Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 1 of 549Great location, condition and value
Being right at Union Square makes this a perfect spot to enjoy San Francisco. The cable car and world class restaurants are right outside the door. And if you drive to the city, the parking was the best value we found. The room was clean and well cared for. Bottom line is that we had a great stay.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 2 of 549Wonderful Stay
The Chancellor Hotel is pretty nice for the price and what a great location! Being located in union square it is close to all the regular tourist stops, so taxis and other transportation is fairly easy to afford. I was not real impressed with the hotel food but was decent. Pros: Great location, cheaper price, very clean rooms! Cons: N64 game console not avilable anymore, Non-smoking hotel, Small rooms, no AC.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 549Great Location
I always enjoy staying in an around the SF Union Square area. This was the first time I stayed at the Chancellor and was very impressed with the hotel. It is directly across the street from the Sir Francis Drake and I must say that the room was better than what I had at the Drake.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 549Superb location, good amenities
Located right off of Union Square, the hotel offered everything for a comfortable stay. There are packages that include offsite parking, which is only two blocks away with unlimited in/out access. The room itself was a good size for independent hotels in the area. A very comfortable bed with your choice of different types of pillows. My room had a flat screen TV, big bathtub, huge closet, iron, desk, organic shampoo/conditioner, even a bottle opener. You could actually open the window. If it got cold, I noticed there was a space heater in the closet. Front desk staff was slightly stuffy (think English butler), but not rude. For the price, I couldn't ask for anything better.

Trip Type: Romance Review 5 of 549Great for the Money
The location (right off Union Square) was wonderful, and our adjoining hotels were the St. Francis and others which are much more expensive. The only problem we had was that there is no cooling unit (although we were told we could request a portable device), and it was warm at night, which meant open windows, and given the proximity to Union Square that meant a noisy night. However, the hotel staff was helpful and extremely nice, and the hotel had a nice little library. Overall, very satisfied.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 549Good value for Union Square
Nothing special about this hotel. It is typical of the older hotels in the Union Square area. This hotel has not been updated like many of the other similar hotels in the area (definitely not a boutique hotel). However, it is less expensive.

Trip Type: Business Review 7 of 549Great Value and location
Older hotel but great location. Great value. Hotel in good shape for its age. room was comfortable and clean. I was on thirteenth floor and room was not too noisy considering the location. Many restaurants and bars in the area and, yes, lot's of homeless folks. Still, this is a safe neighborhood. This is certainly one of the BEST values in SF

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 8 of 549Nice hotel in great location
The hotel is at Union Sqare, close to shopping and transportation. If you drive, book the room 'with parking' and you will get valet parking with in and out privileges at a nearby parking structure for a modest fee. The service was excellent and the room clean and high quality but very small.

Trip Type: Romance Review 9 of 549Great Location, Great Value
Located half a block from Union Square and right on the Cable Car line, this hotel was perfect to see San Francisco. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and parking is available through a parking deck about 1 block away from the hotel and requires only 2 turns from the deck to get to the Golden Gate bridge to head to Sonoma and wine country.

Trip Type: Business Review 10 of 549Good location and attentive staff
I stayed at the hotel for almost a week. The staff, room, and hotel met very acceptable standards. I did have one matter during my stay that needed attention and I must say that the response to my request was immediate and exceptional, which gave me the impression that the hotel is very seriously and attentively run by competent staff who do care about the quality of service they deliver. I was very pleased with my stay and very pleased to discover how efficient and professional the staff was.

Trip Type: Romance Review 12 of 549Great Hotel!!!
The rooms were very clean and comfortable. I also appreciated that the shampoo and lotion were organic and that there was a recycle basket in the room. The staff were very helpful. We would definitely stay there again. Great price for a great hotel!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 13 of 549Very Nice Smaller Hotel
The Chancellor Hotel is charming with very friendly staff for the most part. Excellent pricing which includes parking just around the corner. Room service is pricey. Disappointed that the front desk personnel had no knowledge of local theaters. Also, the gift shop attendant was less than helpful when requesting a newspaper.

Trip Type: Family Review 15 of 549Great location and value
Chancellor is a wonderful small hotel conveniently located in the heart of San Francisco-Union Square. If you drive to San Francisco, be sure to take advantage of the parking option which allows "in and out" privileges. Service is excellent although room was slow/late to be "made-up" the next day. After contacting front desk this was quickly remedied. Disappointed that we could not eat breakfast in restaurant during on our first day. It was reserved for a convention/conference group staying at hotel. However, the full menu was available in bar area and our breatfasts tasted great. We fully enjoyed the dining room on the following day of our 2-day stay. Typical of older hotels, rooms are a bit smaller than new hotels. However, the room was immaculate. And, we do not spend much time in our room anyway. This hotel is an outstanding choice - close to everything including the cable car stop.
