Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 1 of 79We like this place
We don't get to northern VA often, but this is where we stay.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 2 of 79What I expected
I wanted to stay in Virginia Beach but not on the beach. It was quiet, comfortable and accessible. Staff was friendly and the facilities were fine.

The hotel environment was good and the room clean, but the bed, mattress and bedding were very disappointing. The mattress was too soft including the pillows. The sheets were very old and the bed spread did not smell fresh. The carpet was dirty entering the hallway to the rooms.

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 79Loved the grounds and outdoor pool
We had a large, corner fireplace room in the building next to the pool and spa. The room was extremely clean, the refrig cold enough to freeze items, 2 sinks (one outside bathroom), and a comfortable king bed. We played tennis, walked the English gardens, and spent most of our time in the outdoor pool and waterslide. The water was warm enough to get in without 'adjusting' with each step, yet still refreshing. All in all, a great experience!

Trip Type: Special Event Review 8 of 79OUTSTANDING HOTEL
I had already checked out the Founders Inn and Spa website and loved the location (Close to Regent University) but I found the rooms to be even lovelier than the pictures. The beds were the most comfortable (soft) that I had ever slept in at a hotel (and I have been to many very nice ones). The service was very nice and the staff, very friendly. The restaurant (Hunt Room) was also very nice. The food was excellent although I felt they were a little understaffed. Overall, a very nice hotel experience.

Trip Type: Romance Review 9 of 79Good location
Overall we enjoyed our stay. We liked the location. The inn has a nice feel to it, but it is a little on the older side. The one thing that disappointed us the most was the hot tub. It was closed for maintenance the first night and then on the second night it was open but the jetts were not working. It is also very small. We were looking forward to the indoor pool and hot tub but were pretty disappointed with that. They do have a big outdoor pool that seemed nice. Our room was nice and we slept pretty well.

Trip Type: Family Review 10 of 79Needs lots of improvement
When we arrived at the hotel, the receptionist told us that no room where available right away even though we made a reservation. We had to wait 15 minutes before one was available. We upgraded to a suite wich had a queen size ssofabed. The mattress was so worn out i could feel every spring and the sofa bed was falling apart. When I laid down my feet hit the ground since 6 out of the 10 springs that hold the mattress where missing. For the money we being charged it should have been a much better room. We complaint and they sent an "engineer" he said he could fix it with a wire! WHAT!!!! a wire!? We complaint and they gave us our old room back. The bathrooms are not very clean. They have white tile and the grout was black and mold in the tiles in the shower.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 11 of 79Excellent Quality and Excellent Price
All the hotels in VA Beach are outrageously priced but they offer easy access to the beach and/or ocean views. This hotel is cheaper because it is 20 minutes from the beach. I would rather spend less and drive 20 minutes than spend twice as much and be 20 seconds from the beach. So if you are the kind of person who likes to get away from the busy streets at the end of the day then this is the hotel for you. The hotels in VA beach are crowded and the rooms are full of sand. The Founders Inn is absolutely beautiful, it's quiet, and it has so many things to do on the hotel grounds. There are four pools that my two boys loved. There is an indoor pool and an indoor jacuzzi. Then there is an outdoor pool that has one of those zero entries so my two year old stayed in the opening of the pool because he could splash around with the water only going up to his knees. There is another pool outside that is strictly for the 20 foot water slide. It is one of those enclosed water-park style slides. There is also a playground on the hotel premises and tennis courts. Also there is a spa there where you can get pedicures, manicures, facials, mud wraps and massages. The prices of those services are the same as your higher end spas and have to be booked in advance. The room itself was very clean and the beds were comfy and soft. There seemed to be a moisture problem in the room which made it impossible for our bathing suits to dry when we left them hanging. We had to leave the window open for about an hour or two to get rid of some of the dampness. There is a common living room area in the main foyer of each hall which reminded me of my old college dorm. We had room service sent up to our room one night during our stay. The food was overpriced and not that good. The hotel is equal distance to the beach, the zoo, the aquarium and all the malls. It is surrounded by restaurants, grocery stores, a laundromat and easy access to the highways so it's not "out in the boonies". We called the lo

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 12 of 79Outstanding for the Price
Our stay at the Founders Inn was much better than my wife and I expected. The hotel sits on a large landscaped property with a lot of quaint and scenic spots just to relax. The location was good, about a 10-15 minute drive to the beach, and the resaurant in the hotel had great service and food. The rooms were old fashioned and cozy. I definately would stay again.
