Our experience was overshadowed by employees who showed no interest in "good business" tactics. At 3:00am, we were awakened by a fire alarm which sounded like a car security alarm, so most people did not get up right away. When we all did congregate finally in the lobby, after waiting for about five minutes, a young man came out to explain that the alarm went off by mistake, and he didn't understand why because the entire system had just been tested and checked two weeks earlier. Then he announced that the entire system was totally blocked. (We never understood exactly what that meant). So, everyone went back upstairs. Fifteen minutes later, the alarm went off again. (The system is blocked?) This time, several people were heard dragging their suitcases downstairs and seen leaving the hotel. Those of us who congregated again in the lobby were once again told that the system was going off and they did not know why. Back to bed, but with one eye half open this time waiting for the third alarm. There was not a third one, now was there a good night's sleep. The next morning, at check out, my husband wanted to express concern about there never having been an apology for inconvenience, any explanation as to what happened, etc. The girl at the desk said, "It is not our fault." That sounds a little harsh, as she rings up a bill, adding to it a charge for the breakfast and a charge for parking(!! 9 euros/night!!!). I mentioned that a small compensation, such as offering a reduction in the total charge or subtracting one night's parking would be "good business." Her response was "absolutely not." Then, she told us that some man in the hotel next door had smoked a cigar which set off the alarm in our hotel. The cigar was found and the man's fingers smelled of cigar smoke, but he denied that he was the cause. I then said, "but it is good business to acknowledge that your guests have been greatly inconvenienced and a small token of acknowledgment would be a minimal gesture for go
