The world's smallest country, Vatican City is dominated by St Peter's, Christendom's largest church. Michelangelo's humbling 'Pietà' and his Sistine Chapel ceiling frescos are among the world's greatest works of art. The Aurelio area is named after the ancient Via Aurelia, the main road that connected Rome with Spain, and is convenient for visiting the city's sights.

The hotel was old world European. Amazing view to the Vatican the extremely close. Just a 5 minute walk away. It was an average/nice hotel. Rooms were small. Air Conditioning was not working. Luckily we had cool nights. Before booking, I'd make sure you confirm the AC was working. It would have been intolerably hot if it was in the Summer.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The location of the hotel is perfect - just a short distance from San Pietro and close to all forms of transportation. The cleanliness of the hotel was perfect. "Ok hotel by European standards"
Not a bad hotel for an older European city (i.e. it was what I was expecting). Rooms are on the small side, but big enough if you are travelling alone or with your spouse (and don't have a ton of luggage). This is not a 4 star hotel as you would find in the states, make sure you understand that going into it and you won't be disappointed. My room had […] a mini-bar but no ironing board, go figure. The hotel has wifi, but you must pay for it and coverage in the lobby/bar-area is suspect (but no issues at all in my room). The safe in my room was broken which was a major inconvenience. The staff is courteous and pleasant. The only issue I had was the free shuttle pickup at the airport. My flight was late and it took an hour to get my luggage and the driver did not wait - the result was that I had to wait at the airport for almost 2 hours for him to come back. While the hotel charges for a shuttle back to the airport, it is cheaper than it would be to take a cab. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel was great. The room was a little small by American standards, but that is what I expected. The staff was friendly and always willing to help us with whatever we needed. The hotel was very clean and comfortable.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great location"
The hotel was nice with a great location just 5 blocks walking from St. Peter' basilica....The breakfast was great and the rooms were clean. The only thing that wasn't great was their airconditioner...it worked but it could have been cooler, but on the same note it was hard to find a place in Rome were you could find a real cool airconditioner cooling […] well. "Disappointing Experience"
The rooms were an ok size considering European standards. There was no bathtub in the bathroom. The beds were VERY HARD and so were the pillows, not 4 star quality! The location was great. A couple of the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, while others were rude and seemed inconvenienced by questions. You have to walk up a small flight of stairs […] upon entering the hotel to get to the lobby and it is not stroller/wheelchair friendly. The one elevator in the hotel was small and could barley fit 4 people. You have to pay for internet and the food was sub-par. Breakfast was disappointing, meat, cheese and bread for breakfast? Dry cereal and no milk? Even though the booking said breakfast was not included, it must have been because the one day we ate there, we were not charged. And we were not able to eat at the restaurant for dinner due to lack of communication by the staff. The desk staff said you just need to go up there while the restaurant staff says you need a reservation. Overall, it's in a good location, but I would not stay there again nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone. We were very disappointed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel if the restaurants are open"
Hotel was up to our expectations, the closeness to the Vatican. We were disappointed in the restaurants. This seemed to be their big selling point. When we arrived we were told the restaurant was only open for breakfasts and on Friday nights. Their chef had quit and all we received was a continental breakfast. Their rooftop garden restaurant was not […] only closed but you could not even access it to see the view that they had advertised. Both the male and female bartenders were great and very helpful. "Great hotel for the price and great stay."
Everything was great. Room was cleaned daily and the staff was friendly. Breakfast in the am was good and fueled you until mid day. I would stay there again if I went back especially for the price. My one complaint is the front desk person did not tell us how to get to the airport using public transportation. My guess is they want you to use their shuttle […] service to the airport for 20 Euros per. Dont do it. We took the Metro to the main station (1.50 euro per) then we took a bus to the airport (4 Euros per). Overall the hotel was in a great location and it was perfect for unwinding and sleeping. When you are in Rome you shouldn't be spending a whole lot of time in your room anyhow. Book it if you are thinking about this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Good hotel, good location. Nice neighborhood. You can wave to the Pope from there. Staff is average but willing to help. Roof top is NOT open and a bit of a let down. "Friendly Staff!"
