Snorkeling and diving are popular in the small resort town of Akumal, and at Kantenah beach to the north, where the coastline runs parallel to a protected coral reef. In the summer months, sea turtles crawl onto the white-sand beaches by moonlight to lay their eggs. Yal-Ku Lagoon, once a trading route for the ancient Maya, is a bird watcher’s paradise, and can be explored by foot or kayak.

"Cute resort with a lot of potential"
We were terrified by the reviews leading up to our vacation at Oasis Tulum and were pleasantly surprised overall. The beach is amazing and there is excellent snorkeling right outside. The hotel in general (both the grand Tulum and the Oasis Tulum) are very nice except for a few minor issues. Examples include leaky faucets, beach towels running out early […] and average food. However, we knew that the nightly rate we were paying was not going to get us the very best that Mexican luxury resorts have to offer and simply can not complain about these things the way some of the reviews have done. Our room (in Oasis Tulum) was very nice. It was clean, service was great and our room and beds were made daily. The staff generally were very friendly and helpful. We would strongly recommend carrying your own snorkeling gear and visiting neighboring beaches such as Playa Del Carmel and Tulum. The newer part of the resort is very chic and has a lot of potential, but it seems recently finished and a few finishing touches (such as hot water in small pools and jaccuzis) were not yet up and running. Overall a great vacation without any sewage smell or any of the other hellish stories mentioned in previous reviews, at least for us. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Getting much better under new management."
This hotel is under new management and under new name - Oasis Tulum (old names: Grand Oasis, BeLive). New management is working very hard to fix all different issues this hotel had in the past. This is our 4th time in this hotel (name of hotel is changed again). Staff as always very friendly and working hard to make you vacation pleasant. We had several […] small issues with room (broken lights, mirror, etc.) but most of issues were fixed promptly once reported to reception (nothing serious). Food is excellent and nice selection of drinks. Hotel is still under renovation, so part of it closed, but it seems it will be very nice once renovation is completed. Cons: 1. Our request to get all rooms together was not accommodated even so it was sent several month in advance. 2. Beach was a bill rocky due to resent storm - but this is no hotels fault and we were told this will be fixed soon as part of Federal program. Pros: Excellent Staff; Great Food; location; Improvements by new management. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Not very many workers new English....however the resort was amazing. The food was probably the best part! We thought the beach was georgeous and loved how many pools there where because they were never crowdedGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice"
For the price, this is a solid all-inclusive. The food was great, the service was great and the location is beautiful. Awesome snorkeling right off the beach, plus beautiful sandy swimming area. Close to area attractions, such as Yal Ku Lagoon and Tulum. Some minor inconsistencies, such as no kayaks or snorkeling equipment are available even though […] they are advertised on their website. Not perfect or high-end, but still very nice. I would return. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Just came back for a second time. They still have some kinks to work out, but what they lack they make up for in service!! It's a smaller property so if you are looking for big crazy resort fun, this is not for you! Food is okay, very good in the restaurants, and plentiful! Thae beach is excellent!! I can't say enough about the beach!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"A decent hotel"
We spent a week in the middle of March 2012 and wanted to say that despite a few shortcomings, there are some great things about this hotel. Yes, the rooms look a bit dated but the cleanliness is impecable and the beds are extremely comfortable. As a plus, the sheets get changed every day. The beach is truly amazing - I have never seen clearer water. […] You can actually see some small fish swimming and, I hear, you can snorkel around it too. As a plus to me, the hotel is small so it has a cozy feeling about it. Some of the shortcomings are that staff even at the reception are not fluent in English and it just doesn't feel like there is strong management. Some small things could be better - like have more variety at the buffet (although the food itself was great and there were tons of healthy options), they could buy more swimming masks, etc. But, overall, this is a value hotel so don't expect lobster dinners but be realistic about where it stands on the price scale and thus the services you will get. "Good Stay"
We enjoyed our stay-the staff works hard to keep everything in great condition. We only had problems with keeping our room refigerator stocked with bottled water. The beach was great, food good, room was clean, neat and very quiet. We enjoyed our stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Be Live was grand"
Overall we enjoy the hotel. Grounds are very beautiful. We upgraded to the OceanView. I highly recommend this. At first my husband wanted to be on the ground level but we were placed on the third floor. After one day we were very happy with being up high and having a much more spectacular view. The AC was not the greatest in the room but being able […] to leave the door open and have the breeze from the ocean gave our room a comfortable feel. Checking in does need some work, they are not the most informative, or helpful, but the rest of the staff were friendly, pleasant, and willing to help. Tips is highly recommended it will get you a lot farther and thats what the people of Mexico live for not their low wages. The food in the specialty restaurants was very good, the buffet was average. We would stay here again and recommed it to family and friends. No it is not a 5 start hotel but for the money it was very nice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Wonderful time at Be Live Riviera Maya 2012"
