Great Getaway

Its a great hotel that is right next to the lake. You can walk to a nearby beach and enjoy the sunset without having to drive. The hotel also has a Jacuzzi that is empty during the low season. We had the pleasure of using the Jacuzzi just to ourselves. Note that the pool is not open during the winter.

Romantic Getaway

The resort was very quiet, very comfortable, and wonderful views. There are only a few things the resort needs to improve on. It would have been great if there was room service. They need to have balconies so you can sit and enjoy the views from your room. The service from the bar and the restruant is a little less than diserable. However, the spa is top notch! The best in town. Wonderful service and so relaxing. I will stay there again but I will not be eating or drinking there.

Excellent class hotel.

The Cal Neva was a most enjoyable stay and we stayed an extra day. We thought the Cal Neva had the added attraction of it's long history in the Tahoe area. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly. We would stay there again.

A bit tired but a great location

You can definitely tell that Calneva has had better days behind it but we loved it nevertheless. We just spent a weekend there and the room was clean, with new tiles and carpet, quiet and quite conveniently located on the ground floor. The location is awesome. I took my 2 and 4 years old to nearby Speedboat Beach, a 5 minutes walk, and they loved every minute of it. The white sand and round rocks are perfect for kids. The secluded bay like location blocks the wind and makes it great for swimming. The casino floor looked anything but happening but overall, the Calneva is a good value and I would definitely go back.

Too Bad

What a great spot this must HAVE been. Reviews talk about the good things, not many. The tour wasn't available, DSL/wifi was down for 3DAYS, they couldn't figure out the problem. Rugs in the hotel are stained and dirty. The place is pretty ghetto. The clerk did upgrade our room, I couldn't imagine what a roon on the first (basement)floor would have been. We didn't have any interaction with anybody in the hotel except the front desk, they were nice.

Needs Improvements

CalNeva is in need of restoration/remodeling services. Not only that, but the power went out for over three hours in the later part of the evening and we were not being told what was going on, even after several fire trucks pulled up. We were simply instructed to either exit the building or go back to our room. We weren't sure if we should evacuate, but again, they would not tell us what was going on.

Needs a makeover

We were disappointed as we had never been to the Northshore of Tahoe before. The hotel needs remodeling. It was probably a grand old place in its time. Much of the furniture was worn out. I noticed that several pieces of lobby furniture even had holes and was dirty. The first room they put us in had the nosiest fan motor in the air conditioning unit I had ever heard. It sounded like a jet engine taking off. The staff was very accomodating in giving us a different room. The second room however was just a few doors past the elevators and even though there are double doors between the elevators and the room corridor you could hear every conversation going on. The night we were there, the elevator apparently got stuck between floors and we could hear the whole conversation between hotel personnel and repair personnel. This was at approximately 11pm and lasted aound an hour.

Very comfortable.

Very comfortable. Reasonably priced. Needs some renovating, but that's in process. Great surroundings.

Needs Improvement

Room decor way outdated... facilities are in need of repair... tv was very small and old and had to program the remote myself. Would only recommend if you're just using it for a place to crash from a long day out on the lake.