Great location for Vatican City and a metro stop was close by. Staff (front desk, servers, housekeepers) was amazingly helpful and friendly. I was sad that the roof garden was under renovation, but the restaurant had beautiful city views. Breakfast had a vast selection of rolls, meats, cheeses, etc. Airport pickup was also greatly appreciated. "Roman Hotel A Decent Value"
The hotel was in a good location with an excellent little restaurant close by. Bus stops were also minutes away. Overall the hotel was a great value and very clean. "Good hotel if you are on a budget!"
One of the least expensive "nice" hotels that you find in Rome that are in the middle of everywhere. Just short walking distance to the Vatican and Saint Peter Square - I cannot complaint since I was on a budget. Rooms are small but very clean. I thought the internet was included but you have to pay to use it, you have to buy cards for hourly use. Also, […] they do not have a maintenance crew on standby so my phone did not work for the 6 nights I was there. "Atlante Star Hotel - Rome, Italy"
Overall, I thought it was a good place to stay in Rome, Italy. Very close to the Vatican. My two issues are: 1) A plumbing problem in the hotel forced us to move out for one night. They sent us to their sister hotel (Atlante Garden), obviously no extra charge. But I felt that we should have been offered some type of "compensation" like a free breakfast […] or maybe a drink or two in their lounge. 2) It felt like they turned down the heat during the night. "An Old, Outdated Dump"
We went to Rome 2 days before our cruise and stayed at this place. What a dump! We only chose it because has a "free" shuttle service from Leonardo daVinci Airport (FC0) that we had to wait an hour for. We came to find out that "Free" shuttle service is worked into the price. The "Professional Photos" are completely misleading. You can barely turn around […] in this hotel. The place is old & outdated. The elevator can only hold 4 people max. You open the door to your room & there is the bed. It's just a room built around a bed about 6" from the desk. The walls are about 10" from the bed all around. It had a bidet in the bathroom which is completely gross. Who would use a bidet in a hotel room? The shower curtain had mold on it & I refused to use it. The CLOTH bedspread looked ratty & about 30 years old. Breakfast is almost non-existent. Also, they don't have key cards. They have actual keys on a cheesy tassle that you have to stick in a keyhole so anyone can make a copy of your room key. They also take your passports upon check in & you get it back later which I did not like. Itt's not in a great part of town. Grafitti on buildings everywhere you look. Also, it is apparently on a street that ambulances use to get the hospital so you can listen to sirens going by when in your room esp. trying to sleep @ night. Avoid this place. I feel we overpaid for what we got. I couldn't wait to get out of there. This is NOT a 4 star hotel. It's a 1-2 star hotel at best. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice little hotel near the Vatican"
Our stay at the Atlante Star was very comfortable and pleasant, though the location was not optimal for what we ended up doing. If you plan to spend your time at the Vatican, then this hotel is absolutely perfect. If, like us, you're most interested in what's on the east side of the river, then only consider the Atlante Star if you want a quiet room […] and/or you don't mind walking a lot. The rooms are small and somewhat cramped, and the hallways are only about 1 person wide -- but that's common in Rome, and the Atlante Star makes good use of the space it has and its location in a quiet neighborhood adds greatly to its charm. If you want more room, stay outside the city center. Besides...this is *Rome*...if you find yourself staying in your hotel room a lot, you're doing it wrong! If you stay here, don't ignore the city block just to the south of the hotel. It's a warren of tight little alleyways with lots of hidden gems: a tea shop (Makasar), one of Rome's rare Chinese restaurants, excellent wine bars and restaurants (check out Nuvolari), and little shops and galleries. If you go too far, you'll find yourself on a street lined with touristy restaurants hawking to the Vatican visitors. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not Impressed."
The hotel must have used a professional web designer and photographer because the actual hotel does not come close to the pictures. The room is smaller than one would get on the lower deck of a cruise ship. The walls are paper thin. The cleanliness is more than questionable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.Genuine Expedia guest review
"AMAZING Experience!!!"
