Still small enough to explore on foot, Playa del Carmen has a relaxed, yet cosmopolitan feel, with a variety of hotels, shops, and restaurants ranging from causal to upscale. European-style sunbathing is common on beaches. Playa is a popular jumping-off point for day trips to Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Tulum, and other peninsula attractions, and a passenger ferry makes frequent runs to Cozumel.

Loved the buffet breakfast: excellent food, nice outdoor ambiance and beautiful views. The room service was was great as well as the rest of the staff: very friendly and accomodating. An opportunity for improvement would be to have the pool side bar open daily in the evenings.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We loved our stay at this beautiful and open air hotel. Their hospitality was wonderful. Beautiful and well maintained gardens with beautiful walkways to the rooms and to the patio area with the swimming pool. Breakfast buffet was enjoyable and delicious.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"lovely hotel in quiet, safe neighborhood"
My kids and I stayed here for four nights. I felt safe and comfortable. Lovely staff, and nice clientele. Breakfast buffet at tables by the poolside saved us time and money each day. We booked a basic suite, which felt like a small house, due to the full dining room, living room and kitchen (fridge, stove and microwave). I think all the suites have […] patios or big balconies. The bathroom was more artistic than functional, and the marble tiled floor could get slippery. Firm beds and plenty of complimentary bottled water. It cost 70 pesos for a cab ride to town/beach/ADO station. 155 pesos cab ride to Xcaret. There is a convenience store just a short walk down the road, which was particularly handy when my son got travelers stomach . I was able to walk to the shop, buy pepto bismol tablets, yogurt, jello, etc and be back again in 15 minutes. I definitely recommend staying here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Quiet"
Our room was very dated, and the bathroom is like a dark cave. But I have seen other rooms are very nice. I only stay for 3 nights, and it was my 2nd night I found other room are nicer, so I didn't bother to change the room. Staff are friendly. Nice location if you enjoy walking.Genuine Expedia guest review

"very special and wonderful"
we had a wonderful time at the Hacienta Vista Real in Playa del Carmen. The staff was extremely nice and friendly and provided excellent customer Service. We were treated like Royalty. The building is unique in its architecture and it feels very solid. The Ambassador Suites are extremely roomy, full of light with a very stylish interior design which […] gave us the feeling of living in a mansion. We truly enjoyed our stay, and we are planning to go back soon. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"If you can find it...it is very worthwhile!"
Our suite was superb -- 5 balconies, huge space, excellent value -- extraordinarily good value! Beautiful decor and architecture, delicious, varied breakfasts. But: impossible to locate! We drove around and around -- street signs had arrows, but there was NO SIGN indicating the entrance! The spa a lovely, but minimally functional: no hot tubs, sauna […] or steam...the spa needs to be brought to full function. Finally, the bathtub is quite deep; grab bars need to be placed beside the tub for safety. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel!"
Great location, great staff, excellent breakfast. Everything you need for a reasonable price.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice looking, horrible service, false advertising."
The hotel looked nice, the breakfast was ok. The staff was nice but they seriously misadvertised on hotels.com what you would get. We pre-paid for a pillow-top king bed. So we get there and the mattress is a king but its sitting on a full size box, we slid off the sides, not pillow top either. We got switched to a new room two nights later finally, […] and the bed was king but again was not pillow top, even harder than before, and this time we had no mini bar. We went to to the front desk and they said they could nothing that night, and they didnt do anything for the rest of our stay. Other things were that the hotel was very noisy starting at 6 am, you could hear people talking as if they were in our room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Food Service & check-out flexibility"
Nice Gardens, I have two complaints: a)No place where to eat Jan 1st. The front desk didn't even have a pizza delivery number to call. b) They wanted us out on the dot at 12:00 noon, no buts.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Big rooms. Peaceful location. Far from services."