What a wonderful trip to the Riviera Maya. Be Live was a lovely resort, with really great staff. We were pleasantly surprised because we were'nt expecting much after reading all of the reviews. There were a few things that need improvement, as the hotel is aging, but the staff is always at work cleaning and maintaining the resort. Armondo, the hotel […] manager is amazing! He set up a lovely moonlit dinner for us on our last day. George the bartender is a blast...check him out on the rooftop bar after 11pm. The beach was beautiful...we snorkeled right off the beach and saw many colorful fish and reefs. I fell in love with the delicious fruit smoothies available in the pool bar. Try the Akumal smoothie. Yum! The food was good, especially in the gourmet restaurant. We ate the buffet for breakfast and lunch and made reservations for dinner each night in one of the five different restaurants. The reservations arent that hard to deal with. Just wait at 530pm each evening for a time either 630, 730 or 830. Beds were nice and soft. Grab your towel and chair as early as possible as it is true that they fill up quick and run out. We never saw anyone camping out on the sand, so people must ave found chairs. Tons of French Canadian and Argentinian people here...we were the minority as amercians, so that was interesting. Oh! Do bring your own insulated mug for drinks. Overall, we had a wonderful expeience and can't wait to go back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"We had an amazing time and the beach was beautiful!"
The staff was amazing (especially Martin and Oscar). Some tips: -Public transportation is the best way to get around since it is only $3 and has a far reach, such as Playa Del Carmen. You can pick it up at any avenue near the hotel (about a 5 min. walk). You just stand on the side of the street and the white van picks you up. I believe it runs 5am-1am. -There […] is a bellhop at the hotel named Oscar who speaks English flawlessly and is very helpful when it comes to finding out where/how to get around and get the best prices so find him if you need any help. He is great! -We wanted to go on a few tours and found that some of the best prices were offered at the WalMart in Playa Del Carmen. -The hotel is about 1-1.5 hours from the Cancun airport. If you want to save some money and your travel times allow, you can take a taxi into Playa Del Carmen and then take public transit to the hotel (they will actually drop you off right at the entrance to the hotel). -If you want to go to the Tulum ruins, you don't need to take an expensive tour since it's a public park and there is simply an entrance fee of approximately $7. There are several walking tours you can listen in on. -When you get to the hotel, ask for the restaurant schedule and activity schedule for the week since they don't automatically give it to you. -Get to the restaurants by 6pm to make reservations since they fill up fast. -Ask for double drinks so they are stronger and bring a coffee mug to keep them cold. "Great Trip!"
We loved this resort! The van ride from the airport is about 90 minutes, but it was fun to sightsee along the way. Check in was fast and easy, no complaints there! The beach is absolutely stunning. We walked to Akumal and other resorts, Be Live had by far the prettiest beach, with lots of fun colorful fish for snorkeling. The beach was the best part […] of our trip, crystal clear water. This is not a "party" resort, it is very quiet and serene, which is what we were looking for, so perfect for us. Our expedia rep(Jaime) at the hotel was wonderful, helped us to book fishing trips and Xcaret. Our room was very cozy, air conditioning worked great, beds were really comfy. Our room was cleaned daily, the maids left us some fun towel decorations with fresh flowers everyday. Our minibar was stocked daily with soda and water also. Buffet is good, breakfast is great with made to order omelets. There is a snack menu that you can ask about with club sandwiches, burgers, etc. in case you get tired of the local fare. The ala carte restaurants were fun, food was really good there. The staff at this resort work so very hard to make sure it is clean and the guests are happy. We were very happy about our stay. Make sure to bring sunscreen, it is very expensive in the gift shop. If you can bring a large travel mug for drinks, do it! The bar glasses are rather small, but the bartenders are very accommodating. All in all, really relaxing and nice trip. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice hotel, with a beautiful beach"
A friend and I just recently stayed at Be Live in Riviera Maya, we had a wonderful time. The grounds where very well maintained, they were constantly cleaning. The beach was lovely we went snorkling almost everyday and there were tons of beautiful fish to look at. Also the staff was absolutely lovely they knew our names and spoke every time they saw […] us. I would definitely return. The only issues we had was there didn't seem to be enough wash clothes to go around. So I would suggest bringing your own. Also there wasn't enough variety at buffet. The food was good but the same things were served daily with maybe one or two things changed. However if you are looking for a good rexaling time, this is a great place. "Be Live Grand Rivera Maya"
