Home of the Rialto Market, San Polo is the busiest 'sestiere' (district) after San Marco. For local colour, great little shops, bars and cafes, the Rialto market area is a must. Dining on the Grand Canal next to the iconic Rialto Bridge is a romantic Venetian cliché. Near the bridge, the Ca' Pesaro is home to the Museum of Modern Art while 16th-century masterpieces are on show at the Frari church and Scuola Grande di San Rocco.see all hotels in Venice

"Room for 4"
We are a family of 4 and stayed all together in one room at this hotel and we were very pleased. It was big enough, but not spacious. We also stayed at the Hotel Firenze in Venice at the end of our trip (which was more expensive) and we liked Locanda better. It is a great location with excellent views, nice enough room and a fairly nice staff. We liked […] staying in this section of Venice better than right near St. Marks because it was less crowded. Good room especially for the price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great for those on budget wanting a stay in Venice"
This was a wonderful hotel to stay in. We didn't think that we were going to be able to afford to stay right in Venice, but found this one on Expedia. It was more than we usually spend on a hotel, but we were right on the Grand Canal with a great view of the Rialto Bridge. The room was very basic in an older building, but was very clean and comfortable […] and the location couldn't be beat! A very filling breakfast is included and the hotel staff was very helpful. Would recommend to anyone on a budget who wants to experience the romance and convenience of staying right in Venice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location for a great price"
Very centrally located. View of the Rialto bridge from the hotel. Free breakfast was good but with few options. Rooms were comfortable. Very helpful staff but they charged me 5 euros for wifi. But I will help you save 5 euros for a gilato. The password is - hotelovidiusGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was a lovely experience. The location was great as it was next to Ponte Rialto. The breakfast was yummy and the view was amazing. I have to say that the breakfast hours were from 8 to 10:30 however I had to check out around 7 am so they made sure that the breakfast was ready very early morning. This was very nice of them.Genuine Expedia guest review
Second time at this hotel. Perfect location within 15 minutes walking to most areas in Venice. A little noisy at times. Old Venice charm.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Fun Facts to Know and Tell"
For a three star hotel my stay was very nice. Were I to rate it very nice however someone will wonder why they didn't get a mint on their pillow. This is an entirely European hotel with an elevator and a shower stall each about 2 1/2 feet square. As of May 2012 The Hotel Ovidius is in two side by side parts. One part has no elevator and residents in […] that part, to reach the breakfast room, must go outside and back in. This might be considered a great inconvenience for many. To join the two parts of the hotel, all that has to happen is for a false wall to be removed, for which the Ovidius is trying to get a permit. The day staff, typically Lucia, was simply delightful; informed and helpful and fluent. (Should you stay tell her Paul says "hi".) The evening and night staffs were equally friendly but appeared less knowledgeable and certainly less fluent in my native language, English. A few of the rooms front on the Grand Canal overlooking the Rialto. Occasionally however the Rialto area gets noisy in the evening so if you're an early-to-bed type like me you might be happier in a less scenic interior room. Views of the Rialto are however available from the small terrace off the breakfast room (on one side of the hotel) or from the veranda (on the other side). Wifi is available in the second floor breakfast room and (so I hear) the first floor sitting room below it. It might stretch to the rooms on either side of these but you probably won't get a decent signal in your room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"It was Great."
