Chisun Hotel Ueno

Room and hotel were adequate, clean, comparable to other basic hotels in Tokyo. Staff OK, good wi-fi in lobby area. Location OK, walking distance to Ueno station but not much else in area. Not my first choice, but available during busy holiday weekend.

The hotel was clean and safe, the staff was helpful and courteous. There was one staff member who spoke decent English (somewhat limited) and other who knew a little English. The location was good at perhaps 8-10 minutes from Ueno station and a Starbucks coffee shop. About 4 or 5 minutes away there was a mom and pop shop that sold Musubi (triangular […] rice balls) and some sushi rolls, a 24 hour grocery store, and a coin laundry (laundromat). My group left Tokyo for a three day trip with return reservations at the Chisun Hotel Ueno and asked the hotel to hold our large bags until we returned, which they did at no additional charge. All in all I recommend this hotel for the budget minded traveller who is looking for a clean place to sleep that is safe and functional. The rooms are small but then this IS Tokyo after all. The hotel was clean, convenient, staff was helpful and efficient. Rooms were a bit small, but not by Japanese standards. Coin laundry and market near by. Ginza line subway stop within a couple of blocks. Terrific mom and pop musubi shop around the corner for breakfast, lunch or a quick snack. Great deal for the price. I would stay there again.

This hotel was recommended to me by a friend, as he had stayed here several months prior on his own vacation in Tokyo. The rooms are small, but that's to be expected in many hotels in Tokyo that aren't luxury hotels. As long as you're expecting that, you won't be disappointed in your stay. Ok, pros first. The hotel is close to transportation and is in a very quiet neighborhood with high concrete walls and lots of trees. The staff was very kind and didn't hesitate to change my room upon my request. Room was small but adequate for a single traveler like me. Comes with an electric tea pot, tea, robe, and a generous reserve of toiletries. […] After an uncomfortable paranormal experience my first night (which I refuse to detail in this review), I asked for a new room on a different floor for the next two nights and it was okay. I had seen a couple reviews beforehand about the room windows being locked and frosted, and I didn't figure out until my last day there that the hotel is planted amongst a graveyard (which explains the blocked view from the room as well as potentially my really strange first night). I am no stranger to Japan and expected a small room, but the big, black scuff marks along the right side wall were a real disappointment. Otherwise the room was clean. The bathroom was tiny but functional and I did enjoy the deep bath after showering. The bed was supposed to accommodate myself and my 17 yr old daughter, but it was an extremely tight […] fit. Location was close to Ueno Station and we had no problem navigating from Narita to the hotel. We took the Skyliner for approximately 24 USD per person. Nice trip to and from Tokyo. Note: The Skyliner takes you to the Ueno (Narita) Station just North of the main Ueno Station. The room served its purpose, but it was definitely not ideal for down time, given the tiny dimensions. This place is a great deal and convenient to public transportation and to Naritz airport. The staff was helpful as well. The room is small but sufficient for a short stay. I don't consider myself very particular about beds, but I found this one uncomfortably hard and found myself waking up frequently.

...everything's cool. It was a bit hard to find this hotel because the sign wasn't illuminated, but it is about a 10 minute walk from JR Ueno Station. I had a backpack and rollaboard and didn't find the walk that arduous.

This hotel is very convenient to Asakusa and Kappabashi, the famous cook ware area in Ueno. As usual, train service is excellent although it is a bit of a walk to get there. It is located in a primarily residential area so it was quiet. It is a typical business hotel, designed to be economical and efficient.

An average hotel in a quieter area of Tokyo, near park and musems. Not in the best part of town as the homeless tend to hang out around the park, but I never felt unsafe being a lone female traveler. The hotel can be quiet difficult to find, even for cab drivers so be sure you know the address and an idea where it located.

Hi , It was a good hotel , if your on a budget. Clean, comfortable . wifi in lobby. Very quiet . Staff were very good . I had a single room , which was small , its hard to leave your case open , that was the only thing . About a 10 to 15 minutes walk to Ueno station . I found a supermarket around the corner 5 minutes.

Hotel is within 5 minutes’ walk of Ueno station and multiple convenience stores. Natural history museum, zoo and art galleries etc are just the other side of the station and central Tokyo is only a few minutes by train. This is the second time I have stayed here. The location is very handy, right by the train station. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are lovely. The only let down is that you need to lug your bags up a few steps to reach the lobby and lift.

Chisun Hotel Ueno was a 10 minute walk to the major railway station and a 2 minute walk to the subway. It was only a 10 minute walk to Yoddabashi Dougo Dori - the kitchen/restaurant supplies street and 2.9km from Tokyo Skytree. Ueno Park with it's zoo and multitude of museums was also a 15 minute walk away. 5 to 10 minute from Ueno station but 3 minutes from Inaricho metro. Lawson and Post Office nearby. Inside the single room is small but enough to put a baggage. Toilet bowl comes with a Washlet. Quiet and peaceful. Staff know some English. Not signs to lead you to the hotel, I got GPS to guide me. Overall, good!

The room was small (but that is standard for Tokyo) We managed to fit 2 large bags comfortably. the room itself was extremely clean and we had fresh towels and cleaning service daily. The hotel is located just off the main road, and only about 200 metres walk from the JR Ueno sation. The area always felt very safe and there is a range of restaurants and small convenience stores close by. The Ueno markets are a must see while you are in the area, also the park on the other side of the tracks have many temples and shrines to visit.
