I'd recommend this hotel for patient people who will not stay on Saturday. It have great clean beach with fine white sand and awesome waives. Food is really delicious. WiFi is everywhere, even on the beach but it is very slow and acceptable only for basic web browsing (forget about youtube, gaming, and skype with video). The hotel is really great, but […] have at least two pretty illogical things which really irritated me. First is, of course, the Saturday rooms swaps. You have to pack all your luggage until 11am and wait inside your room for bellboy till 12am. Since 11 am your keys are locked, so you can only exit your room. Internet access is also locked since 11 am, even if you are going to stay one more week. Around noon you move to another room. In the SAME time you see that people from your new room are moving to another room too. So you have to wait until ~2 pm to have fresh bedding/towels/cleaning. Minibar will be changed around 4 pm and shampoos/gels will be changed around 5 pm. Nice, huh? The whole Saturday rest is ruined. Second thing is the access to all services. On check in you will get all inclusive bracelet (which scratches skin) and room keys. The room keys are smart and contains all information about you inside: room number, all inclusive status, everything. BUT on each service request you must show you bracelet, say LONG room number, your name, leave tips and sign receipt with total 0 USD because it's all inclusive.And you HAVE TO link credit card to your keys. This is our 5th return to the sands.We purchased our first all inclusive package to the sands due to no availablity with time share exchange.Same staff as the past 5 years. The room was bright and airy. However they are not sound proof. Because of the way they are designed you hear when people walk up and down the hall ways. Room service took 45minutes each time and never had what was ordered. The rooms were not stocked with drinks, coffee or tea and we had to request for them. We stayed in a two bedroom suite with 2 adults and 4 children. The size of the suite was perfect with plenty of room for all of us. We enjoyed the swimming pool with the swim up bar and the lounge chairs along the pool and beach were very nice as well. The service was great and the wait staff was very polite and helpful. The Royal Sands & Spa was a great hotel. The upkeep is fantastic. The staff were friendly. My negatives about the hotel were about the policies. There is a market in the complex in which you couldn't charge any items to your room. The hotel forces you to open up a "line of credit" for items bought within the hotel. You couldn't pay for any items or […] services other than with this line of credit. I had stayed at the hotel in an all-inclusive pkg and the disappointing part is that you always had to tip the staff because not everyone was all-inclusive. We initially weren't happy to find out that we didn't follow the fine print restrictions and weren't going to get the all inclusive deal. It ended up working out for the best as we were able to enjoy a variety of restaurants downtown - which was only a short bus ride from the resort ($1 each way and even cheaper if you are carrying pesos#. The in-house […] supermarket and bakery was extremely convenient as they carried a little bit of everything for cheap. The activities throughout the day were great and there was always something to do for those who can't just lay out by the pool - beach and pool volleyball, tennis, morning water aerobics, painting crafts, etc. The gym was not included although it was available at some rediculous rate per day or for the week #approx $20/day) In regards to the amenities, the room was ok we didn't get a villa. The A/C worked well even though it was loud so that was most important considering how muggy it was outside - all day and night. We also recommend booking an excursion through the in-house travel agent - not to be confused with your consierge which wasn't much help. We went with Selvetica via the recommendations of friends we met at the resort and it was perhaps the highlight of the trip - ziplining, off-roading, swimming, & obstacle ropes course. We had an enjoyable time, the maid service for the room was excellent, loved the breakfast buffet at the restaurant and most of the people were very friendly. I felt like the staff at check in could have been more helpful and friendly - they almost seemed irritated that I was checking in. Other than that the staff was very friendly.

