Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 3Great Escape
Pleasant experience in a great location. Nice accomodations with great staff. Helpful staff with activities and local fare. Decent buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pool was great and grounds were beautiful. Bay of Islands is a place I recommend to all to escape to in a pleasant small town in New Zealand.

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 3Nice room for the money, but...
It was a nice room for the money, however, we were a little disappointed in the welcome we received. We were told our reservations were not in their computer (although it had been over two weeks since they were made and paid for). Upon looking at our hotels.com reservation printout, the desk clerk was somewhat disturbed at the price we received the room for, the implication being that this couldn't be right because the price we paid was "less than half of their lowest published rate." After waiting in the lobby for 15 or 20 minutes while she tried to find out information for us, she finally put us in a room. She still claimed not to have ever heard of hotels.com, but was going to try to straighten things out. So we spent the first hour in our room waiting for someone to call, on pins and needles as to whether they were going to honor the rate. We were eventually told the "home office" had not gotten the reservation into the computers for whatever reason, but that everything was fine with our reservation. The only other frustration we experienced was that their wireless Internet connection was down from the time we checked in until the time we checked out. Of course, this fact did not come to our attention until after we had purchased and attempted to use a $10 telecom wireless card for one hour of Internet time. My husband (a networkd administrator himself) spent over an hour on hold with telecom trying to resolve what the problem was, and quite a bit of time in the hotel lobby attempting to connect since that's the only place the wireless could be accessed. The hotel staff seemed unconcerned about our dilemma, so we were forced to try and deal with it ourselves. In my opinion, they should have been the ones on the phone with tech support, not the hotel guest. It was extremely inconvenient since this was overseas travel for us, and we were depending on email to check on our children while we were away from home. Other than those two issues, we were sati
