Trip Type: Special Event Review 1 of 4Poor Customer Service and Right next to railroad tracks
I was disappointed on several levels with this particular hotel. We just stayed at a Country Inn & Suites in Rochester, MN, and really liked it, and figured that they would be a good choice for our weekend getaway. First issue came with room being on second floor, and no elevator. I didn't realize that this would not be standard on all newer hotels, I was wrong. This is not necessarily the hotels' fault, but I was pretty disappointed. Second issue came as soon as we opened the door to our room and were almost overwhelmed with the smell of cigarette smoke. My husband is asthmatic, and I have some pretty bad allergies - smoke is not a friend of ours. We specifically asked for a non-smoking room. There were NO signs in the room or on the door stating that smoking was prohibited, so I am pretty certain that they really don't care about this issue in their hotel. Third issue was when I called the front desk to see what could be done about the room, and the odor, and could we possibly switch rooms. The front desk was incredibly rude about the situation, there was no apology, there was a giggle, and then she said well the rooms underneath us were smoking allowed, perhaps the smell was coming up through the floor. She then went on to say that there were "no other rooms like ours, so I can't move you". It was an incredibly offensive way to handle the situation. She then offered to bring up some "spray" to cover the smell. Just what an asthma sufferer wants - more chemicals to breathe in. The fourth issue is that the hotel is right across the street from the railroad tracks, the train runs every 45 minutes, and the engineers like to sound their horns multiple times day and night. So we were woken every 45 minutes by the rumble and whistle of the train. We did not enjoy a good night's sleep, and when we checked out, no one on staff enquired if we had a pleasant stay, invited us to come back again, etc. After our Rochester, MN experience, I was very disappointed. I will go out
