Suites Gaby is a great hotel, especially for the price. The room was much nicer than I expected. It's very simple, but very clean, modern, and nice. The bathroom was in great shape and the shower was lovely with a very soothing shower head. Room was very clean. They decorated toilet nicely. Right next to Mercado 28. The only thing is that the AC never cooled off. What a pleasant surprise. Great room, comfy bed, lovely 'raindrop' shower, all round it was ideal. Not in the hotel zone, but there are lovely little authentic restaurants nearby and a massive flea market across the road. Perfect for us and highly recommend.

This hotel is very good and very clean with staff who are able to communicate in Spanish and English. It is not far from the bus terminal and within walking distance of most of the downtown businesses. The area around the hotel includes some good clubs for night life as well as some excellent restaurants. The rooms are immaculate however there is a couple of things that the hotel could do to improve the comfort of their guests such as provide a coffee machine and small refrigerator in their rooms. The internet is free here and is high speed so VOIP type telephone calls work just fine. There is also an out door shopping area close to the hotel where you can purchase Mexican items at reasonable prices - much lower than the Hotel Zone where the resorts are located. Good hotel and exceptionally clean , I paid mid thirties per night and it was worth every penny compared to some of the other budget hotels this one is a gem. There is only one other budget hotel that I consider better than Gaby and that is the Ambiance located near the Palace Casino and Shopping Mall. I had one day to stay in Cancun after a week on Cozumel and PDC. I wanted to get away from the Hotel Zone and this looked like a good choice. It was actually better than I expected. It's a very modern, clean, and comfortable place at a very reasonable price, with only a couple of drawbacks. I checked in at about 3:30 pm. I was dragging a 50 lb bag […] of scuba gear with me, so i was a little put off by the fact that there is no elevator. I had to lug my bags up two flights of stairs to get to my room. Once upstairs, however, I found a clean, bright, and large room. Everything is new, from the ceramic tile floors to the AC unit. Unfortunately, the AC wasn't quite up to the task and the room, while reasonably comfortable, never got really cool. No matter. The bed had clean sheets, there was enough room to lay my gear out to dry, and the 37" TV had a couple of English language channels on it. The neighborhood was clean and relatively safe. I went out at about midnight in search of food and found, to my surprise, several restaurants open and doing business. There were a couple of women out "working" the streets, but not enough to make it bothersome. During the day, I encountered nothing untoward, so i felt safe the entire time I was there. In the morning, I checked out a little early and the staff was nice enough to lock my luggage away for safekeeping while I roamed around a little bit. I went across the street to the Mercado 28, an "artisan market," AKA tourist trap. They actually had some reasonably nice merchandise there and at reasonable prices. I bought a few trinkets and baubles to take home with me. Overall, my impression of Suites Gaby was positive. The staff was friendly (and all spoke English very well), the rooms were very nice, and the neighborhood was clean, safe, and interesting. If you're looking for the sterile beaches of the Hotel Zone, this isn't for you. If you want more of a flavor of the real Cancun, stop by. You won't regret it. Read more

Suites Gaby ended up being exactly what we needed as we wrapped up our Isla Mujeras stay. Needing to take off from Cancun airport early in the morning, we took the ferry over to Cancun the night prior and stayed at this hotel. It is about ten miles from airport and our morning van service was prompt and was familiar with this hotel. The neighborhood is a typical mid-class area where the "people" live . . . we walked to dinner at night and felt fine. This is not located on or near the Hotel Zone. . . . . but for the great deal - it was well worth it. I would stay here again and glad we discovered the place. Just be aware that the walls are thin, and if you're going to be sensitive to the noise of your neighbor's TV, packs some ear plugs. The bus is 10 minutes away from the hotel and will drive you to the hotel zone where the best nightclubs are (but there are a lot of nightclubs and karaoke around the hotel too, 5 minutes walk and no noise in the hotel) day and night, takes only 10-15 minutes and costs 50 cents. We were scheduled to be in the Quintana Roo and the Yucatan areas from 2/15/11 to 2/21/11. We did not book a hotel for 2/20/11 (the night before our flight out of Mexico for USA) because we want to check first if Hotel Gaby was good enough for us to stay our last night in Cancun. It was. Good price too. The hotel was very clean, has good shower/bathroom […] and it was conveniently located near (around 40 mts. walk) Mercado 28. It is also near Walmart (less than 1 km, maybe 800 mts), as well as ADO bus station. The Hotel zone is not far also although you need transpo to get there. We rented a car so I could not say about the public commute. They have a restaurant in the hotel, breaakfast is not free but cheap. Read more
