Doubletree Hotel Wilmington Downtown

Wonderful Staff

My daughter, granddaughter & I stayed at the Doubletree in Wilmington because my granddaughter was having her tonsils removed at DuPont Hospital for Children. The distance and drive to the hospital is perfect, about 10 minutes. The staff was wonderful and could not have been more accomodating. When they heard why we were there they were even more helpful. Surgery was Outpatient, but living 3 hrs away we stayed a second night at the Doubletree to be close to the hospital. We went out and purchased Popsicles and Ice Cream for our little patient. The front desk staff sent our purchase to the freezer and told us not to worry, if we needed any of it, just call the front desk and they would bring it up...That night we did have an emergency and had to return to the hospital. In the wee early hours the staff was right there helping us get things to our car and trying to comfort us. The only draw back to this property is it's location....Downtown Wilmington is not the most desirable place to be, however we felt perfectly safe and taken care of while we were there. We just want to say...THANK YOU.

A Nice Place to Stay

We stayed here during our trip for a family wedding. We have stayed at Doubletree before and have not been disappointed. I would recommend this hotel. The only down sides are I did not feel safe walking through the garage at 2:00 in the morning when we arrived for check in. It was not very comforting when the garage clerk told us to take with us anything we did not want "thieves" getting (his words). The other set back was we were told by the same garage clerk that our parking would be included in our room rate only to be told it would be an additional daily fee by the hotel staff. So BE AWARE...you have to pay for parking. And this is the only place to park nearby. Otherwise, we were quite comfortable, staff was friendly and our room was clean (with the exception of a slight mildew odor coming from one vent) and beds were cozy.

Business weekend in Wilmington

Enjoyed this hotel, I always like Doubletree, and this hotel didn't let me down. Beds were comfy, bathroom clean and I would definitely recommend it overall. The only thing negative I have to say is I thought that I would have parking included and it wasn't at all - you have to pay extra.

Nice, but needs some updating.

The hotel was nice, but dated. The room decor was more modern. Our room was nice, but we saw other rooms that were much nicer. The bathroom was small but beautiful. The room did not have enough wall plugs. Great coffee, but no plug near the coffee maker. We had to move it to the desk to have coffee.

Good Hotel

I was pleased with my stay. This is my third stay at that hotel.

Going Downhill

We had stayed here twice before (once each summer during the last two years) and enjoyed our stays but we were disappointed to find that the hotel had declined in cleanliness and service. We initially could not get the two-bed room we had reserved even though it was late in the afternoon and all the rooms should have been ready by then. We reluctantly took a single bed room, but then found the bathroom had not been cleaned adequately. There was a candy wrapper on the floor and hair in the tub. The final straw was picking up a filthy TV remote control. We demanded another room and was finally given what we had reserved. but then again found hair in the bathtub. They used to have a good complimentary breakfast. Not anymore. There was no one there to make omelets. The scrambled eggs were inedible. No one was taking care of the breakfast bar at all. There was a sign saying there was biscuits and gravy -- but I was told they stopped offering gravy. We had a voucher for the breakfast, but I definitely would not pay the $13.95 they wanted for such a sorry spread. This hotel needs to get its act together. There's no reason in this economy not to have an adequate staff to thoroughly clean rooms and serve a proper breakfast.

TOTALY DISCUSSTED

I was inconvenienced from the time I arrived until the time I left. First of all I arraived late in the evening and I was sent to a room that the bed was not made and the room was not clean! I had to wait in the hallway until the guest clerk braught me a new key for another room. Changed rooms, went out and came back to the room around 1am and could not get into my room!!!! Totally discussted to have to come in late to your hotel room as a female and have to walk around just to get into your room!!!!!! Other than the shower in the morning, I disliked my stay.........

Worked well for our family

Had a great time here. Kids enjoyed the pool and the open area adjacent to the pool to play tag and what not. Wish the bar were open later, and the breakfast left much to be desired. Great location for us to visit the family. We will definitely stay here again.

Little overpriced

I stayed here because I needed a room with 2 Queen beds and it was the only hotel with that. The other hotels around like the Marriott and Sheraton downtown were both cheaper but did not have the room with 2 queen beds. Also parking is $12 per day and they charged me for the night I arrived and the day I left, so $24 which is outrageous! Also, no refrigerator (it is extra to rent it per day). Other than that, the room was very clean and plenty of room. Oh the free internet was a plus, but it wasn't wireless. Ethernet cord is provided by hotel.
