Baer House Inn

The Baer House Inn is located in historic Vicksburg, Miss., two blocks from Main Street and five blocks from the Mississippi River. The inn is approximately one-half mile from museums, restaurants, art galleries and antique shopping. The Vicksburg National Military Park and the U.S.S. Cairo Museum are less than two miles away.

This Eastlake Victorian was built in 1870 by a prominent local businessman. Complimentary southern breakfasts are served daily in the inn's ballroom, and a social hour with wine and snacks is held each evening. Complimentary beverages are available in the guest kitchenette. Handcrafted American chestnut and black walnut woodwork is showcased in the entrance to the house. On each side of the entry are two formal parlors. One of the original cisterns under the house can be seen through a Plexiglas portal in the kitchen floor, and a two-story privy is located outside. A billiards room is provided.

The Baer House Inn offers six guestrooms, most featuring private bathrooms. All guest accommodations include cable television. Heartwood pine or oak floors are featured throughout the units. The Tara Room is warm and earthy, and the two-room Melanie Suite is furnished with Chinese antiques and art. The Rhett room offers an antique canopy bed. The Pineapple Room is decorated with cheerful colors and island furnishings. The Pineapple Room and Rhett Room offer views of historic Vicksburg and the Mississippi River. Select rooms include fireplaces and antique furnishings.
