Historically the district where feudal lords lived during the Tokugawa Shogunate, this area is now home to many global businesses, including Sony headquarters. It also holds Sengaku-ji Temple, the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, and the city’s second-largest train station. West of the station is Takanawa, an upscale residential neighborhood.

Room was large by Japanese standards, clean, and comfortable except for A/C which worked weakly. Location is close to Shinagawa station (5 min walking distance and there is shuttle bus if you not want to walk.) There are also buses to Heneda and Narita airport from hotel lobby. Breakfast area was small - expect lines on weekends.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

I really enjoyed my stay. One reviewer gave me a heads up on how to enter the hotel through the sister hotel and walk through garden, Very helpful. It meant I didn"t have to climb up that hill twice a day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient location and excellent service"
This hotel is conveniently located for easy access to all parts of Tokyo and the airports since Shinagawa Station is only 8-minute away. Hotel staffs are very professional, friendly and helpful. They provided us with excellent service. We had a superior twin room with garden view. This room is spacious. Beds are firm and comfortable. Bathroom is large […] and clean. The amenities include: shampoo set, tooth brush set, disposable razor, bathrobe, slippers, shower cap, comb and hair dryer; cotton swabs, ladies' personal care accessories; safe, electric kettle and tea bags, as well as a small fridge. "Fabulous week at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa"
I spent a week at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa and was very pleased with my experience. The hotel is lovely and the grounds between the sister hotel are spectacular, simply spectacular. Such a surprise to find this lovely oasis in the middle of bustling Tokyo. The hotel is very conveniently located as it is an easy walk to the Shinagawa metro station […] and the station is surrounded by great stores and restaurants. I only ate twice at the hotel...once at the incredible steak house where the Kobi beef melted in my mouth, and the other time in the lovely french restaurant where the service and food was impeccable. The concierge arranged two tours and my airport pick (left too early for the airport limousine/train) and I was very pleased with this attention. All in all.....I LOVE Tokyo and when, not if.., I return I will stay at the Grand Prince again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice place to stay close to Shinagawa trainstation"
In general our stay was comfortable in this hotel. Proximity to the Shinagawa train station and shuttle service was certainly great help. We decided to walk to station when there was no laguage. We could take shuttle when there was laguage. It would be nice if they had reasonably priced breakfast buffet. We had to walk to another hotel to get good […] breakfast at almost half the price. Swimming pool was closed. Kids would have loved to spend time at pool in evening Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great time!"
Great room for a reasonable price. I had a panoramic view of the city of Tokyo through my window. Everyday I strolled down the wonderful garden that connected the different Grand Prince Hotels from Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa. The staff were friendly and most of them could communicate in English. The Shinagawa subway station's just 3-minutes walking […] distance away from the hotel, a convenient way to commute. The hallway in going to the rooms smelled a bit musty, although, this went away while passing through. I think the hallway needed a little renovation to remove the musty odor. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone for comfort and convenience. I would like to stay again in this hotel in the near future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Dated, but comfortable and great location"
I had stayed here about 5 years ago, so when I booked this time I knew what to expect. This hotel is a bit dated - the lobby and architecture makes you think it is 1972. The rooms are comfortable, but also a tad dated compared to the latest business hotels in the same area (like the Intercontinental Strings). However it is at least half the cost of […] that hotel, and I think a fair tradeoff. The location is just a 1.5 blocks from Shinagawa station, and a great place for business. The garden next to it is amazing, and I think makes up for the datedness of the lobby. Overall I think this hotel is a great trade-off for price/comfort/location for doing business in the Tokyo area. One caveat: The "free" internet is ONLY for WIRED internet. If you want WIFI it costs extra. I was okay with this, but I saw other guests in the hotel who were a put off by this. "A convenience location to the train station"