It was great I would stay there again in a heart beat.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is right on the Grand Canal and less than a 100 yars from the Rialto bridge. The view from the cafeteria is very good. I noticed that I could hear everything from outside my room window, but fortunately, it was very quiet the night we were there.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Unforseen problem with sewage"
Unfortunately, there was a foul odor in the elevator on the first day, and then the second day it was worse by the third day the plumbers were here and ripped up the lobby floor which is very small. The whole hotel smelled awful. It was taken care by the evening but made our afternoon a bit uncomfortable after a long day of sight seeing.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Locanda Ovidius - PERFECT Location"
If you are looking for a hotel that is in the center of everything, this is the place for you. Perfect location close to the Rialto Bridge overlooking the Grand Canal. Easy walk to St. Mark's Square. Loved sitting out on the balcony at night just watching the goings on outside. Our room was a good size and clean with a nice view of a side residential […] street; however, it was quite noisy in the morning from an early hour on. Staff was helpful when asked for information but not overly friendly. The hairdryer was broken in our room. We brought it to the attention of three different front desk staff but it was never fixed during our stay. The continental breakfast was not very good at all - packaged croissants, warm milk for cereal, etc. Overall though we really enjoyed our stay - the awesome location and nice, clean room made up for some of the minor issues we encountered. Would definitely recommend. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very pleased with my stay at Hotel Locanda Ovidius"
I stayed at this hotel for one evening this past June during the middle of tourist season. I greatly enjoyed the hotels staff, the hotel's location and my room's view. The lowdown: The part of the hotel where I stayed did not have an elevator. However, my stay here was at the beginning of my trip, so carrying my bags up the stairs wasn't so bad. The […] hotel did have internet but I wasn't there long enough to use it. But I think it was five Euro's for a certain amount of time. Being close to the Rialto Bridge was huge because it made finding our hotel easy after getting lost several times wandering through the streets and canal ways of Venice. My Italian was terrible, but all I had to do was ask somebody "Rialto Bridge" and I could get pointed in the right direction. This hotel took both Italian two-prong and European three-pong power adapters. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Locanda Ovidiuson theVenice Grand Canal"
What a wonderful little (18 room) hotel in a super great & central location! We were very charmed by the multi-lingual Luccia at the front desk and all the staff was nice. Our "upgrade" room (Rm 203) had a comfy bed, charming street view and traditional Venician chandelier - but a terribly tacky picture on the wall. The newly re-done all-tile bathroom […] with bidet & whirlpool tub would have been wonderful had there been some kind of shower curtain on it (I was assured it's in the plans). The included basic breakfast is nothing special (toast, ham, yogurt, juiice) but the coffee is good and breakfast room has a spectacular view of the busy Grand Canal. Definitely check out the Black Cat bar at the far end of the street with one euro glasses of wine! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel near the Grand Canal"
Hotel was well situated to walk around Venice. Staff was pleasant, hotel is well-maintained for the age of the building, nice breakfast buffet and rooms are fine. "My visit to Venice"
The Hotel room was a little awkward. Our room was in a former attic, the only access was via a spiral staircase. The restroom was located at the mid level of the room and was accessed via the spiral staircase. That made things a little inconvieniant especially after a couple of glasses of wine. The other thing that was a little bit of a pain the sleeping […] area was split level meaning the floor under the head of the bed was about 8 inches lower than the foot of the bed. They made up the difference by shortening the legs of the bed at one end to level the bed. The only problem was the floor was all done in laminate of the same color. Making the 8 inch drop invisible to the eye, almost broke our neck in a couple of occasions . Given the cost of rooms in Venice the hotel was not a bad value. Would not stay there again if the same room was issued to me (301). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We upgraded to a room with a view when we arrived. Definitely worth the money. The hotel is situated off the Canal near Rialto. The view was amazing at all times of the day. "An ideal romantic getaway"
This hotel wont be for everyone, but for us it was amazing. The first thing to say is that the staff were amazing. Truly wonderful people who seemed happy to see us and always wanted to help. Breakfast was excellent, a choice of different things for all tastes. The location was outstanding, we had a superb Grand Canal view and just a short stroll to […] some lovely bars and restaurants that were great value. On a slight downside, the air con didn't work and the shower head kept falling off the wall and spaying the room, but these are small issues when put against all the great things. "Nice tucked away hotel near Rialto bridge"
The hotel's condition was a little bit worse than I was expecting for the ratings I had seen and the price of the hotel. But everything is more expensive in Venice, and more expensive to keep up, so I can't say it was terribly surprising. The location was great, just down the canal from the Rialto bridge. Very close to the Rialto market. The wi-fi was […] a pretty big rip-off. We had to pay 5 Euro for a wi-fi password that only worked in the common areas. So we paid 5 Euro to use wi-fi when there is a computer available anyway. The wi-fi showed up on devices in our room, but the connection was so slow I just used my 3G on my phone. "Reasonable place to stay in very central location"
Stayed there for 12 nights. Close to everything - 10 min walk to St Mark's square, 15 min to Pl Roma, waterbus stop across canal. very good location to explore Venice. We were initially disappointed that our room did not have a view of the canal, but that turned out to be good thing since the Canal Grande is noisy from the early morning to late night. Breakfast […] includes cofee, tea, milk, juices, toast bread, ham and salami, cake, cereal, variety of jams and is the same every day. If you need variety, something freshly cooked (i.e. eggs) or fruits and vegetables, you need to go outside of find a hotel with full kitchen. If you are not picky, there is enough food to fill you up until lunch. Just about the only complain we have is lack of WiFi signal in the room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great for a weekend in Vinice!"
