See more detailsLocation. The Explorean Kohunlich is located in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Kohunlich is two kilometers from the hotel and is an archaeological site of the Mayan civilization. It is surrounded by sub-tropical rainforest. Thatch rooftops dot the hotel's jungle grounds.
Hotel Features. The hotel restaurant, La Palapa, offers gourmet regional and national cuisine from 7 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. The bar, offers cocktails and snacks from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Other restaurants are located within the city of Chetumal. The Explorean Kohunlich's sauna and spa include two massage rooms offering 25- or 50-minute massages for a fee. Salt mineral, mud and seaweed treatments are also available. The hotel provides equipment and instruction by professional guides in activities such as catamaran sailing or rappelling down a 100-foot cliff. Guests are provided with bicycles as a healthy and environmentally friendly means of transportation. There are three trails through the jungles where guests may encounter parrots, cranes and other jungle wildlife.
Guestrooms. Guestrooms include a private terrace overlooking the jungle with a sofa, an outdoor hammock and private garden. The spacious guestrooms include separate seating. Elaborately carved bedside tables are just part of the Mayan décor in the guestrooms. All the furnishings are made with local wood. Guestrooms provide jungle views.
Expert Tip. The main attraction of the Kohunlich site is the Temple of the Sun. The structure features 5-foot tall masks in detail. Howler monkeys, toucans and foxes are often seen in the area.