Very good location: one of the best beach in the area, very close to Akumal (great scuba-diving), Cenotes Dos Ojos, Ponderosa, and more (even better diving). Only 20 min from Tulum, and Coba is also not to far. Staff is very friendly and helpful with aception of one person - Alberto (in reception area) who was very annoed with any question and was making […] everything seems to be a problem (I had to adk him 4 time to sell me internet access and he was telling me that it does not work, but in fact it did work). Bar-service is also great, especialy Victor - very frinedly bar-man who makes excellent drinks. Some comments to managment, they should realy expand veriaties of available alcohol, since last year (I stayed there a year ago) it whent down - there is only one type of tequila and definetly not the good quality. Vine is also realy bad. But overall hotel is good condition - very clean and good maintened. You can see wild-life and it seems eco-friendly. Again, beach is very nice especialy for small kids. The grounds here are beautiful and well maintained. The beach is spectacular, with gently sloping white powder sand to the ocean. There are plenty of padded lounge chairs and thatched umbrellas for shade for everyone at this time of year. We stayed in a garden view room looking out on a beautiful garden area with palm trees, flowers, and very peaceful […] pool area. The food in the buffet was very good for all meals with different themes for dinner daily. One or two specialty reservation restaurants were open each night, the Italian and Brazilian were very good. Hotel needs a little updating. Bar service was excellent, check in counter not friendly or helpfull at all. Compare to other resorts not very much going on at night. Food was good for an all inclusive. The mini bar is not stock with beer only two bottle waters and two pop, if you want beer in your room they only will give you two a day and you do have […] to ask for them. If you want a relaxing vacation with a beautiful beach I wouold recommend the ocean front. Overall we went there to relax. If you are looking to drink and go crazy this is not a place for you. "Good option"
The hotel is very good in almost every aspect, the only thing that can be better its the drinks since there is only Corona beer and national drinks in the all inclusive, there are some special restaurants that only open for dinner ask the hotel staff for the schedules of each of this restaurants since they have limited capacity , 20-30 persons per round […] and there are 2 up to 3 rounds per dinner , besides this restaurants the buffet is open almost all day and has a very good selection of food. Every day there is a show in the theater and after that the DJ starts the music , if you are looking for real good nightlife you should try going to Playa del Carmen(which is like 20-30 min from the hotel) where there are a lot of bars and nightclubs that open till 6-7 am Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Owesome time!"
What to write about a place with which you are connected with such pleasant memories? It is always easier to write about what you do not like and to complain, and so hard to describe what's so amazingly good at this hotel. We did not like it first sight, but then, as often happens in life, sometimes you need time to understand. We had to change our […] room, walk on the coast and to compare with other hotels to adequately appreciate this amazing place. The hotel is not small or large, people are scattered, not dreary solitude. This location is unique among private villas on both sides It's unique coastline, where turtles lay their hundreds of eggs at night, and every 500 meters guards are watching, protecting this endangered species. The hotel staff tried to make our holiday complete. Interesting show programs, no need to go somewhere and pay money to see professional performances featuring Mexican culture, the rituals of the Maya, to hear the sweet voices of mariachi. If you are dance fans, like me, you will love the daily disco on the roof in a snow-white interior with views of the sea and palm trees under the cheerful rhythms of Mexican music. Thank you staff and management of the hotel. I particularly respect the director Miguel all of our requests were granted. Excellent entertainment program, thank you Angel, you are the best, great dance teacher! We had awesome time in a group of 6 women from 24 to 74 years young. We all truly enjoyed this hotel. "Be Live Grand Riveria Maya - All Inclusive"
We just returned from a 7 day/6 night stay at this resort. We got a great deal from hotels.com, and for the price, I feel that we definitely got our money's worth. The rooms were clean and spacious enough, balcony was right on the beach, pools very close to the room. Maids did an excellent job each day straightening up the room. If you're looking for […] multiple expansive pools, this is not the place. It has two small pools and one a bit larger with a swim up bar but there are certainly resorts with larger pools to offer. My only real concern was regarding the food. The non-buffet restaurants were on a rotating schedule, not open every night. They were small and filled up quickly. There was no menu to order from, rather a selection of 3 main courses. The buffet had a decent selection of food choices, but by the 6th day we had grown tired of it. Waiter service is slow. I would recommend this resort if you want a good deal, something quiet and relaxing, and aren't looking for an expansive resort with multiple amenities like some of those in Cancun. Been to cancun and area 10 times. Read all the bad reviews about this hotel but have never let that effect me. Found the hotel to be clean, workers for the most part friendly and eager to please. Girl on the desk when we checked in could have been a little nicer. Other than that everyone went out of their way for you. Read reviews about the workers […] expecting tips. Did not find that at all, I tip for good service so I tipped often here because I thought it was deserved. Pools were very nice but there is a little trouble getting chairs around pool area. "Be Live Grand Riviera Maya- beautiful hotel!"
