Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 1 of 4Decent Hotel
The hotel is within walking distance from Kyoto station and has free wireless internet. The bathroom and shower are shared. My room was across from the bathroom and the walls are very thin, so I heard people throughout the morning and night. The room was cheap though, and allowed me to stay in Kyoto for a short time in order to explore the numerous temples and shrines. I would probably stay here again, but only for a short time.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 4Great affordable Hotel
Its about a 10 min walk from Kyoto Train station. This is like a Bed & Breakfast (except the breakfast part)!! You can come in & leave anytime you want per your sightseeing schedule

Trip Type: Family Review 3 of 4Clean, convenient and good for the money
Upside: The BJ Family House gave us the opportunity to sleep in a tatami without having to share the restroom in a Ryokan. It's a 20min walk from the Kyoto Station and a 7min walk to the Subway line. The area is safe. Everything inside is extremely clean. The kitchen is available for use. The staff is friendly. Downside: Some external noise could wake you up at night, only if you're not tired enough from walking around the city all day long!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 4A great "Base of Operations"
The BJ family house is basically a place to sleep. It isn't really a hotel, nor is it a hostel. It's more like someone letting you sublet their bedroom for however many days you'll be there. You get an authentic Japanese experience, sleeping in a 5 mat tatami room on futons. The staff, although they spoke very little English, were very friendly. I would recommend this place for someone who only needs a place to sleep and leave their stuff. The location is a short walk from Kyoto station where you can access all of south-west Japan relatively easy. If you're just staying in Kyoto it has a bus stop right out the door, and a short walk to the subway line. All and all it was a nice comfortable stay and a great price. I may stay there again however, If you can afford it you may want to stay somewhere with more "creature comforts."