Hotel is actually a time-share facility that normally goes Satruday to Saturday. Rooms herwe are either a one bedroom suite, a two bedroom suite or a single bedroom that would be the second bedroom in a 2BR suite. That's what we had - a single lock-ooff bedroom. We went for just four days - Thu to Mon - and they wanted to move us on Saturday. We said No and they accomodated us. However, that may not be possible for other stays that don't coincide with the time share weeks. The hotel is very clean and very family oriented. The hotel has its own grocery store and it appeared that the majority of meals were consumed in the suites rather than in the restaurants wich were never busy. The food in the hotel's main restaurant - Veranda - was very good for lunch and breakfast. Price for breakfast buffet was $15 PP. Beach was wonderful and there were plenty of palapas for those who desired to get up at around 8:00AM to get settled. Pool was nice too. This is a great place for families or for a group of people - for couples, you can do better elsewhere. Read more

Everything about this hotel was wonderful...with one exception: Our stay was from Wednesday to Wedesday. When we arrive at the hotel we were infomed that we would have to check out Saturday morning & move to another room. Perhaps if we had been told about this prior to booking and paying for our trip, we would have been less annoyed. In my opinion, this hotel should either change their reservation system or notify potential guests, before they book their room that a room change will occur. My husband and I were just there the week before Christmas. Upon arrival, we were told that we have a personal concierge and that person will be helping us throughout our stay. Well, it turned out that we really didn't use much of her service, but she did convince us to attend a timeshares session. The session was a waste of time and one of the sales […] people at Royal Sands was extremely pushy, so it left a bad taste in our month. However, the hotel itself was great with very friendly staff and amazing swimming pools. The room we had was a standard room with a refrigerator, but it was very noisy, so we had to turn it off. We could also hear our next door neighbor especially one night they decided to hold a birthday party. Unfortunately it was the night right before our trip to Chitzhen Itza and we had to get up early, so we made a call to the front desk and complained. There was no more parties after that night, but in general, we could hear our neighbors (from upstairs & next door) and especially when they moved their chairs. Therefore, for people who really prefer a quiet hotel room, Royal Sands is not it. We truly loved their services and the swimming pools, so we would recommend the hotel to anyone who doesn't care about noise, but we will try a different hotel next time. Read more

We spent 1 night at the Royal Sands in preparation for an early morning flight. We'd spent the previous week in a beach hut. After a week of hot and humid temperatures, we welcomed the Royal Sands air conditioning. Swimming in the pool without being pummeled by the Caribbean surf was another great part of the hotel. The third great part was the friendliness […] and helpfulness of the staff. The hotel itself felt like a little America (my apologies to readers who aren't American.) It had shops, restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy, spa, and a doctor. The room even had a television with English-speaking programs. It would be possible to spend a week there without leaving the resort. This may be an attraction to some. But for me personally, I didn't like the inclusiveness of the hotel, as it was too far removed from the local area and people. I enjoyed the aircon and the pool and the staff, but felt too insulated from the rest of the world. I would stay there again if I had to spend the night in Cancun, but not for an extended stay. This is just a personal preference, though - it was a great place if you just want to lay in the sun and relax. I would recommend looking for other restaurants, though. We had two meals at the terrace restaurant. They were two of the most expensive meals of our trip, but the food was very average. I wouldn't eat there again, unless there were no other options. But the staff were brilliant! I rated the condition of our room at a '3' because there were also a few minor mechanical problems with our room. The refrigerator had an unpleasant whine and the bathtub stopper didn't work. We just lived with it, though, and didn't ask for help. Had a wonderful holiday in a great hotel (Royal Sands). About the attractions - most are "touristtraps" but some are great like the daytrip to Isla Contoy (a National Reserve/Park). Depending what you are looking for the evening/night trips with dinner and drinks can be a bit crazy but generally fun! Watch out for "Apartment Time-Share" meetings/presentations […] - most of them are scam - big time! The resturants at the Kukulkan strip are generally very good both from a service and food perspective. We didn't find any reason to go Cancun downtown although we did it once and had a great evening but that was also true for resturants outside and close to the hotel area. If important it's easy to decrease your spending by just some innovative approach instead of asking the hotel to serve. Only on the trip to the airport we save 25$ just to book a taxi by one of the outside agents instead of going with the hotel service. Have fun - it's easy in Cancun Read more
