Great location! Have stayed here multiple times and it has always been a wonderful experience. The Pump Room restaurant is fabulous.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 3 of 623Some issues we had....
We had some issues with the service at this hotel. The room was fine and clean and no issues with the room itself. But I wanted to get in contact with the consierge desk to arrange for a taxi in the morning. I called several times with no answer and finally left a message and asked them to call me regarding getting a taxi for the morning. no one returned my call. Then, the hotel advised that room service started at 5:30am. We called and called and called with no answer. We finally called the front desk at 5:45am to ask what was going on since we had to be on the road by 6:20am and they said they were still getting organized to open up. I'm sorry, but if you advertise that room service starts at 5:30am, please don't be telling me at 5:45am that you're not ready to take orders. Then, we go outside and give our ticket to the valet parking to get our car and they lose the ticket and after standing outside for 15 mins, we ask them where our car is and they look at us with a blank stare and had no idea where our car ticket went. They had to hunt our car down via license plate..... Service wasn't good for us.

Trip Type: Romance Review 5 of 623Historic Hotel but needs maintained
Overall a great place to stay. The Pump Room was lovely. However, our room was in some disrepair. The ceiling needed paint and the bathroom could use more counterspace. Very clean and comfortable. Loved our housekeeper!

Trip Type: Special Event Review 6 of 623Room issues
Our room was right next to the elevator which had more noise than other rooms. Also i booked a king deluxe and they gave us a queen their excuse was that it was not guaranteed i guess it was in the small print. I was not happy but did not complain. Room service was good. Hotel was overall okay nice area.

Trip Type: Romance Review 8 of 623Great Hotel
Was very satisfied with this hotel. Room was clean, and roomy. Even with all my wifes stuff we had plenty of room. Very good restaurant down stairs. Good location. If we come back we would stay here again.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 9 of 623great room for the money
very convenient to downtown chicago in a charming neighborhood, felt very safe walking at night. bathroom was inconvenient in that there was not a counter to set makeup kit while getting ready, towel racks across bathroom from shower and no towel rack next to sink. We would stay again as our overall rating exceeded the few inconveniences in the bathroom.

About a block off of State street. Easy access to main attractions. Staff was very courteous. Old, but very nice.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 12 of 623Great Staff, Good Location
While this hotel is not in the middle of downtown, it is only a short walk to the subway and a short ride to downtown. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were on the smaller side, but we did not spend much time there so it wasn't an issue for us. The beds were very comfortable and overall the hotel is well kept considering it's age.

Trip Type: Business Review 14 of 623Charming neighborhood hotel
This is an old hotel with lots of history. Very charming. One block from the lake and within two blocks of great restaurants and shopping. I stayed here 15 years ago and it's very much the same. They still have the Author's suite where Ernest Hemingway stayed often. The room is filled with books signed by the authors. Of course it is home to the fabulous Pump Room restuarant; the hall is line with photographs of the stars who have dined here over the years. Keep in mind it is old but they do there very best to keep it clean. Highly recommended!

Trip Type: Family Review 15 of 623Historic hotel in very pleasant area of Chicago
We enjoy quality older hotels and the Ambassador East met all our expectations with a pleasant and helpful staff. The location, although a little north of the center of town, was away from the hustle and bustle and in a very pleasant area just two blocks from the lake.