I read negative reviews of this place, but the deal was right so I took a chance and booked. I'm so glad I did. The hotel used to be called Oasis Akumal, and there are still a few remnants of the old name around. My read on the hotel is that it was built to be a very high end hotel. The tilework is gorgeous, the pools and rooms are well designed, and […] the beach is one of the best in the area. There are living corals super close to the shore, and while shore snorkeling we were lucky to witness a huge sea turtle munching on coral, 5 feet away. There's also a Million colorful fish to see, but unfortunatly many sea urchins too (spikey and bad). Bring your own snorkel mask, because the loaner-masks run out quickly. I also recommend water shoes. As an all-inclusive it's fine. The food is fine, drinks are fine--on par with most all-inclusives. If you want local flavor, skip all-inclusives and stay in Playa del Carmen. The hotel staff is great. I think that when the new management took over, they cut a lot of costs. But that doesn't mean the staff working there cuts corners. Don't treat staff people poorly. Thank them and smile. Bring a bunch of dollar bills or ten peso coins and tip when you feel moved to. Never yell at some poor kid, even if you have a complaint. Honey vs vinegar. Pick the ocean view room option if it's available. Room 2307 was amazing, with a vaulted ceiling, and a big balcony with hammock and awesome view. Wifi costs extra, peacocks wander the property, and many of the guests are European and nice. "Very beautiful resort, but a bit far from everything"
The Be Live Grand Riviera Maya was great. The beach was beautiful with such calm waters. Pools offered great views and swimming. Daily activities were so much fun thanks to Martin! The staff was so accommodating and very friendly, very happy to help you out and offer information. Food was good, although they should have had guacamole every night being […] that you're in Mexico. Room was nice with working A/C to keep you cool and comfortable. Not much of a party atmosphere. I went with 3 other girls for a girls' weekend. Although they have dancing on the rooftop at night, it's more of a family or couples resort. The resort is a bit far from most attractions. It was about 1 hour from Cancun, 45 minutes to Chichen Itza, and 25 minutes to Playa Del Carmen. But if you are looking for a relaxing resort, this is definitely your place to go! "IT Was Awesome"
For the Price, Totally worth it. Flaws: people wake up a t6:30 just to reserve chairs on the beach in the shade, its weird because who cares that much to do something like that. Also this place can take a couple hours to arrive from the airport. Pros: This place is really nice and beautiful. THe lobby is massive and has a new look, the staff are awesome, […] but get better with pesos, the room was great aswell, upgrade to the oceanfront it is tottally worth it, gardenview would be fine, but if you are on the ground level its a little swampy. I thought the drinks were fine, if it was too weak you ask for a double shot and you are good to go. The food was great too, the buffet is fine for breakfast, but you would want to visit the restaurants. Oriental was tasty, Italian was filling and tasty, Mexican did not have any nachos or fajitas but the food was delicious, and lunch time there's a mexican spot, sushi, and a barbecue, plus the buffet. No nightlife except the disco upstairs, but weak, although we could care less because we were having fun all day long. THe Beach was sublime, walk along the beach for motorised water activities( SO much Fun). LOTS of pools, but the poolbar was my favorite. This is a great "couple" place, for families its good as well, but i dislike seeing kids when im drinking. Its simple, beautiful and cheap, go and have a great time, expect to see a few drunk people, if you cant beat them, join 'em! Had so much fun, would definetely go back!
