Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 15The quirky member of the Camino Real family
This hotel, located in a former convent, gives a very good first impression. However, the place has idiosyncracies that impact guest comfort. Two problems in the bathroom are noteworthy. Firstly, there was no fan or ventilation of any kind, so it got pretty steamy. Secondly, it was very difficult to get in and out of the shower. I still have the bruises to show for it. Getting to the room was also problematic since the outdoor walkways were poorly covered and had no drainage, so after each rain, there were unavoidable puddles along the route to the rooms. In the bedroom, there was one small glass shelf between the double beds which contained the telephone, an alarm clock, and a badly wired light--not much room for anything else. These are all small issues, but the combined effect is not what I generally expect to find in a Camino Real hotel.

Trip Type: Family Review 2 of 15Lovely Historic Hotel
One could not ask to be in a more convenient location. The hotel is just two and a half blocks from the Zócalo, the center of Puebla life. Being a bit away from the Zócalo is a plus, for the hotel is very tranquil. Since it is an ex-convent from the 16th century, it is a gem of Spanish colonial architecture, replete with large patios bordered with arches, remains of original wall paintings, and tall ceilings. The rooms are a bit small, but not overly so. Guests have to realize that they used to be the cells of the nuns, and to enlarge everything would be to change the historical quality of the building. Beds were very comfortable, and our room had amenities such as cable TV, a security box, and mini-bar/refrigerator. However a few things such as tables, TV stands, and bathroom plumbing need to be upgraded, as they are showing wear. Reception services and the restaurant were excellent. All staff are exceptionally personable and ready to help the guests. In spite of a few minor inconveniences, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Camino Real. It has a great location, is reasonably priced, and offers insight into the culture and history of Mexico through its authentic colonial atmosphere..

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 3 of 15Hotel that takes you to the past
If you want to experience the old Mexico this is the hotel you want to stay, rooms are somehow rustic but that is the point, beautiful hotel (ex-covent), location is great, a couple of blocks from the Zocalo, friendly staff. There is no internet access in the rooms, beds are ok (could be better).

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 4 of 15History breathes around you
Splendid property in an historic building in walking distance from the Zocalo. Beautifully maintained. Only gripe - which I have seen several times on a Mexico trip - is that the rooms all face an inner courtyard with no outside windows. It can get a little noisy if you keep the window open during the night. If you are happy to sleep in AC air, less of a problem.

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 15Great hotel
This was an excellent vacation hotel. It's in a beautiful setting, the room was well maintained (and lovely!) and the location is very close to all the major sights. The first room they gave us had a strong smell of smoke, but they immediately transferred us to a much better room. The hotel staff is professional and efficient. All in all, a stellar experience.

Trip Type: Family Review 7 of 15Great hotel
This hotel is conveniently located in Puebla, Mexico. It is unique and beautiful. The staff was helpful and friendly, getting us cabs and providing wake-up calls right on time. On the end of our trip, during our second stay there, the hotel lost our reservation somehow but we had our hotels.com confirmation and they had two rooms available for us. One was the Presidential Suite and one the Junior Suite, the formal chapel of this converted convent. The rooms were huge and lovely and would have cost 10X what we paid so we would never have stayed in them. It was a treat! I definitely recommend this hotel.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 8 of 15Excellent hotel !!!
This was a total surprise! It was a wonderful hotel, helpful staff, great bargain. The room was huge, spacious and quiet. Being in the center of the historic district, we could walk everywhere that we wanted. When we needed taxi service, there was always one ready and avialable. We couldnt have asked for a better place to stay in Puebla or a better deal on the room from Hotels.com. Thanks so much!

Lovely landmark from Colonial Mexico with the quality and prestige of the Camino Real Hotels. Excellent staff. Good food. Kind of "boring" for kids used to spend time in the swimming pool.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 15 of 15Great Room for the money
This hotel is located in the heart of the city. Within walking distance to all the major attractions. The building is a perfect example of colinial architecture. The rooms are very simple but charming. Most rooms have great views of the cities rooftops and church towers. The only downside is the bed was as hard as rock.