The rooms are huge. Breakfast is very good. Pool offers plenty of shade. Very safe. Must pass through two guarded gates in order to reach the hotel. No restaurant or bar after 3:00 pm. About a 20 minute walk to downtown Playa. About a 1/2 hour walk to the beach.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Quiet and confortable stay"
Great Hotel if you dont want to be just in Playa del Carmen (the beach is about 30 minute walk). Has enough parking lots, nice and quiet neighbourhood, great breakfast buffet; deffinetely ask for a room on first floor with balcony as we did.....much better than on ground floor. "A quiet peaceful hidden gem"
A hidden gem. This hotel seems to draw primarily business folks. It is a bit off the beaten path, which makes it wonderful. Peaceful, quiet and in a beautiful setting. Your clients need to know that less than 1/4 mile away is a small shopping area with three restaurants, a laundry, and a convenience store (24/7). Surely no one needs to pay US$6+ to […] travel that distance. The beach is about one mile away, easily accessible on foot in about 1/2 hour's walk. It's beautiful, but there are no services right there. We will definately try to stay there again, the next time we are in Playa. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"WELL WORTH THE MONEY"
I had visited Vista Real many years ago when it was still part of the vacation ownership (timeshares) and it was a beautiful place. About three years ago it was sold. The greatest spa I had ever seen is now closed. The hotel itself is kept very clean, but I am starting to see a few things (maintenance issues) being overlooked. Included is free internet […] (with a computer in the main entrance). Fast and great. The staff is very friendly and when our TV didn't work, the maintenance man came immediately! The breakfast, included with stay, is amazing. It is an entire small but varied buffet, with different native Mexican foods daily, cheeses, cold meats, coffee, cereals, etc. The only negative I really have about the hotel is the distance from town. If you have a car, it is an idealic and calming setting in the middle of the golf course in Playacar. Walking is another thing. It was hot, but... Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good Value for Money"
The Hacienda Vista Real is an excellent value if you're willing to stay at a hotel that's not on the beach. The Ambassador Suite that I stayed in was huge and quite comfortable. The pool is nice and you couldn't ask for a quieter location. The downsides of the hotel are that the spa is closed and food service is not available after 3:00 p.m. The suites […] come with their own kitchen, so you can make your own food if you want, or you can go into town. Hacienda Vista Real was an elegant, old world beautiful, clean and comfortable treasure. The atmosphere was relaxed and quiet. "Very relaxing at Hacienda Vista Real"
Nice hotel for the price. Very quiet and relaxing! The golf course and lake views are beautiful. My room had a really nice day bed outside by the balcony, close to the pool and excellent for sun bathing. The complimentary breakfast items included some local dishes that you might not recognize, but there is always somebody close to explain what it is. […] The staff is very friendly and courteous. Big ups to bartender Cervando at the pool bar. I scored them a 3 under condition and upkeep of the hotel just because the spa is not operating (they mentioned it in the descriptions though) and the jacuzzi was fixed the afternoon before our check out date. "Outstanding Hotel in Lovely Neighborhood"
The Hacienda Vista Real Resort is a jewel of a hotel. It is located in a very exclusive part of town called the Playacar, which is a gated community in Playa del Carmen. "A nice and peaceful place to relax and rest..."
