Encore Express

"Boutique"

This is what many consider a boutique hotel. In other words, it doesn't include some of the basic necessities, such as Heat/AC. It did have a refrigerator in the room I got. So, I was able to cool off a little. On the other hand, the room was quite large and had two very nice beds, in-room coffee, and plenty of lights. Be warned, you have to check in and out at a different location. It's at least 3 blocks away.

great deal for the money

I was expecting a standard private room as in other "youth hostels" and was surprised with the amenities here. There was a phone, coffee maker, dorm-size fridge, tv and wireless internet in the room. There was a microwave in the hall. There were several "shared" baths down each corridor. The downsides have been covered by others... check-in at the Nob Hill hotel up the hill and around the corner; no elevator; no common area to meet other travelers.

Good to know

I must have missed it, but did not realize the hotel rooms have no bathroom. There are two shared toilets and one shared shower on the entire second floor. Also, not sure where it was coming from, but there appears to be a rock band practicing some where in the building.

Needs Improvement with service and reservations

They refused at first to help us when the reservation wasn't correct. After working with them for over an hour just to get a private bathroom, they put us at the Nob Hill Hotel after saying they had no room in Encore Express

There' a band in the basement!

I went to crash at the end of the night, and there was a band playing in the basement of the building. After calling the front desk, I learned that the owner of the building practices with his band there, and they played until 10:30 at night. I was on the first floor, and there wasn't anything they could do that night. I would not recommend this hotel. In addition to the cost of staying there, you also have to pay $20 per day for parking if you own a car.

does the job

No front desk, so you have to walk 2-3 blocks to check in and out. But the rooms are decent for the price. Small but clean.

Super great for price

This hotel has no reception of its own. You must check in about a block away at a much nicer 5 star hotel. They give you a key card and you go about a block away to get in. Once there, however, I was surprised at how clean and nice everything was kept. My room was very small, but perfectly clean, nicely appointed, a refrigerator, small desk, television, and small sink with large mirror. Overall the look was cute, quaint and clean. The hotel was only a short walk to almost everything I wanted to do in SF. I paid a very reasonable price, and it was well worth it. I will finally be going back to SF regularly, now that there is a hotel like this.

Outstanding policy - great room for the money

We were arranged a more-than-expected room in the Nob Hill hotel where we checked in there for the Encore Express. The room has bathroom inside, tv, fridge, microwave oven and is very clean.
