Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 309quiet, lovely decor, excellent service
hotels.com saved us some money. Excelsior was quiet, nice decor. For our purposes it was an excellent location.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 309needs improvement
great location. close to Central Park, subways, NH Museum. Room temp was 85 degrees and we had to open windows. Hallways were worse. Paint on rug in several places. Furniture worn, threadbare. Room laid out poorly. Nice bar downstairs, but service was awful. Price was ok, but clearly not a bargin. Lobby and elevators looked nicer than rest of hotel.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 4 of 309Maybe a different room...
The room was stuffy and we could not get the window a/c to work. The other window would not close all the way. The shower drained very slowly. The beds were comfortable. We would probably stay there again if we could try a different room, because it is convenient to where we wanted to be.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 5 of 309Old fashioned Elegance
This was a lovely place and well situated. The room (suite) was very nice. The furnishings were old but still nice. Bathroom was small. It was a cosy place and the service was good. Staff were both friendly and helpful. Parking was across the street in the Museum of Natural History garage with a discount that was more than reasonable.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 6 of 309Great location
We received a great rate on our room so I thought we would try this hotel. We came in to LGA and it took about 30 minutes to get to the hotel on a Thursday around noon. I like the upper west side and being close to the subway. This was across from the Natural History Museum and the subway was at the end of the block. Being next to Central Park would be a plus if the weather was better. Our room was very nice, had everything we needed. We had a room with two twin beds. We were on the 5th floor and faced the back of peoples homes so it was quiet. The only issue was with the heater. It is water heat and takes awhile (maybe 45 minutes) to start kicking out heat. Trying to get it adusted to keep the room at a good temp took a while and when the cleaning person turned it off we were back to square one again that night. It has a temp dial (blue to red) and high and low heat and air and fan only. My mom went to the breakfast (continental)and said it was quite nice and a fair price. I will definatly check back for our next trip to NY.

Trip Type: Business Review 7 of 309Good Hotel
For New York, this was a nice hotel room for the price. Location was good: Museum of Nat. History, Central Park, subway. Neighborhood was pretty quiet.

Trip Type: Romance Review 9 of 309Good hotel, but not exceptional in its price point.
The excelsior is a nice hotel, great location, clean and pretty. We had stayed there when we got married at Tavern on the Green, so we jumped at the chance to stay there again for our second anniversary. We called the hotel to request the same room that we had stayed in previously, and were told they would try, although they were fairly packed. I was instead disappointed when we were led to our room. I know it's NY, but the room was very small; much smaller than the room we had during our last stay at the excelsior. It did have a nice view, but not as breathtaking as the room I had requested. The room did have a bathroom with a shower/tub and was clean and well kept, but I was really hoping it could have been arranged for us to have the same room that we stayed in on our wedding night. We got an amazing deal (when compared to our last visit), otherwise I would have been very disappointed. Cons: They charge extra for internet service and when we requested a refrigerator (at an additional cost of course) the one they brought to our room was filthy on the inside, but they only charged us for one night (not 2) so we did not complain.

even though I booked a queen bed online with hotels .com I was told that my rate wouldn't allow that and had a choice of either 2 twins or one double.

Classic style New York Hotel, very nice conditon, Agret deal for the price, would highly reccommend. Location is is on the upper West side, great area to walk around, lots of good restaurants, easy access to the rest of the city.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 13 of 309Great Location/Great Hotel
All aspects of our stay were positive--the hotel is the process of making some improvements and we had a room that had been renovated fairly recently. The location cannot be beat--Central Park, subway access, outstanding neighborhood restaurants, etc. We will definitely try to stay here in the future.

Trip Type: Family Review 14 of 309Great room for the money
We enjoyed our stay. Most of the staff was very friendly and accomodating. The concierge was pretty rude when we asked a simple question. The room was nice, great location, beautiful neighborhood, convenient location to the subway (less than a block), museum, restaurants and central park. We would deffinately go back.

Trip Type: Romance Review 15 of 309Great hotel!
My husband and I went for a quick getaway to New York and we loved our hotel. It's such a nice neighborhood, next to the museum of natural history and central park. So convenient. Our room was great, we got upgraded to a junior suite. All around amazing.
