Also known as El Centro, Cancun Downtown is where locals live and shop. Plaza las Americas is an American-style shopping center with large department stores and small specialty shops. Mercado Veintiocho (Market 28), an open-air flea market, is an alternative to the chain shops. Tourists often venture into area supermarkets for souvenirs and liquor. Plaza de Toros features weekly bullfighting.see all hotels in Cancun
My room was clean, no carpets, bathroom was great, great shower. It's a 10 minute walk to the bus station. Wifi could be a little weak at times. Good value for the money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a budget friendly hotel that is within walking distance to market 28 as well as walmart. It is not in the busy hotel zone. You can walk to 2 car rental places as well as several good street restaurants/ cafes. Safe locked garage parking as well as a guard on duty 24hrs. Only downfall, during the rainy season the street gets flooded VERY badly, […] just like much of Cancun really...(hotel zone streets are probably a little better maintained though). "Decent place to stay. The area is a bit run-down."
Suites Gaby is a modest but decent place to stay. It is quiet, not far from supermarket, restaurents, and R1 bus route that will reach hotel zone within 20 minutes. The downtown area where the hotel is loacted was not super however. Though it is right next to market 28 (center of Cancun), it is neither residential/local oriented nor tourism attractive. […] Market 28 is a cheap tourist-trap. If you want to dine in the restaurents, try avoid those around market 28...so many empty chairs and the only person sitting inside might be the owner or chef, so go imagine why they are disserted. The hotel (Suites Gaby) is good enough though. Steps away from the convenient store OXXO where to get coffee, and sandwiches. The front desk is courteous and helpful! Overall, it is a pleasant accommodation. If you want to explore the local lifestyle, a different area (such as zone SM 45) might be a better option! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A bargain in the city"
This is the second time I've stayed at the Hotel Suites Gaby. I've enjoyed it both times. Though the neighborhood is a bit rough (graffiti abounds in the area, though I suppose it's typical in any urban area), I never felt unsafe walking to the local establishments for food or shopping. (Full disclosure: I am a relatively fit, though short, male, so […] people tend not to bother me much anyway). Locally, there are many small eateries nearby, plus lots of larger, more "hip" places along Av. Yaxchilan. There's also el Parque de las Palapas, a couple blocks east of Ave Yaxchilan where there are food hawker booths open in the evening (at least on the evening I was there). You can stuff your face for about $5 US on tacos al pastor and other goodies. Mercado 28 is also just around the corner. Shopping for touristy stuff is easy, and food booths are abundant. In regard to the hotel itself, it's clean, quiet, and comfortable. The queen beds are reasonably supportive and the room itself is clean. If you don't like cold floors, though, the polished limestone may be a bit disconcerting. There are no elevators, so if you have lots of luggage, be prepared to pay the bellman a few dollars to help you drag stuff up the stairs. There's also no pool. I would have liked to have someplace to relax and catch a little sun, but that's more a luxury than anything. Overall, I like Suites Gaby. I thought about staying somewhere else, but chose to stay here again. I'm glad I did. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This place has the best value. Rooms were spotless and well kept. The only draw back is the neighborhood. Would not go out at night unless in a group or with a man. Great for a place to shower and sleep then go to Cancun hotel zone to hang out. A ten minute drive to Cancun's hotel zone! Would not hang out in this area by myself. Other than that would […] stay here again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, clean, no frills hotel downtown"
Suites Gaby is a no frills hotel, but clean and in room a/c. Our room had a window looking out into the hall - a bit strange. The front desk was very helpful, the location is great for getting to the local and the turista markets. Not too far from wal-mart for cheap Kahlua!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Reliable hotel in the hear of Cancun city"
I completed my third visit to Suites Gaby in Cancun in January 2013. As before the my hotel room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. This isn't a luxury hotel and tends toward the economy spectrum so the contents were nice but not opulent. The telephone, plumbing, television, internet connection, and A/C all worked as expected. I didn't need much […] in the way of service from the staff but they were capable, pleasant, and efficient when I did require their services. The hotel itself seems if fairly good repair and clean. The location is near Market 28 so it's close to plenty of dining locations. If you stay at this hotel make time to visit La Parrilla Restaurant about two blocks away, it's a quick walk. La Parrilla has mariachi musicians nightly and the food is good. Each time I've been there the clientele has been from diverse locations. This last time I met Canadians, Russians, and Japanese. Overall I got what I expected from the hotel. Remember, this is an economy hotel. My per-night cost was $45 plus taxes during the high season. I plan to stay there again when I go to Cancun. "Great for an overnight stay or layover"
This is a NO FRILLS hotel. That being said, Suites Gaby is a very clean, basic, no nonsense hotel. You get two beds, nightstand, TV and towels. That's it. No soach, shampoo, wash cloth. The room is extremely clean. There is no elevator, so you have to drag your luggage up the flights of stairs to your room. Within walking distance of WalMart and other […] convenience stores and restaurants. As I said earlier, it is great for a layover. I would definitely stay here again. "Gaby gets it right!"
