    We just returned from our visit to Panama and decided we wanted to spend (3) days in the rain forest and remainder of our days in the city. The Avalon is a resort and an older hotel outside of the city. Its a long ride from the airport and not in the best neighborhood. The only place to eat is on site. We did go into the nearby neighborhood by taxi but didn't feel real safe. The grounds are not maintained that well and the pool materials were cracking. Rooms are large and very nice and clean enough. We enjoyed seeing the rain forest and the hotel arranged a great taxi driver named Enrique who was a very safe driver and excellent tour guide took us on two tours on two different days. We really missed him after we went to the City. The service was great and the breakfast was a full buffet style not continental style like we were expecting. That was great. Overall all the experience was fantastic and the staff very helpful. Too bad they don't keep the resort up better

    This room far exceeded my expectations. I read many reviews before deciding on this hotel to stay in Panama City. It is very clean, very comfortable and very quiet. We had a room for 3 people that had 2 queen sized beds that were extremely comfortable. The room was very large, clean, and quiet. The only complaint I have is that the hotel is out in the middle of no where. Where all the nightlife and restaurants are is in downtown Panama City and that is a 15 minute taxi ride away. Split between 3 people it is fairly cheap but just keep in mind that it is a bit farther away. The taxi ride to Tocumen airport is 20-30 minutes away and costs about $35. Another thing to keep in mind is that the hotel is actually a resort- they make you wear a wristband when you stay there. They also include a breakfast buffet, gym, and pool area but the pool is open at odd hours. The shower and bathroom are nice and big and clean.
