Trip Type: Family Review 17 of 54cool place
Went with another family and our kids. I wouldn't classify it as a family place, mostly young single people there, but we had a great time there and our kids loved all the dogs staying there. Just make sure you don't have a room by the big pool since they have big, DJayed parties there.(Unless that's your scene.) It was like a night club there. It didn't bother us, because our rooms were near the smaller pool but if we had a room near that area it would have been a problem for us-no way to put kids to sleep with the loud music.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 18 of 54A very fun alternative boutique appeal and 24-hour pool with an excellent sweet tea...
however, wasn't worth the price paid... not much to do other than the pool. food was mediocre. the dj they claimed to have on Sundays you would never even know he was there. i don't think i'd stay there again even if they gave me a free room to return...

Trip Type: Special Event Review 20 of 54unfulfilled expectations
I booked my room in early August. Based on the reviews and the rate I was expecting a lot more. The Ace Hotel is a former Howard Johnsons that has been renovated but still looks like a Hojos. The rooms are decent but are definitely not worth the price, especially when compared to other premium hotels I could have stayed at for a lot less money. After a long day, I was about to go to bed when I pulled the bedspread and comforter back to reveal linens that had not been changed. I called to ask for clean ones and waited 20 minutes before finally walking to the office to find out what the delay was. Normally I would not get upset about waiting for maid service, but at 10:30 at night, I was expecting it would be a priority to get a guest clean sheets so they could get to sleep. The location and grounds are below par. Also, the signage is difficult to see when driving by.

Trip Type: Business Review 22 of 54New Ace Hotel and Swim Club Rocks
My girlfriend and I were in Palm Springs for business on a Friday in July and decided to just stay over. Booked a room at the Ace Hotel and Swim Club, a former Howard Johnson's that was recently renovated by new owners. The rate was among the cheapest we found online but you'd never know it from the place -- it was amazing! The decor is very retro modern with lots of '50s kitsch but really well done -- the attention to detail in throughout the place was fantastic. The pool is huge and features an outdoor bar. There's a funky bar inside the hotel that drew a cool crowd of locals and guests. There are all sorts of neat little touches -- everything from free cruiser bikes you can use to ride into town (maybe a mile or so down the road) to a few acoustic guitars in the lobby you can pick up and play. The staff was super friendly and the whole place just gives off a really social vibe. This upcoming winter is their first in business so can't say yet what it will be like in peak season, but we're definitely going to go back and see. Having never been to Palm Springs before and picking this solely based on an internet search and other people's reviews, we figured it was 50/50 that they were legit. but we definitely hit the jackpot. Highly recommended.

Trip Type: Romance Review 24 of 54READ before booking! Important!!!
CONS: -Huge, visible stain on our bedspread when we arrived. -No carpeting on floors, just cement, which takes away from overall comfort. -No coffee maker in room. -We had one of the bigger and better rooms in hotel (king w/patio) yet there was NO TUB in our bathroom. Just shower. -Small shower/toilet area. -Room service was the worst I ever experienced (stay in hotels A LOT). Ordered at 9:30p on Sunday night, hardly a busy hour. Our food arrived 1 hr 15 min later. Got one main dish wrong. Ordered choc brownie a la mode and got some type of coconut cake a la mode. Dessert was ice cream soup because it had melted by the time it got to us. Forgot our diet coke and said they'll come right back. Forgot our pineapple juice and made a third trip back. -VERY alternative-lifestyle friendly so if you are not comfortable with that, you should not stay here. We saw many gay male and female couples making out in the pool. Also lots of heavily tattooed punk and gangsta rap type folks. -Room two doors down from us had about ten guys staying there, partying hard and loud. -There was an incident during our stay & a few cop cars and canine units came to remove a drunk man from pool area. -First drink order took about half hour to arrive--waitress took our order, came back in 15 min to ask us to verify our order (she forgot whose belonged to whom), which we did. Then 30 min later we saw her across the pool with our order, asking each person if it was THEIR order. We had to flag her down. Second drink order took 20 min to arrive. Check took 15 min to arrive. Really makes you wonder. -Not sure what the info stated for TV was, but it was the smallest LCD we've ever seen in a hotel (approx 28 in). -The decor & amenities, which strived to come off as "simple, retro chic", really just came off as "cheap". Think the Standard hotel/car garage/old diner setting. PROS: -Very courteous and polite staff at all times. -Got our meal COMP'd because it took so long to arrive. (Supposed policy is th

Trip Type: Romance Review 26 of 54"Excellent Desert Oasis"
The Ace hotel and Swim Club is a great example of a re-imagined hotel, formerly a motel, now a sprawling desert hipster resort. The vive is surprisingly friendly, the space is clean, fresh, and very in keeping with the desert vibe. The rooms are on the small side, but wonderfully laid out with a beautiful cool luxe decor, favoring simple textures like canvas and stone, with an overall feel of "camping desert oasis" meets "design within reach." The clientele is varied from tattooed hipster to gay couples to young families, and everyone seems to be there to get along and have a good time. I wouldn't recommend this resort for people who are looking for a typical green sprawling resort, nor for someone who is looking for total quiet seclusion, the vibe leans towards social. The little touches like the record players in the rooms and free bike lending add to the relaxed fun feel, and restaurant is very good and relaxed with delicious food and nice servers. he pools are salt water and are pristine and truly fun to swim in, the fact that they are open 24 hours makes perfect sense in the hot desert, where it's lovely taking a midnight dip. I would steer towards requesting a quieter room if your intent is not to be part of a pool party! Overall, I was extremely pleased with my stay at the The Ace hotel and Swim Club

Trip Type: With Friends Review 27 of 54Best hotel in Palm Springs!!
I don't even know where to start! I needed a quick getaway and really wanted to stay at the Viceroy, but it was all sold out. For the same price as a standard room at the Viceroy I got a full on suite at Ace! It even had a japanese style bath where the shower and bath are in one room but separate! Great surprise! The room was huge and decorated so nicely! Pool staff was so great. Definitely crowded, but good for kids and even couples. Food was absolutely delicious. The owner of the restaurant even did a broadway number for the guests. It was great! I even got a deal where I received 20% off of all hotel expenses. So worth it! This is a must stay. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Palm Springs after Ace.

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 28 of 54Destination Hotel.
Palm Springs has golf, restaurants, and a tramway...but if you don't want to do any of that there is no reason to venture away from this hotel. The pool is one of the best reasons to stay here but there are additional reasons. The room was clean with a contemporary design and filled with perfect creature comforts like high quality soap and the best stocked mini bar I've seen. The coffee shop is really a restaurant that serves excellent food and strives to use local ingredients. The knowledgeable staff is truly exceptional and really showed a natural desire to make sure we had a great time but it wasn't canned or forced. While sitting at the pool drinking cocktails you'd be a fool not to order either the truffle oil popcorn or the chips and salsa. We will definitely be heading back.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 29 of 54Great hip environment!
I absolutely loved my stay at this great property! The service was excellent, the surroundings were beautiful and the environment around the pool was hip, friendly and very accepting. I would definitely recommend it to all of my friends. My only recommendation would be that the hotel have some type of darker shade over the window. The white canvas window cover was in keeping with the decor, however, when the sun came up at 5:30am in the desert, the room was flooded with light and it made it difficult to sleep beyond 6am.
