Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 1 of 162what you would expect from a hostle.
It was exactly what you would expect from a hostle. I got a single room, it was fairly clean, the bathroom was very clean. My complaints would be that it says free wi-fi which is one of the reasons I chose this one, because I need to watch tv to fall a sleep. When I got into my room I didnt get internet. When I went downstairs to talk to someone, they said that the only place that got internet was in one room in the building. Also, the soda machines were hardly stocked and none had water, and the hotel provided no cups, so basically there was no way to get water. Other then that it was decent for the price, and location. Even though I realized since that if I travel 20 minutes outside of the city I can get a nice hotel in jersey with all the anemities for a cheaper price.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 162Was okay.
The hostel itself was nice, despite the uneven steps that I could never get used to. I would have liked to know before going all the way to 94th street that I would instead be staying at the Sky hostel on 83rd street. I also didn't really appreciate that they decided to change the rooms around before checkout. I had (luckily) just finished getting dressed when some random guys came in to take a bed out of the room. It also would have been nice if the cleaning ladies had waited until I was actually gone to strip my bed. I was barely done packing and still had almost an hour to go. I felt very rushed and uncomfortable about that. Check-out is at 11am and check-in at 3pm, so I feel that they could have done all of this at any time between those times, and not starting at 9~10am. Despite all of that, the stay was nice, and the neighbourhood was great. Very convenient to lots of restaurants, and the walk to the subway wasn't too bad. Things were nice and clean, and the bedding wasn't uncomfortable. I really enjoyed the free wi-fi, but more than two working outlets in the room would have been nice (two were broken). In all, I'd stay again, now that I know what to expect, and I'd definitely recommend the place to others.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 162Basic but clean and comfortable
This hostel is pretty basic, my room came with a comfortable bed, a TV, and a small closet. The shared bathroom in hall was extremely clean. The location is great, a couple minutes walk to the subway station (on Broadway and 94th street), with lots of restaurants and stores in the general area. Felt completely safe walking around alone at night. Be sure to bring your own towel.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 162My stay at the Candy Hostel
Overall: This was my first hostel experience - and I was very pleasantly surprised - but I will definitely be coming back to the Candy Hostel the next time I have to be in NYC. Travelling alone for an audition in NY - so I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I thought I'd give this a try, and I'm so glad I did. The Wi-Fi is free - it only works in the lobby, but quite frankly, being by myself in NYC - it was very nice to sit in a roomful of college-aged European backpackers as we all had our laptops out and were working away or chatting or IM-ing. It felt like a college dorm...very welcoming. Location: Safe, secure-feeling area - very convenient to subway! Upper West Side - very nice neighborhood ... just a short walk to Central Park and just two blocks West and two blocks North to Subway. Staff: very friendly and helpful. The first room I was given had a non-functioning light...they instantly gave me a new room. Room: sparse but clean...I was very pleasantly surprised that it was a private room. Toilet/Shower: could be cleaner...but I'm used to the health club, so it was like using the health club bathroom facilities. Use common sense in a shared area...use flip-flops in the shower and bring your own towel.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 7 of 162It's no Four Seasons
Understandably, you don't expect much from a hostel. But my single room felt like a jail cell. No decor, no towels, no alarm clock, no night stand. It was literally just an uncomfortable bed with sheets that were so worn you could see right through them, a window and a mirror. The walls were scuffed and dirty and in dire need of a paint job, and the floors I would not recommend walking on in bare feet. I wouldn't not recommend this hotel, as the staff was friendly enough and it was in a safe neighborhood, but I would suggest you go in with very low expectations.

Trip Type: Business Review 8 of 162PLACE TO SLEEP AT NIGHT, DONT EXPECT WHITLES AND BELLS
The hotel was ok, think the price is too much. The heater didnt work, Room only has two or three plugs, the TV plugs in the one near the ac unit, so u have to decide bettween comfort or luxury. there was a lot of kids running around. bathrooms were decent in the morning after they cleaned them. its nothing fancy, just someplace to rest your head at night.

Trip Type: Romance Review 11 of 162Great for the money
Excellent location. Clean. They have room service to clear up the bed, change the towels and throw away the trash. It is a excellent HOSTEL to persons that want to know NY without spend a lot of money.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 12 of 162Enough for sleeping
The hotel is a little bit far from Midtown, but the subway station is close, so it's easy to go along all Manhattan (96th street stop; subway lines 1,2,3 red, and then you can connect to other lines). Internet is available only in the lobby. Shared bathroon is ok, they are clean. One thing I didn't like was that my room smelled as cigarete!!! Overall, to a budget and just for sleeping, it is a good place to stay!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 15 of 162Never Again
The location of the hostel was nice but the inside was smelly and dirty. The staff is horrible and they have a policy in which if you do not show before midnight, they give your room to someonelse. this policy of course was written in very fine print. we decided to save money by going with a hostel and that was a bad idea. i showed up after midnight so of course my room was gone but im glad i didnt stay there after looking at the condition of their "lobby". their ad sounds too good to be true for the price and it was. horrible horrible horrible
