean and the rooms were clean also. I also heard a lot about the "time share" people...Honestly, I think the people in Vegas are 100 times more annoying than at the GR Solaris. We told Christine one time when we arrived that we would let her know if we were interested and she left us alone the entire time. I would highly recommend the hotel to anybody that is looking for a resort that will provide all inclusive services!

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 7Very nice week
We shopped quite a while for hotels (mostly through on-line reviews) and found the typical smattering of results. In general the average review was accurate. Nice hotel, attentive staff. The room was acceptable - but our room-safe did not work initiatlly and took several tries to correct (although they did try promptly and diligently to do so). About 1/2 way through the AC unit started making noises that were hard to describe to the staff. We used room-service only once on our day of departure (too early for the restaurant) and the service was very timely and food very good. The daily all-inclusive fair was very good at breakfast, fair at lunch, and very nice at dinner. I should add our trip was at the height of the H1N1 scare, and there was very little competition for reservations at Marco Polo. From reading prior reviews I would expect this to be more difficult when the hotel is at capacity. Food and service in the Marco Polo was Excellent! The pool was loud during the day with many activities all broadcast over loudspeakers, that were difficult to ignore if you didn't want to take part. Lounge chair and unbrella access was simple, but again the hotel was far below full capacity. The beach was nice enough, not much depth to the beach but what was there had ample soft clean sand. If you haven't been to Cancun before it is worth going. A few things to be aware of: - Uniformed and official looking people stationed at desks near the exit are not the travel, airport or hotel representatives they perport to be. Walk past or you will get your first immersion into the time-share realm. Bring US and MX currency. Many people say they like US currency, but be aware that the exchnage rate is pretty causal, and on taxis and buses and even the hotels the ture exchange rate of ~12.7:1 is rounded down to 10:1 to keep the math simple, but that can cost you a lot extra. In short I'd go back, and I wouldn't even wait for the next pandemic!

Trip Type: Family Review 4 of 7Not bad but not the best.
Expected a little more from a four star in the way of food. For the most part the place was clean. Pools were nice. We stayed 3 nights and did NOT get a lobster dinner because it's only on Fridays, no exception. Extreamly loooong wait at the fancy restuarant, not really worth it. Shows were ok. The beach is just about gone.Very sad thing there. In fact we liked the Royal Solaris for the kids swimming pool. There is some confusion there about using the ammenities at the Royal (Sister Hotel) Some staff said NO. and some staff said they didn't know. So we just used it, and no problems. Weird huh?

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 7Great hotel.
Our family had a wonderful four day vacation. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. After reading other reviews about the Cancun beaches I was pleased that the GR Solaris beach was beautiful. There was plenty of sand and my 11,15 and 18 yr. old children loved the body surfing. The 54 year old big kid even held his own.:)The pools were beautiful and warm. The 24 hr room service was prompt and very convenient. I enjoyed the lobster night and the spanish coffee served at tea time. We were not solicited for the club. The whole family loved the Chichen itchu day tour (Mayan Ruins). The 2+ hour bus ride into the interior of mexico was enlightening and the ruins were impressive. The tour included a stop at a beautiful sink hole (lagoon) The teens & the big kid really enjoyed the short swim and jumping into the water from a ten+ foot ledge. We had a great family vacation! It was well worth the money & will return in the future.

This hotel was a real disappointment. We checked out after one night. Service was terrible, room was dirty and general condition was poor. 4 Stars must have different criteria. This hotel would be a good spring break location for teens but for mature professional couples I would not recommend it.
