"Pretty Good hotel for Europe"
Overall, we were pleased with the hotel. It had a great complimentary breakfast in the morning, and access to wi-fi, which were two of the most important things for us. It was farther away from the main sites, but the metro stop was just a 1 minute walk, and termini station was a 5 minute walk. "Good price, but be careful of the neighborhood"
This isn't a terribly fancy hotel, but it actually exceeded my expectations (relative to what I paid). The bathroom was quite spacious and in good condition, and even the bed was fairly comfortable, though it looked pretty old. My main complaints were that the air conditioning didn't work -- this wasn't a huge issue since I happened to be there on a […] relatively cool night, but I could easily see it being a problem for others who were less fortunate -- and the front desk service was a little abrupt. There was also no wi-fi available, which is something they should remedy. Also: the neighborhood near the train station isn't great at night, so bear that fact in mind if you're coming in late (as I did). "A good bargain in Rome"
We stayed here in July 2011. The hotel is convenient to central Rome, The Metro and Stazione Termini. There are lots of restaurants nearby however it can be very noisy at night. I picked the Best Western Hotel Villafranca in Rome based on the proximity to the main train station, the chain affiliation, and the price. The hotel is about 4-5 blocks away from the train station and is convenient to most sites. It has a rather small front entrance and if you aren't careful you might miss the small Best Western sign. It helped to […] look on Google Maps to get a preview of the front entrance. Everyone on the hotel staff I dealt with spoke English. The front desk helped me out on a few occasions. The room rate was very reasonable, and it had a working AC unit (very important during my July visit!). The one downside of the room was the shower, it was a small corner stall with 2 overlapping doors with the opening in the corner of the stall. I think some larger people would have a problem trying to use this shower. The breakfast buffet was good, lots of variety with eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, cereal, breads, coffee, juice, and so on. The Villafranca is really handy for the Metro and the main Termini station, which makes getting to the historical sites really easy. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. About 500m from Termini Station, an easy walk. Pleasant, english speaking staff, superb breakfast. Our room and bathroom, possibly all, had been recently renovated. You can walk to all the Rome attractions, you can do a hop on/ hop off or you can subway it. We walked. Easy. C'è qualche difetto di manutenzione nel bagno - piccole cose - , segno forse di una certa trascuratezza nei particolari. Il frigo bar della camera è vuoto: un cartello rimanda ad un distributore automatico in corridoio - con analoghi prezzi, però ! - . La colazione è varia, anche se non all'altezza di un hotel a 4 stelle, con alcune pietanze impresentabili - es.: insaccati - . Il personale di reception è molto cortese e disponibile, anche nei particolari. Il tutto si stempera alquanto alla positiva luce della location: fuori della porta dell'albergo ci sono sia la fermata della Metro B "Castro Pretorio", sia quella dell'autobus 492 che porta in pieno centro.
