Trip Type: Not Provided Review 1 of 54needs improvement
They are remodeling, and put me in a terrible room on the fourth floor. I also asked for non-smoking and they put me in a smoking room. Hopefully things will improve once they'r finished remodeling. The parking lot was being worked on, also, and thus parking was inadequate.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 2 of 54Undergoing rennovations
The Gold Spike is currently undergoing rennovations (November 2009). Not sure when rennovations are to be completed. The room was satisfactory and the price was right. It's very convenient to the Freemont Street Experience and accessible to major highways.

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 5 of 54marginal hotel
I would probably stay there again if I was going to stay downtown, only if it was the absolute cheapest hotel in vegas. The one bright spot was the $5.99 prime rib dinner in the cafe. It was one of the biggest pieces of meat I have ever had. Served with baked potato and corn and was delicious. Downtown Vegas just has to many unsavory charactors hanging around.

No mention of the remodel going on at the hotel. Dust everywhere. No parking. Bad experience.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 7 of 54A good budget hotel
A good economical alternative to the high priced hotels up the street. Friendly and helpfull staff, restruant isn't fancy but food qualty is good and prices are reasonable. I will not not hesitate to stay there again.

Trip Type: Business Review 8 of 54Best Value in Downtown
Remodeling was in proces , but presented little inconvience . This is the lowest priced hotel in Downtown and maybe all of Vegas yet the accomadations were comfortable and in the 2 to 2 1/2 star range . Freemont Street is a block or two so you can get the whole Downtown Experience without being stuck in one big mega casino and without risking traffic tickets renting cars , etc.

Trip Type: Business Review 9 of 54Worst Hotel
The hotel is located in an unsafe area. The bathroom sink had shaved hair in it. It was like someone empty their razor in the sink. the manager said they were book so I couldn't move to a different room. They had the maid clean the bathroom. You could feel the springs in the mattress. there were holes in the walls of the hallway with insulation sticking out. Wallpaper was pealing away from the walls. The curtains were coming off the hooks. This is the worst hotel I have ever been in. I cancelled the rest of my stay. And then they charged me $37.50 for cancelling.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 10 of 54Lowest price, and quality.
I got an awesome deal on the price of the hotel. Problem was they are remodeling so the room wasn't real bad, but the hallways smelled funky. The beds were hard, but the room was livable. Definatly a budget hotel, but once they finish the remodel it should be a nice looking hotel. And the BJ tables are great! Very nice dealers who make it a lot of fun

Trip Type: Special Event Review 14 of 54Cheap price so it was what I expected
I could not believe that I found a hotel room in Las Vegas for such a low price. I felt the money that I paid for the room was indeed a good value. I was not expecting a high quality resort for the price and I received a decent place to sleep for a low price. The employees were very friendly to me. The hotel is doing rennovations. The cold water pressure was low in the bathroom sink. The toilet didn't flush well. The sink and shower did not drain quickly. The hotel restaurant was not of the best quality but it was convenient. It did offer Prime Rib dinner for a really low price. In general, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay and aren't overly picky, this hotel will fit the bill. The casino had some nice slot and poker machines, if that is the type of gambling that you like. It is a small casino but in walking distance of plenty of others, as it is in walking distance to the Fremont Experience (one block away) and also in walking distance from a Walgreen Pharmacy (if you forget incidentals). I would not recommend this hotel, however if you have high standards. You do get what you pay for. It worked well for my brother and me. We stayed without regret for four nights.

Trip Type: Business Review 15 of 54Okay deal for the money
I was wary of staying here, but it wasn't bad at all. Room was decent, although a bit small. No remote for TV, like some others said. Biggest problem was finding parking on some nights--other nights wasn't a problem at all. 5 minute wait opened up parking spot. One black from Freemont St. was nice. Also close to bus station and city hall. No additional facilities fee, despite what the info page said. What I paid online was total price. They didn't even ask for credit card upon check-in. For the price, I would stay again.
