If you're looking for a relaxing, beautiful hotel this is definitely the place to stay. The hotel is decorated beautifully, the rooms are nice, and the food is great (just make sure you make reservations early). We didn't get a chance to go in the water because the surf was really rough, but the beach is really nice, they could use more seating areas […] though. The staff is very helpful, nice, and professional. They also have nightly shows, which are pretty cool! Only drawback is.. the hotel is huge, so if you stay outside of the main building it is a little walk to get to the main lobby (for anyone who has disabilities). Wonderfully constructed facility with superb view and conveniently located. Food and beverage quality and service excellent. Had trouble adjusting A/C to comfortable level. Front desk check-in, information, and check-out processes were very slow although the personnel were courteous and tried their best to be helpful. This was our 2nd stay in 2 years. Did not like some of the Paradisus' improvements. More restaurants but the food was not as good as before. Missed the old TEMPO restaurant. Now it only has a 7 course tasing menu for a $45 per person charge. Hope they change to ala carte menu. Missed the huge lobster tails we used to order there for add'l charge. Really […] missed the La Palapa restaurant for lunch. Now it's just for the Vacation Club members & was closed when we were there. New Taco restaurant was terrific & authentic. Entertainment was so so. The guy & girl who sang in Bana restaurant on Fri. nite were wonderful. The new shower systems are awful. You can't fill the tub with water from the faucet, so you can never take even a sponge bath. There's a round showerhead directly above in the ceiling and then you have a hand sprayer to spray your body. We didn't have any hot water the first 4 days and after that it was intermittent. They said it affected the whole hotel and that they were working on it. If you had small children it would be difficult to bathe them. Having said that, the staff and employees are wonderful, they go out of their way to help you & always with a smile. The lobby and lobby bar are gorgeous and the beach & pools are lovely. The rooms are kept very clean as is the well equipped work out room. Didn't use the spa, but it looked inviting. I'm sure Paradisus will work out any problems with time. Read more

Service around the pools and beach was pretty good and the smaller palapas were free, but the larger cabanna style areas were only available at a higher fee. A lot of the activities that are included (such as windsurfing, kayaking, etc) are only available as specific times so in order to take advantage of them, you have to schedule around the hotel, rather than having it adjust to your needs. We had lots of problem with food. Since we don't eat meat. We didn't have much of a verity. We make request only to get turned down. Also, not enough trademill and other equipments for 750 room property. Also, lot of noise do to some sort of renovation going on above our room and outside. We didn't get bang for our buck.

The paradissus cancun is not as family friendly, especially when it comes to restaurants and activies. also there were not many night shows at the hotel. Hotel: The beach and facilities were great. The room is not huge, but it was ok. The bed was meh- they could upgrade their beds, but it wasn't terrible. The buffet is great, and it's open almost all day (6am-11pm) with 1 hour gaps between meals. The food at the buffet is great (delicious and healthy). They had 4 restaurants where you need a reservation. […] The reservation system works part time. The food at the restaurants are ok, but buffet is probably at the same level of quality, so why wait for service when you can grab your plate and pick whatever you want. People: They are great. They smile, greet you, try to help in whatever way they can. We traveled with a baby, and had special requests - and they never turned us down. Special note to "People": Timeshares! Everyone will try to sell you timeshares. "Hey we have free tickets to the dolphin show" "We can give you discounted tours - just come to our welcome breakfast tomorrow" Don't fall for it. You'll spend some of your valuable vacation time with a presentation, and if you fall for it, you might regret it. Special note to "tours": We wanted to see the Mayan ruins, and we decided to rent a car. When you go with a tour bus, you stop at multiple hotels and some souvenir shops (from what I read elsewhere). Also with a baby we wanted to be flexible. We went to Chichen Itza as early as possible, and toured at our discretion. My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in early November. e enjoyed ur stay. Get an ocean view if you can afford it, great views from the balcony! Very nice barhroom, shower and tub. They are remodeling the lobby area and it will be real nice when done.The beach was nice but the water rough. Everything was perfect, the only problem was that we stayed at the hotel while it was being renovated. Not to much noise... but there was a lot of people working around so it was difficult to be relax while walking or eating at the restaurants inside the hotel.

