The room did not really have enough space to put out luggage. The part I found most interesting is that it was entirely impossible to completely cover the bathroom window which faced another hotel, so it is quite possible the tenants of the upstairs rooms of the hotel across the parking lot had a revealing view.

Great room for the money

Discovery Resort in Cairns definitely goes along with the feel of the downtown tourist area. Only a couple blocks away from the ocean front and quite close (walking distance) from the downtown area and restaurants. The service is quite minimal but the restaurant attached to the hotel was quite pleasant and the staff was very friendly and accommodating if we needed a cab called or any other services. They would always talk to us when we returned to the room asking how we were, etc. My only complaint is the lack of air conditioning in the room. There is a fan provided but the weather in Cairns is quite a bit on the warmer side and there were a few days AC would have been nice. Otherwise, we were quite pleased with our stay.

Comfortable spacious great for vistors near to everything , no frills value for money, helpfull staff.

Nice location, good value

Nice location, 10' walk to downtown. Pool is minimal, but good for a dunk. Bathroom didn't feel terribly clean, but was ok. Good value for money. Nice people at front desk.

Base for Great Barrier Reef Adventure

We foudn this online and you never really know what to expect when you are traveling to an area that is new..... What a pleasant surprise! Not much to see from the street but they have everything someone visiting Cairns, Queensland could want: a wonderfully helpful front desk staff who helped me organise trips and excursions at no charge, hi-speed internet setup in the lobby with printing for boarding passes and such, great location - only 2 main streets from the Esplanade (the beachfront) and in a quiet and safe neighbourhood so walking at night to and from the "night life" was safe and easy. The rooms contained upgraded bedding and comfortable bed with "real" air conditioning for those of us not used to the high humidity of the tropics - and a full bathroom, fridge, coffee/tea service, full sofa, extra chair and a table in the room. The hotel is an older lanaii style with long balconies connecting each room with glass sliders for doors - can be noisy if you get a large group coming in late at night but the property is well maintained with lush tropical gardens, laundry facilities, an onsite restaurant, and a nice pool with adjacent seating. The Management is very responsive - we had one issue with young folks sitting on their balcony directly next to us and smoking - the hotel is strictly non-smoking but one phone call to the office and it was handled within minutes. Very reasonable price - clean and quiet and everything you need as a great base to go out and explore Cairns. I would definitely recommend it and stay there again.
