Home of the $6 Bagel

Very nice hotel. Big, clean rooms. However, since there is no commercial district within walking distance, they gouge their guests at every opportunity. First morning, bagel and coffee cost me $10.50! Last meal I ate there. It's a shame, because it is a lovely hotel. Too bad they soak their guests unnecessarily.

Like staying in a museum. Very elegant old school place. Like stepping back in time. Rooms are enormous.

could have been better

I've stayed at a few of the Waldorf-Astoria properties and was excited to stay at here and experience "The Biltmore" reputation. When we checked into our room we found a layer of dust on everything, down to the food in the mini bar, cigarette buds on our balcony and placed next to the service elevators. When I called down to change rooms the gentleman while very polite asked if he could locate another room and call back in "no more than 5 min." 35 minutes went by before a call back and after all the time he we moved 1 floor. A bellman was going to meet us at our new room with keys after waiting at the new room for 10 minutes I finally went to the desk and retrieved my new keys at this point we've wasted almost an hour just to put our bags down and relax. The service from the lovely young lady at the pool was great and made up for the mess at check in.However, the pool was out of towels and we were told to wait 30 minutes for new ones, yet not 30 yards away at another entrance to the pool there were stacks of towels that none of the staff offered any of the guests. I should add this was during off season the resort was very quiet.

Affordable Luxury

My upgraded resort room was lovely and footsteps away from the Catalina Pool. I took full advantage of the $28 resort fee by swimming laps and following the tiled designs on the pool bottom to the fountain at the shallow end. The rooms are nicely appointed and furnished.

Excellent hotel

But to be considered a trul luxury location they will need to face up to a major expenditure to upgrade the bathrooms and bedroom furniture.

Customer Service Should Matter More

My son was to report for duty for deployment to Iraq the following day @ so we requested a wake up call @ 5:30 AM and odered him room service @ 6:00 AM so that he could have a nice breakfast before leaving but we were awakened by the arrival of the breakfast which was ice cold and not eatable & the reason given was the distance from the kitchen to our room. After taking my son to armory. I recieved reciept for $65.00 for a late night cabana purchase that someone had charged to my room# I then recieved a wake up call @ 7:30 AM I eventually did get an apology from the opertor on the phone and the $65.00 taken off of my bill but my reason for staying at a nicer hotel on my son's last day with his family was lost.

Needs Improvement

This hotel is old and tired Scottsdale has many other better options. I paid extra for a 500-600sf room and was first put in a room about 300sf. I was moved after a phone call.

Online Pricing is Misleading

The online price looks good but resort fee and parking fee almost double all-in price.
