More like a time share place, ideal for families with children old enough to have there own room. Home away from home with a kitchen, living room, seperate bedrooms.

My fiance and I, along with another couple, stayed at Castle Makahuena for 4 days on vacation. I've stayed in condos in Poipu before but this was by far my favorite. One of the key reasons was that the kitchen had everything we needed to cook actual meals. We had all essential silverware, cooking utensils, pots, pans... even cookie sheets and a blender. Also, our condo had amazing views in every room and even though it was hot outside, the breeze kept us cool all day. I would stay here again in a second.

Location. Overlooking the blue water of the Pacific on the southernmost tip of Kauai, Castle Makahuena, a Condominium Resort at Poipu occupies a prime location atop a rock bluff in Poipu, Hawaii. Poipu Beach, considered one of the best in the nation, is just one mile west of the resort. Dense rainforests, impenetrable valleys, majestic peaks and perfect golden beaches make Kauai one of Hawaii's most desirable destinations. Dominated by a sense of independence, the island has never fallen victim to the tourist culture that afflicts Oahu and the Big Island. The sights, smells and sounds of the island promote relaxation, with shimmering waterfalls, the scent of ginger and morning birdsong all pleasing the senses.

Hotel Features. Given its location, the resort enjoys both sunrise and sunset and provides a great location for whale watching from wooden benches at the edge of the bluff. The outdoor pool and jetted tub are surrounded by a sundeck with barbeque grills for guest use. There are safe-deposit boxes at the front desk, and the staff can arrange golf outings, sightseeing trips, luaus and other activities. Child care can be arranged and complimentary wireless Internet access is offered.

Guestrooms. The condominium-style units are located in two- and three-story buildings with no elevators. Most accommodations feature tiled floors and all come with dial-up Internet access, VCRs and in-room safes. Kitchens feature refrigerators, cooktops and microwave ovens.

Expert Tip. Wailua Falls, an 18-mile drive from the property, drop 80-feet into the Wailua River and were featured on the opening credits of the television show Fantasy Island.

Housekeeping services are provided for stays of 7 days or longer.
