Coral Sea Airlie Beach

For a beach area hotel, the Coral Sea was a good choice. There were not many choices but the pool was good, the restaurant bar was good but a bit slow service and the menu wasn't large. Right in town but along the ocean, no beach area. Room was okay, air conditioning is old so a bit noisy. Large room. Bathrooms need an update.

Too busy with outside functions

The management and staff were too involved with the organisation of functions, eg. weddings, to give service to paying guests. Also the pool area was open to non residents and it was sometimes difficult to get a sunbed because they were being used by non residents. The noise of these functions went on well into the night and caused disturbance. We were not given the room we booked and had to change after the first night. They then offered us a put up settee as a second bed - we refused and finally accepted the fourth room offered. Service in the restaurant was very slow because they were catering for large weddings (3 in 4 days). We enjoyed our stay in Airlie despite the hotel - fortunately there were good places to eat outside the hotel.