The location of the Atlante Star could not have been more perfect!! It was right down the street from the main entrance to the Vatican Museum and Vatican City and many shops and cafes were within a less than 5 minute walk. We decided to do the Hop On/Hop Off bus tour and a pickup location was also within a short walk, so we were easily able to see all […] of the wonderful attractions Rome has to offer. The hotel is very nice and beautiful and had a very charming feel to it! The room was quite small, but not unexpected for an ancient city. And really, who goes to Rome to stay in the room anyway? Our checkout time was before we needed to leave for the airport, so the staff offered to hold our luggage in a front room while we did some last minute exploration of the city. I felt that the staff were a little stuffy, but no more than is to be expected from a 4 star hotel. We used the free airport pickup and paid for the drop off, which was very worthwhile to not have to navigate public transportation with luggage; however, the driving was quite scary. This was not just Rome driving, these were the drivers in particular, so be prepared for a wild ride. The rooftop restaurant, Les Etoils, was pricey but AMAZING!!! The food was unbelievably fantastic and worth every euro! Other reviews had warned of extra charges upon checkout, but the charges are just Rome taxes (which amounted to only 6 euro/night) and the cost of anything that was purchased from the mini bar. "Magical and breathtaking View, can't wait to go back!!!"
Celebrating my son's 20th birthday in Rome was trully an amazing vacation! Staying at the Atlante Star Hotel was perfect! Our room with it's amazing view of the Vatican was trully breathtaking. Our beds looked directly out at the Vatican and to see it first thing in the morning and then at nite when it's all lite up was BEAUTIFUL AND MAGICAL! The views […] from the resturant were incredible and so was the breakfast, very delicous. All the hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. "Great Location!"
The hotel is within walking distance to the Vatican City, the hop on hop off buses, metro, and the square where you can board a bus to your desired destination. The airport pick up was complimentary which was a huge plus!!! They were not able to accommodate us in the main hotel because of plumbing problems and noisy guests as the receptionist had claimed […] and instead, we were housed in this very quaint apartment type place next door complete with a living room. Because of this, we were offered free breakfast during our entire stay in the hotel's Les Etoiles resto which has a superlative view!!! The room was small and the aircon which looks like brand new to me was making annoying noises. The small, antiquated TV was not working (we didn't complain cause we didn't mind at all). The bathroom is spacious, new, and is always kept clean but it could use a new shower curtain. The mount for the shower head was also not working. There is a grocery store behind the hotel and a bakery just next door. It is also close to restaurants that are just a block away. The receptionists are always nice and accommodating! Over all, I would still highly recommend this hotel despite of those glitches aforementioned! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great Value"
While the room was small (there was no seating besides the bed), the bathroom was very spacious and the room was very clean. I misread the hotel description and thought that every room would have a view of the Vatican, which we did not. But we had a small terrace that overlooked an alleyway between buildings. I have seen other reviews that said this […] alleyway was filthy, but I thought it was very quaint, and it was nice to sit out there after a long day of sightseeing, enjoy a glass of wine, and read through the guidebooks to decide on a restaurant for dinner. I was also concerned that this location on the other side of the river would not be convenient for other attractions besides the Vatican, but the metro stop was very close, and we actually walked to most places. The airport pickup was very convenient. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"cheap but great locale"
This little hotel is great for folks wanting an inexpensive place to stay in a great location who aren't to expecting many hotel amenities.....no bellhop, a minimal continental breakfast not included in price, no new towels, no key cards (they use actual keys they ask you to turn in each time you leave as they have no replacements). The room was very […] small but clean, comfortable and air conditioned (we stayed there in August). The bathroom ceiling was moldy likely due to lack of fan and the shower curtain was old and a poor fit so it didn't keep the shower water in the tub and water flooded daily onto the bathroom floor. There was plenty of hot water and the staff were very responsive to any requests, the front desk was open 24 hours and English spoken by most. The hotel restaurant was open daily for continental breakfast (i would rate as average) but was closed for dinner 2 of the nights we were there. The hotel overall was desperately in need of updating ie some outlets didn't work, carpets were old, color schemes were outdated, etc. Would not give it the 3 star rating that expedia gave it but would recommend it for what it is, a cheap convenient place 5 minutes from the Vatican!
