I was just looking for a decent hotel by the airport, and the Van der Valk turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The restaurant was open early and late. The staff were friendly and helpful. The highlight for me was the steamroom and sauna - a pleasant surprise.

It was not a hotel. it reminded me a processing facility. The staff of the huge facility was categorical and not accommodating, if you where promised a two queen room, don’t even dream - it will be 2 x two tween at best! No complaints taken. No attempts to mitigate... Once you are issued a key you are supposed to get lost in your little cell and not […] bother the staff, that reminded me officers of the correctional facility (I am a former judge). What they called rooms stunk and where barely maintained up to a minimum sanitary requirements (not sure they met them). we travelled in a company of four - my wife and two children and even after a four hour flight, we could not stay there, packed our stuff and left looking for another hotel. Hotel was much further from the Airport than advertised. It was a 10-15 min shuttle ride. Also the free shuttle service does not start until 6 am. If you have an early flight you must pay 20 Euros for the ride to the airport. Also early check in cost me an additional 15 Euros, which I found to be quite expensive for 4 hours. Main reason I picked Hotel Schiphol A4 is that the next day I had an early flight. Second very good value great rooms, for 15 euros breakfast buffet. Free Wifi, free schuttlebus from/to Schiphol trainstation/Airport (6:00 - 23:00). Across the Hotel you have restaurants and fastfood places. Good hotel. Good location for air travelers. Staff extremely polite and helpful. Clean room. Charge for one night extremely high. We later found out that there was a conference in the area. If this hotel is advertised as a convenient location for air travelers, they should keep that in mind and not triple room rates for non-conference guests.

The hotel was beautiful. The service could be better. We had to wait a half hour before somebody took our order at the dinner table. It took another half hour to deliver our meal. Otherwise, very clean and pleasant atmosphere. The busdriver of the shuttle bus was excellent. He helped everybody with their luggage.

The Hotel is as nice as Holland in general; excellent breakfast, excellent dinner, friendly staff. I was very pleased to find a Christian Bible in the room. The only snag was the elevator did not work and I had to drag my luggage to the first floor.

Having arrived from an international flight, I arrived the hotel at approximately 10am and was told I had to pay an additional 15Euros to check in early. My room was on the 8th floor and the elevator on the 8th floor wasn't working so I had to get off on the 7th floor and carry my luggage up a flight of stairs. The hallway on the 8th floor was undergoing […] construction so there construction equipment and debris everywhere. But the most disappointing was the heat in the room. I was told the air conditioning had not been turned on for the summer season yet so there was no air circulation in the room and it was a hot day with my window facing west with the sun bearing down through the room. When I asked to change rooms, I was told the hotel was booked and there were no other rooms. I was also told the air con wasn't working, under repair. I was not able to even sit in my room even though I paid 15Euros for an early check in. I was not able to sleep comfortably through the night because it was so hot. Wouldn't stay here again! I arrived at about 10:00 PM on the shuttle bus from the train station. I am elderly, and recently had surgery, so am slow and need assistance. The desk clerk was very friendly, but told me there was no bellman. I would have to find my own way to my room, which was at the end of the hall in the 800 series. I had to take 2 elevators, and go up an inclne. […] As I had all my luggage, it was quite challenging, and took more than 15 minutes. I got to the room to find that the telephone did not connect me with the desk (to request help for the AM), so I had to do it all over again early in the morning to make the 6 AM bus to Schiphol. What a tough way to start a long journey! The hotel is not as close to the terminal as advertised. I wish I had known that I would have the difficulty, and I would have asked for a special disability room. I would not recommend that any of my friends from Florida stay there before a flight. The room itself was lovely, but the inconvenience of the route to the sleeping areas, and the two elevators, makes it a poor choice for a retiree. Read more

Flying from Sweden back to San Francisco...I was required to stay overnight in Amersterdam. I looked for a hotel near the airport that had a convenient shuttle service and restaurant. altho9ugh married I was traveling alone and security was an issue for me as well as convenience. The hotel was used as a last night stop before an early flight. The room for the 4 of us was large and clean. Travelled with an overnight layover before a transatlantic flight. Accompanied by husband and two kids (7, 10). Quad room was generously sized and beds were comfortable. We took the shuttle back to the airport to catch the train into Amsterdam, wandered around and caught a train/shuttle back to the hotel. That part wasn't quite as convenient as staying […] in town, but the ease of luggage transfer and the short shuttle ride for the AM flight was appreciated. Shuttles run every 40 minutes and it's about a 10 min ride to Schipol. Room was v quiet despite location on freeway and so near flight path. Large bathtub and separate shower, lots of built in storage. Overall a comfortable stay. Didn't have a chance to check out the pool, but I would expect it was fine. Service at desk was friendly and efficient. Took less than a minute to check out. Carpet was a bit worn and the AC emitted a high pitched squeal, but really a no-stress 24-hour stay in NL. Read more

Very nice hotel for price and convenient shuttle to/from the airport. My wife, teenage daughters and I stayed in one of the family rooms and loved the size and layout of the room. The negatives were that the bathroom smelled like stale urine/beer and the pool temperature was frigid.

It has been awhile since we returned home,giving me more time to think of our stay. I give this hotel a "5" in almost all categories. I especially loved the breakfast buffet. Expensive, but such an array of Dutch foods, meats, cheese and baked goods.