The Hotel and staff is very nice the room is clean and specious, The reason why I will not recommend to friend is due to we have to walk a 10min slope up back to the hotel which I personal feel very tired. I don't have much commend on the staff, because i not a demanding person.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Spacious rooms and good hotel"
Got room on 14th floor with view of Tokyo skyline and a tower that looked like Eiffel tower. The garden is pretty and the room was much bigger than other Prince hotels I stayed. Buffet breakfast is more expensive. The walk to Shinagawa station is a pain if you have luggage. I learnt just while leaving that the hotel has bus shuttle to Shinagawa station […] (for free??). "Near Shinagawa Station"
This hotel is right across the street (about a 5 minute trek uphill) from Shinagawa station, which was the huge selling point for me. Shinagawa station has access to the JR lines across Tokyo and also the Shinkansen bullet trains to other cities. The electronic toilet was a bonus.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good price, decent location"
Room size is typical for a Tokyo hotel, maybe a little more space for the money (I have not stayed in enough Tokyo hotels to know for sure). Location was fine for me, train station is walking distance. Some have mentioned the inconvenience of the incline walking to/from the hotel, but if you're slightly active, it's no problem at all. Plenty of food […] nearby, this was never an issue. The sites in the area are somewhat skim, but if you take the train, most tourist sites are accessible via the same line. "Hotel Takanawa"
A large modern hotel in a very good location that is a moderate walk through its sister hotel to a large train station. Drawbacks are the lack of workout center or swimming pool. These can be arranged, but for a considerable expense. The hotel's restaurant was also expensive and smokey.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Value in Tokyo!"
Although outside the city center, the hotel is relatively close to a metro station and is also right down the street from a shinkansen station, in case you are traveling to other cities in Japan. The neighborhood is a little suburban, but it provides a quiet environment in which to relax after a day of sightseeing. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful, […] and although the room was a little small, it was clean and well-kept. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Quiet Hotel not too far from station"
Takanawa Prince is located on top of a hill about 1 kilometers from the Shinagawa subway station. It takes me about 7 minutes to walk up the hill. They do not offer a shuttle from station to hotel, but they do offer from hotel to station. frequency is about every 20 minutes, and reservation at the concierge is required. As with all Japanese hotels, […] service is excellent. When you arrive, they will take your bags, and escort you inside to check in. After the paperwork, they will take your luggage and show you to your room (if you wish). Japan as a whole does not accept tips, so just say a good "thank you". The hotel has a few restaurants, but since the other three Prince Hotels (Shinagawa, Sakura Tower, and New Takanawa) are neat by you get alot of choices. Not to mention within and surrounding of the Shinagawa station has countless type of restaurants as well. I've gotten all the room types except for the Japanese futon suites. The garden view rooms are my favorite. Though the standard queen room facing the other side has a perfect view of the Tokyo Tower at night which is very nice. The only complaint I have is that the AC does not work as fast as it should. Often times even on "high" it takes well over 30 minutes to cool down a bit. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel is a good size and staff is uniformly courteous and helpful. Because the hotel is amid a complex of other Prince hotels, there is sufficient choice and variety. Close to Shinagawa station, returned from Mt Fujii tour by bullet train, came out of station and restaurants for dinner close by. Had no need for any other transportation needs except walking. Beautiful gardens. Enjoyed […] the breakfast buffet. For their "green" housekeeping service earned credit of 2000 yen which we used for breakfast. Complimentary umbrellas it rained a couple of days. Great ramen close by at Shinagawa station. Most staff spoke enough English so we could communicate. Some of them spoke really good English. Comfortable room. Enjoyed the bidet in the toilet. "Thank goodness for bus jetty"