So many wonderful things to say but I simply don't have time. In brief, highlights were: daytime customer service, convenient "downtown" location, and room cleanliness. Lows: Hotel walls seemed a bit thin permitting me to hear my neighbor's loud tv. Also you can skip the adjacent restaurant for cheaper, better quality food in surrounding community.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean and safe..."
Clean, safe, pleasant, and inexpensive. Not for those who find climbing stairs challenging as there are no elivators. Hallways have no AC, but the room AC is fine. Can get a bit hot on the way to the top floors. Near Market 28 where there is a very nice seafood restraunt with local prices. I was on primarily a business trip in country with a day of […] fishing prior to flying out, so I cannot speak to the location in respect to the usual Cancun activities... "Clean and good value local hotel"
Local downtown Cancun, so no beach or international bars/restaurants on the doorstep. 10-15 min. walk to the bus station, where ýou can take the R1 bus (destination "Hoteles") to go to the island with all the shopping malls and tourist bars and restaurants, if you prefer them to local, genuine Mexican places. My room had no window to the outside, only […] to the large open staircase going from the reception desk to the top floor. This means a risk of some noise from reception and from other guest using the stairs. That said, it was a good room with a new bathroom, free internet (wifi and wired), free use of safe for valuables, air con, and as many other reviewers say: It is an EXTREMELY clean hotel! "Close to Mercado 28"
Stayed at Gaby Suites for one short night. Room was clean, modern, and small. No lift, which wasn't a problem for me. Asked for a wakeup at 3:30am which was delivered on time. Had their driver reserved to take me to the airport at 4:30 and he was on time. Problem free stay. Mercado 28, the king of souveneers, was a half block away.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Clean, Simple, Cheap"
We stayed here on our first night in Cancun before heading down to Playa del Carmen the next day. Abraham was a pleasant relief after trying to navigate the streets of Cancun in a rental car at night. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It's not the fanciest place but it's completely worth it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great value and location."
Hard for driver to find without exact address. Not within walking distance of ADO station, but five minute cab ride.. Close to large market (Mercado 28) with lots of moderately priced food courts. Great value. We will stay there again in two weeks.Genuine Expedia guest review
"No frills winner"
Suites Gaby is a no-frills hotel. We liked the location in the heart of the city, a block from Mercado 28 (touristy shopping and restaurants) and close enough to walk to the ADO bus station and Commercial Mexicana (if you get good directions). Also, 100% Natural restaurant is just down the street. Hotel is safe, one of the fellows on the front desk […] speaks good English, and everything worked. Room fixtures are update, but there were no pictures or accessories to give the place charm. That could be changed. No kitchenette, which we would have needed if we were staying longer. "Good value for the price but has a couple of issue"
It's pretty much like the reviews said it would be. The value for the price is very clear. The location is great - eating at Mercado 28 is inexpensive and really pretty decent quality. The R1 bus runs all the time to the beach. Next door is a beauty parlor with trained masseuses - a great deal done very professionally. I would highly recommend getting […] one (or more). Just around the corner is a gym as well. The hotel is clean and suitable. But, be warned, it can be noisy because of it's tile floors and poor sound insulation. The bed is a bit too firm, but it's not as stiff as the worst cases I've experienced. Finally, there is only one size of pillow and it's on the thick side. The morning guy at the desk was competent it seemed but not overly friendly. The late afternoon/early evening person named Paola is extremely friendly and engaging. I really enjoyed talking with her. Everybody speaks English if you require it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Suites Gaby Cancun"
This is an economical place to stay in downtown Cancun, prices are reasonable even during the year-end holidays. Rooms are clean and location is close to Mercado 28, about 10 minutes walk to Avenida Tulum. As many reviewers mentioned before, the drawbacks are no elevator and wi-fi only in the lobby. "Gaby Hotel mixed review"
Veronica at he front desk was a saint and wonderful to help us with so many things. The place was ALWAYS BEING CLEANED, and it showed. It was spotless. You could literally eat off the floors it was so clean. The drawbacks: 1. Hard bed. 2. To big / too firm of pillows. Though there were 6 they were all the same and a selection of firmness in them […] would have been appreciated. 3. Only one glass and one bottle of water. We were two in a room with 2 beds. 4. No wash cloth. The bath towels were nice and big but the one hand towel was well let's say barely okay. The absence of a wash cloth was a real drawback. 5. No place to sit. There was 1 small straight back chair at the desk cubicle, but for sitting to watch TV or read, nothing available, and though we were 2, remember this is a room that accommodates 4. 6. No ice available. When I asked for ice, I was told I could buy it at the market down the street. Had I done so, I would have had to leave the unused portion sit in the sink to melt, since there is no fridge/freezer. The desk indicated if I wanted just a cup of ice (which I did), they could perhaps get one from the restaurant when it was open, which it wasn't. It is onlu open from 7 AM to 3 PM.after 3 PM. The Suites Gaby is lacking in frills (tile floors, no pictures on the walls, etc.) but is more than adequate for a basic place to stay when you won't be spending a lot of time in the hotel. "Excellent for the price"
