Trip Type: Business Review 1 of 156Noisey Hotel
Overall nice hotel, BUT... because it is right on 5th street, the noise is overwhelming! On Friday and Saturday nights you wont get to sleep until after 2 or 3 am.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 156Good Hotel, Location
Good Hotel and Location but a little far from the convention center(about 8-10 mins walk). Hotel on the main street (6th st.)of Gaslamp plaza. So it is sometimes . There is m.wave, ref, several cups, dishes and even dishwashing detergent :)

Trip Type: Romance Review 5 of 156Great Service
I've stayed at a couple of different hotels in the Downtown area, and this was by far the best experience I've had. The service was great, the mini suite was roomy, and the little extras (glasses, plates, great ambiance)were perfect for a romantic weekend. Also, the rooftop lounge area was a great place to relax and just enjoy the hustle and bustle of the city. A pleasant experience all around!

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 156Great room
The hotel GREAT! We were there for one night. The air conditioner didn't seem to be working to well in the bedroom area, but in the seating area it was fine. It wasn't too bad because we were there in October, and the weather was pretty mild. Other then that it was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 8 of 156great old hotel in party neighborhood
The hotel was a great old place with big rooms and lots of windows. Our room had a wonderful view of the Gaslamp area. Unfortunately on Saturday nights this district is full of revellers -- so take it or leave it. You might want an upper story room for more quiet nights, or the lower one to people-watch. The front office staff were friendly and informative. The breakfast was poor, just cereal, a juice, coffee, toast, and moderate pastries. They could improve it a lot with just hot oatmeal or even cream cheese for the white bread. Our suite was well-decorated with a comfortable pull out queen and nice bedding. Would recommend and would go back (with our own breakfast in hand!) Great rooftop area for evenings and breakfast, with a view of the port and ocean.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 9 of 156Charming
I liked the "old world" atmosphere, the marble, wood, and tiles restored to look good. It is not a modern cookie cutter hotel, it has character. The staff were very helpful.

Trip Type: Business Review 13 of 156Friendly Place of Character in the Gaslamp
The Gaslamp Plaza Suites is right off Fifth Street in San Diego's bustling Gaslamp Quarter. The prices were quite reasonable, and the rooms were clean. This is an old building and retains much of the quirks and character of the original architecture, which some may find charming and others might consider strange (It's certainly not the Hilton). The drapes and bedspreads were rather garish and dated and were made of low-grade polyester. The sheets and pillows were fine, although nothing to write home about; the beds were a bit firm for my taste. The room came with a microwave and some dishes, but I don't think I'd go as far as recommending it for an extended stay (my colleauge and I were there for a one-night stay on business. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and the access to the many restaurants and shopping opportunities were a definite plus. If you go there, make sure to stop up on the roof for a great view of the Gaslamp Quarter and downtown. We were there on a Monday night, so the neighborhood was fairly quiet at night, but I'm sure it's much louder Thursday through Saturday, so keep that in mind. I think it's a fine choice for a budget-conscsious traveller spending a couple of days in the San Diego area looking for convenient access to San Diego's downtown and other areas.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 15 of 156Needs Improvement
The hotel was cute for an overnight stay but the older and smaller room we stayed in had a major problem. However, the sink in our bathroom did not drain. I called and complained but the front desk told me that the hotel maintenance had left for the day and that I should just "bear" with it. I was very dissatisfied and angry because there were no back up maintenance crew to perform such a simple taks of unclogging the sink! My friends stayed in the bigger rooms and their room had no problems whatsoever. If I choose this hotel next time, I would highly recommend staying in the bigger rooms because they're more modern and does not have as many problems.
