"Horrible Shuttle Service"
While this hotel fit the bill for a reasonable price at an airport hotel on a long night layover between AMS and North America for my family, the service of the shuttle was awful. Despite having booked the shuttle in advance for airport pickup, it arrived 30 minutes late. In the eaving before leaving I went to the front desk to confirm seats for 8:00 […] in the morning and arrived at 7:45 with my family. At 8:00 a small van arrived with seating for only half of those present and waiting. We were told that despite our reservation it was full and would return in another 30 minutes. After considerable pressing and obvious dissasisfatction a second van was brought around about ten minutes later, but the snickering from the staff was obvious. Why take a reservation list at all if it will not be honored? When I asked the desk cklerk she shrugged it off and said 8:00 is always overbooked. "You get what you pay for"
1) The reason for a low score on the 'Cleanliness' criteria is that the hot water kettle in the room was absolutely dirty with corrroded heating element. 2) The reason for a low score on "Service" criteria is that the airport shuttle was often late at the airport. Directions to Schiphol to drop of the rental car was not made clear by desk clerks. We got 2 different directions from hotel people. One set of verbal directions did not work, and I found later it lacked clarity.. Small simple directional maps for guests should be handed out to guests. Hallway carpet at baseboard needed vacuum. "Physical plant is fine, but the service is uneven"
This hotel is an "airport" hotel, ok for an overnight stay between planes, but that's all. The desk staff was very helpful, although it was the only one of the 3 hotels we'd booked through Hotels.com that required additional payment when we checked in--some kind of "tourist tax"--only a few Euros, but still a surprise. The dining room service otoh was […] the worst I can recall in years, and they weren't that busy. We only ordered soup and salad...it took at least 15 minutes for the soup to arrive; when the salad hadn't arrived in 45 minutes, we cancelled the order. And the waiter actually had the nerve to argue that it hadn't been 45 minutes! It's also the only hotel I can remember that has a computer in the lobby for guest use, but no printer..which, if you don't have a smart phone, makes it necessary to email boarding passes to the desk for staff to print, an unnecessary burden if they're busy. "Not a good experience............"
The best that can be said is that it is close to the airport. We paid for the breakfast which was offered the morning of our departure and asked for a wake-up call the night before. They assured us that we would get a call at 6:00am in order to have breakfast and get to the airport in time to catch our flight back to the US. "OK for the money"
There was a rag stuffed in the overhead light socket. The bottom of the shower curtain was dirty. There were no washcloths, threadbare towels and limited amenities left (no bar soap, conditioner). This is a very basic BW with overall good (but not great) cleanliness of the rooms and amenities. It does have a gym which looked decent (didn't check it out). The airport shuttles are great and take you to and from Amsterdam airport every 30 min! I write as someone who is used to American hotels. As a Best Western, this airport hotel experience was very different than that of all other hotels with which I am familiar. Let me start by saying that the reception staff was the most hard working and passionate I have ever seen. This is said even though they are being asked to do the impossible. In the morning, they were checking guests in and out, while, at the same time acting as omelette preparers and breakfast staff. There were no evening housekeeping staff. When I got to my room I noticed that no soap or shampoo were there. I called the front desk and was told that they were out of soap and shampoo because management had forgotten to reorder these. However, 10 minutes later, there was a knock on my door and one of the front desk staff members brought me one piece of soap. So, my conclusion is that the staff is very hard working but that the management style is geared toward minimizing costs for the company rather than providing a quality experience for the guests. This hotel has a purpose but if you are staying in Amsterdam for more than a day I would get something a little nicer. It is close to the Airport and about 20 minutes from downtown. The free parking is nice and it has a McDonalds next to it so that’s nice it you don’t want to pay for overpriced hotel food. Pool was not impressive nor was the fitness […] center. Did not offer a same bed for my wife and I so we had to push the beds together. Sheets had stains and the bed was not very comfortable. This nice hotel had one flaw. That was in the shuttle system getting from the airport to the hotel. We went to the designated pick-up point, and a shuttle bus showed up in about 10 minutes. A mob ran to where it parked, and 8 folks of that mob got into the shuttle. That left 15 - 20 folks still waiting. Shortly afterwards, another shuttle bus showed […] up, and again a mob descended upon the shuttle, with 8 folks again getting lucky. And more folks showed up all the time to get ot the hotel, as other flights landed. After three times of missing out on the shuttle, we hired a taxi to take us the 4 km to the hotel.