We only spent one night at this hotel, we chose it b/c it was cheap and "close" to the airport and we had an early morning flight. Close means a 30 min ride, but there's really not much closer. The hotel is clean and has decent facilities, including internet access (for a fee). Room was a little hot and the AC did not really cool it, plus, the bed was […] a little uncomfortable. "Great Hotel, location is incovenient"
For a 3 star hotel, it's pretty good. Pros: The room is beautiful and so is the bathroom. Price is good. Food there is good too. They give a discount at Playa Cabana (Cabana Beach). Plus there's more sights there. Cons: The location is nowhere near a beach. They provide free transportation, but it leaves at 9:30am and picks you up at 5pm, so you really […] can't go at any time. If the description said it before I'll say it again, it's not all inclusive and plus it's not a resort which is why the rate is so cheap. If you just want a nice room to stay in, this is the place. Suites Gaby provided comfortable and reasonably priced accomodations in the center of Cancun. "clean and quiet"
found this place to be a good solution to my needs: a quick stay after flying into cancun and on my way to tulum (my intended destination). hotel quiet, clean, comfortable, good airconditioning and breakfast that was satisfactory (scrambled eggs, chilaquiles, cereal, fruit). preferred this location to the noisy and touristy av. 5 ("fifth avenue" as […] it is commonly referred to) and its senor frogs, starbucks and mcdonald's franchises (note: there are at least 2 mcdonald's and senor frogs each on the strip; either you're a fan or not: i'm of the latter school). however, there are some hole-in-the-wall taco shops a few blocks off the strip which offer delicious .50c tacos. if you want to have a good meal that's neither an edgy joint or an overpriced restaurant on the strip, head to EL FOGON, a few blocks away (on the street opposite to the hotel's entrance on a busy street, make a left and it's a block past wal-mart. opposite side of the road). local place with the odd gringo: good portions, cheap, clean, non-fancy. note: when i asked the front desk clerk (a guy) where el fogon was, he said he didn't know. he instead handed me a business card of another restaurant and said that i would get a free margarita if i went there. he wrote his name of the card first... big read flag. otherwise, great hotel. trust your instincts. just don't fully rely on the people even at your hotel to solely have your best interests in mind. It was very clean and modern. Not a lot of decor. It could use a outlet by the bed, lights are too bright in the bedroom, the water could be a bit hotter and the restaurant Turtle is very bland. The service was great and it is super clean. I would go back again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

It was extremely comfortable and clean. Staff did not give us much information about things to do around, but if you have done your research, this does not really matter. "Cost efficient, comfortable and convenient..."
Suites Gaby is a great spot to stay outside of the hotel zone. if you are a traveler that's not looking for all the bells and whistles, or want to avoid the touristy type places, this is a great option. It was conveniently located close to Market 28, the bus station and a main drag where there was a large selection of great restaurants, karaoke bars […] and night clubs. I was a lone female traveler and had no issues walking from my hotel around this area. Of course caution should always be used at night. The hotel was clean and efficient. The front desk people provided as much information as possible, however they are not well versed at anything in particular. For example: one offered a tour, the other said he couldn't. They are helpful, but if you need details to specific areas, you're on your own. So have a map, plan and guidebook. All in all, you get more than what you pay for in terms of accommodations. I'd stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Suites Gaby was (almost) perfect for our needs; clean, near the bus station, close to restaurants, etc. The folks at the front desk were friendly and helpful. The only downside was a barking dog right outside our window and the very thin walls. Late at night we could hear 'everything' that went on in the room down the hall. Very annoying, as it was […] impossible to sleep. I'm sure others could hear it, as well. Perhaps the management should monitor this type of late-night 'noise' as I'm fairly certain one of the 'guests' was not staying at the hotel. She left around 4 AM. We stayed two nights and had the same problem both nights. The restaurant, 100% Natural, just down the street, was a great breakfast spot. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