The hotel was undergoing major renovation during my stay. The name change from Grand Melia Cancun to Paradissus brought the new all inclusive concept with it. All restaurants needed to be made bigger to accommodate the additional eaters. These renovations lasted from 9-5 every day, with sawing drilling, hammering during that time inside and outside […] of the hotel. When its done I'm sure it is a nice place to stay, the food is good and the staff very friendly. Beautiful resort. Very friendly staff. Almost everyone speaks English. I was surprised to find that my room not only didn't have a partial kitchen. But, that if I wanted to use the, very small, refrigerator I was going to be charged $10 a day. Shuttle to and from the airport is very expensive. Use "Yellow Transfer" instead. Very good. visited here about 4 years ago and the quality has remained the same. There are a lot more spanish-only speaking guests and workers which was a bit frustrating during the massage as I wanted the masseuse to apply more pressure and she was not understanding what i wanted. Overall I was treated to a wonderful birthday week at the Gran Melia. The hotel lobby and pool area is beautiful. Our room had a beautiful view of the Caribbean and very private balcony. Our room was ready when we arrived at around 2:00 p.m. and check-in went smoothly. Service was excellent as there was only 1 lounge chair on the balcony and another […] was brought almost immediately upon request as well as repair done to the bathroom door. The beach area is one of the nicest in Cancun and we never had a problem finding a chair. The only complaint my husband and I had was the $200 "resort credit" that was included in our package was not a resort credit at all but rather coupons that were absolutely worthless to us and we didn't use any of them. We stayed at the Gran Melia last year and the $200 resort credit was an actual credit that was taken off our bill at check-out. When I mentioned this to a hotel employee we were offered a Mas Club membership which included a 2 for 1 breakfast buffet each day which was a good deal since their breakfast buffet is too expensive, but is still not a $200 resort credit. We stayed here for 5 days and 4 nights. First visit to Cancun, MX. Gran Melia is spot to stay as it is center of the strip. Beautiful view. Overall a nice hotel; taxis tended to charge more if you get picked up from here so it is better to catch one from the road. The rooms were updated but we had a few issues with the bathrooms that were quickly addressed except for the slow draining tub.

Overall the Hotel was fantastic. There were two things that put me off. First, I couldn't connect to WI-FI unless I paid $20 a day. There was also an option to connect on an hourly basis. Prepare for a long....wait when you checked in. The check in was slow but people is very friendly. When we arrived at 2:30 but the front staff said that our room was not ready so asked us to come back at 3:00. When we came back at 4:00, it took another 30 min to tell us that our room is not ready. We stayed at the Gran Melia the last week of June 2012 and had a good experience. I wouldn't classify it as a great experience because of a few things. First thing, the lobby is beautiful and clean but extremely humid. Every time we stepped out of our room we began to sweat immediately. I know we are on a beach but the lobby should still be air conditioned. […] Second thing, the shower is nice but ours was broken and had to maneuver around it to use it properly. For repeat vacationers, there are some new all inclusive rules in 2012. No beach service period. If you want food or drink, the pool bar opens later now at 11 am. La Perla restaurant opens at 11:30 and only serves a few hot / grilled items. Room service also has an a charge now of about 7 usd per delivery. Also additional charge for some top shelf liquors […] that were previously all included. There were several "trainee" staffers in the pool bar and the main buffet restaurant, which led to long wait times for omlets and drinks. Everyone has to start somewhere. :). To change Usd to pesos the hotel requires your passport and they make a copy of it to submit to the bank with the money. Overall food was excellent, but I felt the service was lacking. Room was clean, bed comfortable, and good AC. Hot water was a little slow to get to the room sometimes, but there was plumbing work overnight one night. I have stayed at this property 4 times, but will Try a different property on my next trip. Read more

Really a nice hotel, everything's not perfect but if it was then it would be a 5 star. Really nice setting, lots of staff that are all friendly and helpful. We did the all inclusive option and I was skeptical as it was a first time for us but other than one waiter who wasn't very good and one overcooked steak, everything else exceeded our expectations. […] The buffet food was really good with lots of options, that was a nice feature and the staff was really nice and usually didn't have to wait long for drinks. We got a free upgrade to the Red Level room and the ocean view was gorgeous. The size of the room is not huge but reasonable.
