The classic Amsterdam image of stately canals, the Canal Loop is principally the Herengracht and Keizersgracht, lined with gracious tall 17th and 18th-century houses. Some of these are now museums, most notably the eccentric Kattenkabinet. The Amstel is a more down-to-earth waterway, lined with houseboats and famous for its classic much–photographed Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). The floating Flower Market is also a much-loved canal feature.

"Ideal for those seeking old world charm."
Old hotel with old, warn furnishings, but clean and well maintained. It was ideally located in Central Amsterdam, within walking distance of all of Amsterdam's major sites and museums. Rates seemed high, given its old furnishings and small space.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is wonderfully located, but because it is in the university area, it was somewhat noisy at night. Like many European hotels, there was limited access to free internet. Our room was generously sized, and the minibar refrigerator made it easy to store food for picnics. Amsterdam is otherwise an expensive city for Americans these days!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel and staff were fine- location excellent if you want to be close yet quiet. Breakfast was a little pricey but that is Europe. "Very friendly staff with a sense of humour"
Placed in a quiet yet cozy street in the centre of Amsterdam, the NH Doelen provides great service from friendly staff, that seem to enjoy their jobs--even if they don't enjoy it, they don't make it your problem. We, arriving late at night, were very tired, and filling out forms was the last thing we wanted to do. But the receptionist was very helpful […] and patient and we finished in no time at all. We then went to our room and found it to be the perfect size, with enough space to be able to move comfortably, but not too big or small--also keep in mind we ordered an extra bed. The bathroom was spacious and clean, and housekeeping was very generous with their complimentary toiletries. The room was also very accomodating, supplied with a kettle and safe--both worked well, bless them. The staff was very helpful when we wanted to find places to eat. They managed to track down an old memory from thirty-five years ago, which made our day! And while waiting for our dinner guest to meet us, we discovered a nice lounge to relax in, away from the lobby area. This has a terrific location, walking distance to everything. HOWEVER! This really is a run down, tired hotel but with modern day prices. Our room needed a total reno, the T.V. was so old, I half expected the Lucy show to come on. We did not try the very expensive breakfast, unable to secure local financing. In room coffee was a kettle you plugged in […] to a socket half way up the wall - had to put it on a chair to reach. Although the staff were top drawer, cannot recommend this hotel. "Bra läge men varmt!"
Trevligt hotell till rimligt pris i bästa läge. Dock inte mer än 3 stjärnig standard, lite små rum och lite slitet. Nära till allt men lugnt. Vi hade utsikt mot kanalen vilket ju var fint men innebar lite trafikljud från gatan på andra sidan kanalen. Ljudet var dock försumbart om man hade fönstret stängt, vilket vi dock gärna hade haft öppet eftersom […] det blev enormt varmt på kvällen och natten och det inte finns aircon utan endast en skruttig högljudd fläkt. Ok säng, dock ganska hård. Kuddarna var förfärliga men det finns en kuddmeny av olika sorter att välja på kostnadsfritt. Jättetrevlig personal som fixar allt snabbt och bra. Dyr frukostbuffe för 20 €, kostar dock 15€ om man bokat en dag i förväg. god men inte prisvärd, det finns istället massor av cafeer nära som dessutom har drickbart kaffe. Vårt rum hade minibar och tekokare, bra för nödproviant. Vi hade med oss ett spädbarn som de fixade en fin resesäng till utan extra kostnad. Dock blev det rätt så trångt i rummet med den. Utmärkt läge för att kunna gå eller ta spårvagnen runt i Amsterdam. Personalen mycket vänlig och hjälpsam med alla frågor på ett flertal språk. Vi blev uppgraderade för att vi kom före inchekningstid, och fick ett härligt rum med utsikt över kanalen. Stort , ljust och rent rum. Hotel NH Doelen er beliggende i et roligt kvarter, men dog i Amsterdams Centrum. Der er få minutters gang til hjertet af byen, sporvogn og kanalrundtur. Hotellets placeringen gør, at man nemt kan veksle mellem hektisk byliv og afslappende "sidegademiljø". I kvarteret er beliggende cafeer og restauranter for enhver smag og pengepung. Som ved andre hoteller […] er der en A- og en B-side. Værelserne mod B-siden er uden udsigt og med lidt trafikstøj, men dog rigtigt hyggelige.