Great find! It has just about everything one would need for relaxing and getting away from the daily noise and grind. It's the perfect distance from 5th Street and all the usual Playa stuff one wants to see and take in at certain times during a vacation there, but still away enough not to be bothered by noise and traffic. The staff is great and very […] accommodating and the breakfast buffet is very good with a variety of selection. If I had anything at all to say was questionable for this place, it would be the amount of help they employ for maintenance. I asked to replace a lawn-chair off my patio and it took almost all day because there just weren't enough people to get to it promptly. But that's minuscule compared to the rest I've mentioned above. Plus, there is a corner about 5 minutes walk that has a convenient store and 4 restaurants... and one of them, called "Bistro Playacar" was phenomenal. I highly recommend this hotel for people who want and relaxing and pleasing place to chill and rest. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Quiet Old World charm at a great price"
The Vista Real is a nod to a glamorous Mexico of old. It has loads of local character around every corner. What gorgeous grounds! It's location in a gated golf resort community means a very safe and quiet atmosphere. It's a quick ride or a quiet 25-minute stroll to downtown Playa and it's famous 5th Ave. We chose it as a base for day trips to snorkeling […] beaches and hence, did not care that it was not an all-inclusive on the beach resort. The included breakfast buffet by the pool each morning was outstanding! It catered to Latin/European tastes and there was something for everyone. We got the Ambassador Suite and it was a lot of room for two people with a full kitchen. We did not use the resort restaurant. There are a few good restaurants and a convenience store nearby, but otherwise you will need to venture out to the city. We got a wonderful deal online and for the price we think it was an outstanding value. If we go to Playa del Carmen again, we will definitely return. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"New Year visit to Playa, Hacienda Vista Real"
The hotel is lovely with a great view of the pool and golf course. It is in a private, quiet area and is visually pleasing. The staff was pleasant and accomodating. We booked late for the the new year's time of year, so the room we were able to attain was very small. We asked to look at a suite in case we would return; the suites are large and lovely […] and not at all pricey in the off season. We had an amazing stay at this hotel. The staff was super friendly and our suite was amazing. It was nice and quiet and the grounds were beautiful. We went to a wedding at one of the big expensive all-inclusive resorts along the beach and were so glad that we weren't staying there -- it just seemed so loud and impersonal in comparison.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Playa Del Carmen"
The Hacienda Vista Real was a nice hotel. We stayed in the Presidential Suite, which wasn't much more expensive vs a standard hotel room. We had a full kitchen, dining room and living room. Would not have liked the standard room. The pool is small, but not many people go to the pool. Breakfast was very good. The spa and fitness center is completely […] shut down. "Vista Real - Quiet, relaxed and off the main drag."
The hotel was an unexpected find - clean, inexpensive and quiet. Breakfast was included and the buffet was varied and tasty. It isn't located near the beach so don't expect to stumble out onto the sands of Playa del Carmen and it was tricky to negotiate the retorno's and streets of Playacar at night the first time. If however, you want something a […] bit grown up, out of the way and safe this is it. It has a nice swimming pool overlooking the golf course and it's about a 15-20 minute walk into Playa del Carmen itself. There is however, no evening meal served so eat out before you come back in the evening and the amazing looking spa next door was not open for business which was a shame. Otherwise good value especially if you get breakfast thrown in. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Our Mexican home away from home"
We chose to upgrade from their standard room ( nice room , but the upgrade to the suite was reasonable and gave us TONS of space ) .... we had a kitchen , living room , dining room , and a patio ..... absolutely gorgous and we could have lived there forever it was so amazing . The staff at the resort were fantastic and willing to accomodate any request […] we made . They happily provided us with patio furniture , a coffee pot , purified water for drinking , and reccomendations on places to see , activities to try , etc. The breakfast buffet that was included with our reservation was awesome ..... always had fresh fruit , juices , cereals , pastries , yougurts , coffee and at least 5-6 hot food items as well as the option to have "cooked to order eggs , including omelettes " . The pool area , where the buffet was set up is wonderful as well ... there is a pond overlooking the golf course just behind the resort and the birds , ducks , turtles are used to having people around and will be close enough to watch while you eat . ( some folks actually fed the ducks and turtles as well ) . If If you choose to not want to go far for supper or late night snacks , there is a small convienence store with a couple restaurants a few blocks away at the enterance to the gated community .... we at at the Bistro and had Mexican Empanada's ..... both were very good . In summary , I would reccomend this resort to anyone that is wanting beauty , relaxing , and charm ! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice place with more potential."
Friendly staff attentive to guests. Room excellent and attractive but suggest installing security grab bars in shower/tub areas; needed for all, not just those insecure in their ambulation. Palapa reception very attractive but could be more so. Patch the holes in the thatch. More furniture for seating needed. More lighting for reading in that area--it […] is used a lot for that purpose. Set up a lobby bar off to the side. Plenty of room. Very needed because there is nothing to do there or nearby except at poolside. Should be a place for guests to congregate and get a drink. The spa! A unique place but don't advertise it if it is closed and essentially abandoned. It has much potential, but is kind of sad in its unused grandeur. One more thing: this is not a place for people who half walking problems. Hot tub not very good. If you are looking for a hot time, this is not the place. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
