If you're an adventurer looking for an extremely reasonable, clean and quiet accommodation central to Dunn's River Falls and other St. Ann attractions then - The Silver Seas IS for you. Yes, it is an older hotel that needs some work, […] but let me stress to you: 1# IT IS A CLEAN HOTEL, 2) it is maybe a two star, but it's not falling apart around your ears either and 3) the staff is most pleasant, helpful and hospitable. It made me think of the times I stayed with poor country relatives. They might not have the newest or nicest, but the stay was gracious and cozy. The room was spacious albeit spartan. Don't go looking for the usual things #e.g. coffee maker, clock, iron, hair dryer, in-room phone or internet). The hotel has no entertainment crew, but there is plenty of entertainment in downtown Ocho Rios - either at locals' spots or at Margaritaville. All within walking distance. Bottom line...if this isn't your first rodeo and you want a clean, quiet place to stay while taking in the local sites, then give the Silver Seas a shot. We had a lovely patio that overlooked the ocean. We would watch the cruise ships coming and going as well as the party boats that passed each day on their way to Mohagany Beach. We had a very clean swimming pool to swim in with a nice sunbathing area as well. The bartender, Barry, was very nice and friendly. He made great Bloody Mary's. The maid service […] was excellent and efficient. However, they would take the towels and not replace them until later in the day. We did ask the desk clerk if we could get a second chair for our patio and a remote that worked on our TV and we did not get either of those things or an explanation. On the other hand, we did not have a refrigerator in our room, so they lent us a cooler so I would have a cool place to store my insulin. We enjoyed our room so much that if we go to Jamaica again, we will probably only stay at the Siver Seas. Also, the meals that we ate ate the restaurant were excellent. A very run down place in front of a spectacular reef. The reason for such a low rating is the result of the disrespect we received from Lenny, the operator of water excursions in the hotel. After consistently being hassled for days we rented a kayak. After paying, he presented us with a withered kayak, ensuring us of its quality and safety. After 30min […] in it we realized tape was floating next to the kayak. Lenny had used tape on the inside to secure the top half to the bottom. Within a matter of a minute we cap-sized, and the kayak sank. We lost several items including a camera. We did managed to drag the boat to shore, but we had to swim over shallow reefs; resulting in numerous gashes and stings (including fire coral). We washed up at Hermosa Cove, where the wonderful staff/owners came to our aid and helped us get back to Silver Seas. Initially, Lenny promised to return our money, but within ten minutes became extremely hostile and disrespectful, informing us he would not return our money. This argument occurred in the hotel lobby, and not once did the staff assist us, give us first aid, they just watch without a care in the world. After some time, in an even more deranged manor he claimed that the oars and life vests were missing and thus no refund. All a lie for we later returned to the beautiful Hermosa Cove, to thank the staff, and all the stuff was there. They informed us he had never come by. When we return to Jamaica we wont stay anyplace else, but Hermosa Cove. Read more

It is close to the water but there isn't a beach - just a tiny strip of sand next to a cement barrier and then the ocean. Service is non-existent. Prepare to sit at least 30 minutes in the "restaurant" before anyone even realizes you are there. Actual food service takes another hour and the food is not good. The bathroom is gas station quality. Not clean. They provide one towel and one tiny soap. If you want shampoo, they send you to the store to buy your own. Amazing view once you get there. The best snorkeling and diving is right out the front steps. We watched all the other tours bring their boats to the reefs in front of the hotel. Hotel needed some fix -up -lots of potential -beautiful location -view to die for. Would be nice if they had a few upgrades ie coffee maker and a small fridge. Myself and my 3yr old daughter stayed here. PROS: The location was key. Loved the balcony and view of the beach. The price was wonderful. Room was nice and spacious, Staff was nice and my child liked them. Check in was fast and no problemss. I enjoyed my relaxing stay. CONS: No telephone in room. The Bed was not that comfortable and pillows were thin, […] the beach was not accessible for my child. You have to climb down stairs to get in the beach. While the pool was not crowded with people it was crowded with leaves and needed to be cleaned. My daughter didn't seem to mind. I didn't see anyone serving at the bar or serving food but I was told the do have a restaurant. If you are not high maintainence or looking to party and just need a place to rest this is the place for you but If you are looking to be pampered then go else where. We loved The Silver Seas and found it to be a great value for the money. Because of the high ceiling, the room feels very spacious. We found it to be very clean, even the little balcony, which had a lovely view of the trees and the sea. The immediate area of sea by the hotel had the most amazing place for snorkeling, especially for beginners or not […] as confident swimmers like me as the water was very clear, shallow, and it had a nice sandy bottom. It was exceptionally calm, even when the rest of the sea was rough. The linens are a bit worn, and the mattress not the best, but I found it more comfortable than the other places we stayed. The doorknob to the bathroom was loose and the outer door had a lock with a chain link but I probably wouldn't leave any valuables in the room. A safe is available at the front desk. The balcony doors have just a simple lock on as well. The outer hallway (like a motel) was not lit at night and was very dark. A small stand selling soda, alcohol, chips and cigarettes is within a few steps and available at late night in case you need a snack. The restaurant on sight did not have many options because they were out of groceries but I think if you gave them some notice everything would be fine(i.e. a family of 4 wants breakfast tomorrow or a supper that same evening). There were very few other guests at this time and I don't think they kept much on hand for that reason. The food was average. The staff was all extremely pleasant and helpful. The hotel was located within walking distance of the local produce market (don't be scared by the outer appearance, it is safe to go there), a major grocery store, the craft markets, and restaurants. We did not use the pool but it looked nice.There is no sand at the beach but as mentioned, the snorkeling was great. I would recommend this hotel for families and any one on a budget. It is not very high end but an extremely good value for what you get. It is simple, clean and affordable. Read more