Fantastic location and excellent staff, who were incredibly helpful and very pleasent. Decor was in keeping with the whole Venice experience - shabby [but not too shabby] chic. Only slight downside was that our room was a tad on the 'shoebox' side, but not deal buster. One of the best aspects of the hotel were the belconies overlooking the Grand Canal […] and the Rialto Bridge. Surprised it was only 3 stars really. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The location of this hotel was very conveniently located almost next to the Rialto Bridge where it was very easy to access vaporetto's (water bus), water taxis, gondolas, restaurants, and shopping. The room (triple) was quite tight with a cot squeezed in for my son but we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. Although the room had no view, the […] hotel did have a nice little balcony overlooking the Grand Canal and the Rialto where we could relax with a glass of wine and watch the world go by at night. The only thing that was a little awkward was that we were required to return the room key (no scan cards) to the front desk everytime we left the hotel and pick it up when we returned. There was always someone very nice at the front desk 24/7 so it became a non-issue. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not bad considering the price of everything else in Venice"
Stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Locanda Ovidius in September 2011. The location is superb, the Alilaguna waterbus stop from the airport is just on the opposite side of the Grand Canal and it's a 5 min walk over the Rialto Bridge (you might have to push your way through a few tourists but they soon move if you're carrying a large suitcase). The reception […] is next door and the staff are very friendly and make every effort for you. There is a balcony at the front of the hotel where you can sit and watch life pass by on the Grand Canal and look at the Rialto Bridge. The room is really clean and the bed was comfy however it is a bit shabby and the shower could have done with a curtain to keep water in but it did the job. Compared with the prices of other hotels and for it's location you couldn't fault this place. Breakfast is a continental affair which is ok, nothing special but set you up for the day. The location is so central that it's really easy to get about and explore all the main districts. St Mark's Square is about a 10 min walk. The Saturday morning market just round the corner from the hotel is well worth a visit. Overall we had a fantastic weekend and would stay again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Venice in Springtime"
Hotel was a bit tired, but warm & comfortable, although the view from our window was not great. But it was more than made up for by the staff who were brilliant & very helpful, even helped us check in on line for our return journey. They gave us plenty of useful advice & help. Breakfast was served on the 1st floor through main entrance (which kept you […] fit) and was plentiful, of good quality & not rushed. Hotel has a nice, small lounge with balcony to relax in after a lot of walking. The position of the hotel couldn't have been better, 2 mins from Rialto Bridge & waterbus stops, which meant it was very easy to find. We saw a lot of people who were having difficulty finding & losing their hotels. There were loads of good restaurants & bars in easy reach. We really enjoyed our stay. "Great view of the Rialto Bridge"
This hotel was in a great location for us. Close to the S Silvestri vaporetto stop. We had trouble finding it but I think that is the way of Venice and the crap map we purchased. We had an excellent view of the Grand Canal and the Rialto bridge from our room. This is devine but noisy, especially around dawn as the restuarants below have their supplies […] delivered. Rooms at the back wouldn't have this issue but no view either. Our room was huge as was the bath room. Generally the condition was good but a little run down. The paint on the walls was quite heavily oxidised and I got this on my clothes from brushing against it...just a nuisance..not the end of the world. Breakfast was adequate, reasonable choice just not a good as others we have had. The dining room had nice views but was tiny (maybe 5 tables) meaning not everyone could be seated. Some had to come back later. I would stay here again.