The hotel was beautiful but little off the beaten track which was nice as then there was room for beautiful gardens. However, it is in a hilly area so walking could be a little difficult in the hot, humid weather we had while there. There is a jetty from the train station which we used. However, you have to know where to line up. A few times, we were […] there first, standing and waiting, and then when jetty came, we realized a line had formed a few feet from us and they headed for bus. We had to "cut" in front of people which made us look rude but we had been there for quite awhile. You have to made reservations for trip down to station - easy to do with bellhop - but coming back you have to wait in the line. Only other negative about hotel was, we could hear hall corridor noises - people talking in hall in early morning. However, we would recommend this hotel and stay here again should be return to Tokyo. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The first room they had me in was small and "regular ", it ended up being very smelly and when I pointed this out to the manager I was put into a very large and very bright room where I spent the remaining 4 nights. "Standard hotel in quiet area"
It was my first time being in Tokyo and this hotel seemed cheapest for this standard. The location is not bad, it is a 5 minute walk up a hill which can be very tiring after a long day but it is in a quieter area than say Shinjuku, so depends on preference. It is close to Shinagawa station and hence, easily able to reach almost anywhere in Tokyo via […] public transport. Staff were lovely, always helpful, spoke good English and gave us advice on all of our queries. Some reviews here talked about the outdated decor, and the contrast to the lobby and it is pretty stark at first (the lobby is very very nice compared to rooms) but I wasn't fussed about it at all and overall, it was a comfortable stay. I probably wouldn't stay here if I had to pay the full price (we got a cheaper deal here) and if you are going to be spending heaps of time around Shinjuku etc as it is a 15-20 minute train ride away. A very good hotel set in a Japanese garden. Excellent area for restaurants and easy transport links. Location does keep you fit as it is up a hill! The staff were efficient and friendly. "5 mins from Shinagawa Station"
A bit pricey but a convenient stay. 5 minutes from Shinagawa Station which also has the shinkansen service. The service was nice and they speak English. The interior could do well and be refurnished, but nothing really to complain about. I could see the Tokyo Tower from my room and it was beautiful to see at night. Nice hotel with a decent sized room. Great view of Tokyo tower and surrounding skyline from the room. Room was as expected neat, tidy and clean. Less than 5 minute walk to Shinagawa train station but sadly uphill on the way to the hotel. Not a huge amount to do in the surrounding area but if you have a JR Pass then the Shinagawa train station is on […] the Yamamote line that you can use. Also you can walk to the Shinagawa Prince shopping complex. The hotel has a good system where you can elect to not have your room cleaned if you stay more than 2 nights. Each time you don't have your room cleaned you get a JPY1000 voucher to spend at the hotel's restaurants or stores. However, you must have your room cleaned every 3 days. "Great hotel, handy location and extremely nice staff."
Great hotel, handy location and extremely nice staff. Hotel was well presented. The room was small, but of a reasonable size for Japan. The staff were extremely friendly, efficient and helpful. It is a 5 min walk to the Shinagawa stations, although it is uphill heading towards the hotel. Very safe to walk around at night. Shinagawa station is very […] handy as it is on the JR Yamanote line, plus it has trains from Narita (N'Ex), the Shinkensen (to Kyoto) and the Keikyu railway to Haneda. There is an ATM that accepts VISA in one of the adjacent company hotels. Would definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Best bargain for a four star hotel"
We stayed at this hotel and the Shinagawa area for the first time and were very pleased. The hotel was more than we expected given some of the previous reviews. The service was very professional, the hotel was well maintained and it had a very "upscale" feeling without feeling snobby. Our room was fine and was what we asked for, very neat and clean. […] The most amazing thing about the hotel was the garden that is shared by the surrounding hotels, it was a huge green space with a large koi pond. We cut through the other Prince Hotels and found them to be very nice as well, some larger and a little more modern than the Grand Takanawa. Nonetheless, we would rather stay at the Grand as it is a little more quiet. There are plenty of amenities around the hotel and the walk to the station is really not that bad. We took the hotel shuttle a few times and after that we just walked the short distance. The Shinagawa station is very convenient and it is easy to get around from this location. The price we paid for this hotel could not be beat and we would definitely stay here again. My only gripe would be the high cost of the lounge and restaurants at this hotel, way too expensive.
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
