I've stayed in Montego Bay and Runaway Bay over 8 times. This hotel is my favorite. It's not a mega-big resort....very relaxing and spread out. The cottages or the suite building are best. AVOID THE COURTYARD ROOMS....they are simplified hotel rooms and not nearly as nice as the courtyard bungalow or the all-suite building. This was our third stay there. Our stays before this were four and five years ago. We loved the place this time just as much as we had in the past. The cottages were cozy and clean. We were on the east side of the resort at first and it was rather noisy, so we changed our cottage to the west side, and it was wonderful. The food and drinks were very […] good. The Mento band at noon was fun and we danced after lunch a few times. The house band at night was great and we did a lot of dancing to them also. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Royal Decameron Club Carribbean! Everyone was very friendly and made us feel welcome from the minute we walked through the door, especially the fun crew (Scooby, Crazy, Nemo, Candy, Princess, and Baby Rasta)! We went for our anniversary, but there were a few families as well. We never had difficulty finding spot on […] the beach or wait to be seated at a restaurant. It is a small resort, so several staff will recognize you after a couple of days. The cottages provided a lot of privacy, and was quite peaceful through the night (except for the mornings they sprayed for bugs). This only happened twice at 6:30am, but was very quick. The food was good, even my "picky-eater-of-a-husband" never went hungry and the buffet rotated themes every night so that they aren't serving the same foods over and over. The hotel has an overall relaxed atmosphere, but there were plenty to do for the active lifestyles as all motorized and non-motorized activities are included. You could definitely relax by the sea or experience a variety of Jamaica has to offer... several famous sights to see are within 30-45 minutes from this resort (Dunns River Falls, Martha Brae River, Mystic Mountain Adventure, Nine Mile)! Advice- See the travel reps the morning after you arrive to set up any tours you may do... our representative only worked 9:30-12:00, and some tours do not run everyday! After reading about 50 reviews, we decided to give this place a try. We were not disapointed at all. The staff was exceptional, always on top of things. We picked a villa for our stay and it was the best choice. They are cute with vaulted bamboo ceilings, a full closet and complete bathroom. Unlike some places where you have to walk through the entire resort to get to the beach, this place has access to the beach from all angles. That was perfect. When I first contacted Royal Decameron I was interested in whether there was an adults only swimming area. They said yes, however, when we got there kids were playing all around the pool area. While the rooms were clean, there was much to be desired in the quality of the room. There was light coming through the doors and the roof shingles. The shower […] curtain was place too far into the tub area so that it stuck to you as you showered. There wasn't a refrigerator in the room. They provided 1 liter of drinking water for a 1 week stay. The WIFI to get internet service did not always work and the service was out for 2 and a half days. The food was so mediocre to bad that we hated to go at meal time towards the end. There was hardly any taste to the desserts. The salad dressings were very watery and did not taste very good. We often had to get our own coffee or water. Service in the dining area was below par for even a 2 star hotel. We talked to people who had been there many times and they said that they would not be back. Entertainment was awful. When I showed up it was very refreshing not to be billed extra for maid service or anything else while I was there. My friend and I checked in and all was taken care of immediately. The butler took our bags to our personal private love hut...it was wonderful! The food was very good for the most part. It really is all inclusive...room service, food, drinks, pool amenities, recreational equipment, gym, nightly entertainment shows, all without having to do anything but have your wristband on..you can put your wallet away until you go home. Only pocket expense was for some tours we took. This place will truly get whatever is bothering you off your mind and let you RELAXX!!! I would recommend this place highly due to the proximity to Ocho Rios and Dunn's River Falls. And definitely go to Dolphin Cove. The interactive experience with the dolphins is something you will remember for a lifetime. The setting was right for romance. on arrival at hotel @2:50pm we were told we would be checked-in at precisely 3:00pm. We waited ....and @ 3:05pm enquired how soon we would be checked in so we could rest up from a tiring day of travel....only to be told they were checking to see if our room was ready. I was annoyed by this and told them as much. we were asked to wait another 10 minutes […] for them to sort out whatever was the problem...... Eventually we were checked into a room....but fresh paint fumes either from the room or nearby was affecting my wife who is troubled with sinusitis. We requested a room change which took too long to happen in my estimation....and got one that was not properly prepared for guests...it didn't even have a chair in it!! The rest of the amenities were fine. But the initial interaction with the hotel raised a small dark cloud on an otherwise enjoyable stay. The place is incredible! There is a quiet spot if you need it at any time but plenty of activities especially with a shuttle to the neighboring resort in case you need a change of scenery. There is nothing much to see in the town. This is a resort you visit just to hang out at a resort. Great time!

My husband and I just returned 1/23/2012 from 8 days in Jamaica first staying at the Club Caribbean. I booked a bungalow garden view and received a room (506) in the "apartments". We had a lovely large deck outside, but inside the water pressure was dreadful. We never knew if we were going to get scalded from the hot water or not have any at all. The […] toilet overflowed twice, once out into our bed because the refill line had so much pressure it was squirting out the top. They definately cater to the French! They didn't seem to bother us as we made the best of it. The workers were wonderful! Devon is great! The jetty bar was a blast. Now the great part! We had the opportunity to spend a day at the new resort they just recently acquired, Fun Caribbean! YOU WANT TO STAY AT THIS RESORT!!! We able spent the last 2 days of our vacation at this resort. 3 large pools, water slides, great snorkeling, all kinds of water sports and great drinks (take your own plastic glass w/lid and straw you can get at any Target/Walmart, etc). They speak and entertain in English, which was much appreciated. The food variety was much better at this resort. The downfall, we like to tip all who assist us, we arrived on Sat. and they did not have any money and would not get any until Monday, which we left at 6am! That was the only dissappointing aspect of the stay. Request to stay at the newest resort. We will return to Fun Caribbean, but definately not the other. Hope this helps. Read more

I can not say enough about how friendly the staff was in Run Away Bay Royal Decameron! the cabana's were romantic yet simple. Waking up to an ocean view ....priceless. We will DEFIANTLY return. This was our honeymoon, so we enjoyed the quiet town. Having said that, we like to party and have a good time, so meeting friends and making our own party on […] the beach was great. If you are wanting dance clubs etc. this might not be the place for you. We stayed our last 2 nights in Montego Bay at the Royal Decameron for the convenience to the airport .However, while the beach was nicer the staff just didn't get it. My only tip for this hotel is that they should send all of the staff from Montego Bay to Run Away Bay so they can train Montego staff on how to be friendly and kind while having FUN while they work. The remainder of our stay consisted of watching the Glass Bottom Boat sinking while anchored just off the coast and the lifeguards and management staff pulling it ashore. The very next day the Speed Boat sank in the exact same spot and a rescue boat had to hall it to the harbor. The food was fresh but average and lacked flavor. Once you say No thank you, they will leave you alone. The food was OK. We liked the lunch better than the dinners. I believe that the hotel was fairly full, but until the meals, you hardly hear or see many people. The hotel was very quiet. The only downside was the noise at night. I don't know if it came from the entertainment of the hotel or the houses next to the hotel. They played music very loud until 2 or 3 in the morning. If we go back to Jamaica, we will go to the same hotel but in Montego Bay. For transportation, travel with the Knutsford Express they are much cheaper than taxis.
