Ocean Maya Royale All Inclusive

First time in an all-inclusive, and we were very happy. The beach isn't the best for swimming, but it is better than some of the surrounding resorts. The pool is wonderful, as is the lounging area of the beach. Staff was great- polite and eager to help. Overall, very pleased with the resort.

We only stayed in this resort for 2 days. The food and service are good, considering the relative low price. The beach is nowhere near as nice as the beaches in Cancun or Tulum. And it's quite crowded.

As the Ocean Maya Hotel is a resort for adults only, and I went there with my parents, most of the tourists were couples. But the resort itself is wonderful, well-maintained and cozy (not so big as other ones). It's close to Playa de Carmen (ca. 10km) and to Cancun (40km) and to other major tourist sights, like the Tulum ruins. The rooms are big, with […] a balcony or terrace. I'm not one to take the time to fill something like this out (although I do always read alot of the reviews before I book#. Here are just a few of the complaints I had: - Was told on arrival that the upgraded room I had reserved #and paid for months in advance) was "not available", but they would put me in the best room available (i.e. the basic room). - […] The trash cans in the room were still full of trash upon check-in. - The noise from the a/c fan was barely tolerable on the low setting, sounded like it was going to crash through the ceiling on mid/high settings. Called and their "fix" after hearing the sound on the mid/high settings was to turn the fan to the low setting. - The cork from the welcome bottle of wine literally crumbled into the wine when I started to insert the corkscrew. - The WiFi never worked. After multiple calls/trips to the front desk the repeated answer was, "The connection is sometimes bad so keep trying." (Witnessed others making the exact same complaint.) Misc topics: -Food: at it's best was slightly above average. -Beach: not much of one, but you can walk freely in either direction. (The "lagoon" about 10 minute walk north of the resort wasn't spectacular, but worth walking to if interested in getting into the water.) -Their upgraded "Privilege Service": only worth it if you need/want internet (since no WiFi, in the Privilege lounge they have 2 computers for use). Overall the Hotel and staff were very good. The food and drinks were very good as well. (Japanese Tepanyaki/Hibachi Restaurant was our favorite). The beach at this resort leaves a bit to be desired (murky water and somewhat rocky) compared to other places we've been in Riviera Maya but we had a great time regardless.

With upgrade to 'ocean view jr. suite' our room was just steps from both beach and pool w/ fab view of both. Room was nice, service friendly, beach & pool sparkly clean and the grounds beautifully landscaped. My experience with this hotel was so disappointing. I was there with my 16 yr old daughter on a mother/daughter trip so we were pretty low maintanence. We did not spend time drinking, eating or going to shows like most of the guests. In fact, I had planned several excursions that had us away from the hotel everyday. With that said, the time we did spend […] there was pretty frustrating. It started at check in when the initial room they took us to had a king bed & I had reserved a room with 2 queens. After tipping the bell boy to move us to that room, we sat around & waited to find out if we would be able to move to another room. We moved ourselves to the next room and immediately noticed there were no towels. Towels were brought and we unpacked,& went on with the rest of the day. Later that night, as we climbed in bed after a really long day travelling, we discovered there were no pillowcases on the pillows. Again, we had to call the front desk & wait for pillowcases. We quickly discovered the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable. Next day, we discovered that the water from the shower poured out onto the bathroom floor so I spent alot of time drying the floor with towels. It was impossible to get beach chair, even at 7:30 a.m. The pool bar had one bartender for 500 guests. Internet only in lobby and was out half the time.No reservations at the restaurants and the hosts at the Japenese & Italian place were very rude. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the staff was very friendly and accomodating. The rooms were great- my only complaint was that there was no full length mirror! I thought that was odd. The pool bar was well tended and they were friendly. The entertainment staff was really fun and there was stuff to do everynight we were there. The hobey cat (small catamrand) was free for using and you (if you know how to drive it) could go to an awesome reef about 1/2 or so from the beach and snorkel there- only $20 for the snorkling gear- great deal. The only thing i would say that was bad about this resort was the food. It was terrible. They tried to "americanize" the food and it just turned out bad. Everything was very oily and by the 7th day- we were ready for some real mexican food! Honestly- we were really sick of it. Other than that it was a really good time! Be careful when you book excursions. Someone from the Dive Shop approached us poolside with a Catamaran excursion to the Isle of Women by Cancun. We were told only 1 stop and that was to the sister hotel, and only 14 people aboard. We made 4 stops and none were to the sister hotel. and there was about 30 people aboard and no where to sit.
