"Misleading on location too far from City Center"
OK hotel misleading on distance from City Center not only is it far its also through remote and more commercial areas. Staff uninformed about breakfast hours we were told by two different people wrong hours. WIfi did not work in room despite responsive staff until the next day when Manager assisted. The staff were very nice on our arrival and gave the kids little welcome bags which was a nice touch. The hotel room was very noisy as its right beside a busy roundabout and a petrol station and for this reason alone I won’t be returning. I had picked this hotel for the convince to the city but to be fair I didn’t need to be that close as I had a car […] I should have chosen a different location. "nice trip but with one or two exceptions"
stayed in the pillo as my partner and I were booked for a gig in Galway, hotel was fantastic and immaculate. However the only thing I will say is we were charged an astronomical price for something small to eat and two drinks to be brought to our room, as we were rushing the following morning to make it home for Christmas I didn't have time to pose […] the question to the receptionist, whom i may add was extremely helpful. The only other thing I will add is that we were ready to head down to check out for half 11 when the same porter who dropped up our food the previous night barged in the door, thinking there was nobody in there... which may have been possible as we had only changed the room from non smoking to smoking the evening beforehand. "Good location but needs a bit of maintenance"
Our room was spacious and spotless but cold. There was a small extra heater provided and that helped. I have stayed in the Pillo often and enjoy the short walk into town. I also enjoy the easy access to the key road network.Genuine Expedia guest review

The hotel was functional. The meal in the bar area was only adequate. I ordered Thai Green Curry and the portion size was small (I was still hungry afterwards!) and the rice was rotten (burned/overcooked in one half), my work colleagues meal had a really good portion size of stir fry veg and chicken. When I mentioned this to the staff member he just […] said "no problem" well a small portion is actually a bit of a problem. However, the dessert was heavenly!! Also, when my colleague rang up about a leisure centre we were told there was none, which was true but we could have been told that there was a gym facility (which was actually what we were looking for). On another note there was also only one portion of conditioner for two people to share (we had our own so we were ok) but you could have been more generous! "stuffy room for summertime"
I think I would have enjoyed this hotel more in the wintertime, as it got incredibly warm and dry and stuffy in the room, opening the one window didn't help as it didn't open more than a few inches. obviously this is an issue there because there were two desk fans that came with the room, but those only served to move the warm air around a bit and so […] we spent the evenings with wet towels to keep cool (it wasn't even very warm outside!) otherwise, staff was nice, restaurant wasn't bad, the location wasn't fantastic but if you're up for a good walk to Eyre Square area it's about 25 minutes down a not-so-pretty street. "Pillo Hotel in good location but not 4 star for us"
On arrival to the Pillo Hotel, it is situated very close to city centre which was great. We checked in around 4pm (myself and my partner) and were given the run down of times of breakfast etc... by reception staff. On arrival to our room, 1 of our key cards did not work so we had to get it changed. Room was clean + tidy. Lighting very poor in room. […] There were more lights in the bathroom than in main room. Had been told on booking our room online that we would have a king sized bed but turned out we ended up with 2 doubles in the room. Dropped our bags off & headed for some lunch in the bar. We ordered a starter + main course. Then decided to get a drink with them. I ordered a bottle of beer to find that it was out of date. When asked could I change it the bar man then realised that there was a fridge full of gone off beer (the type I ordered). No one ever apologised to me for this, instead I just had to order a different type! When our starter came out (it was served quite quickly). My partner ordered soup but had to ask for cutlery and butter for the bread.... It took about 25 mins for our main course to be served to us then. Food was nice but the wait no so nice! There were about 6 bar staff on duty but they all seemed to not like working under pressure! 1 man in particular was giving out to the bar manager to "just leave the bar" as there seemed to be a bit of tension between them all. Very unprofessional by both the bar manager and staff. It was busy in the bar but not busy enough for staff to be "nit-picking" amoungst themselves! After that we went for a shower before going out. Bath towels were very very small (they were more like hand towels). There were no shower caps and then only 1 shampoo + 1 shower gel between both of us. Luckily we had our own but there should have been more provided. Fridge was not working either as we had a bottle of water with us just to keep cool. "Pillo Hotel - reasonable but heat out of order"
I stayed at the Pillo hotel recently. I got a disabled room which had a bathroom which had no bath. The room itself was very big which might have been fine if the heat was working. I noticed there were two plug in heaters left in the room and the receptionist said they were having problems with the heating system. Pluses: Nice common areas - high quality fit-out. Staff friendly and good service in restaurant in the mornings. We would recommend the hotel to others, but with a warning about noise levels from roof mounted mechanical plant. The mechanicial plant starts at 6am and runs until approx 11pm and can be heard in all courtyard facing rooms. The alternative is a room overlooking one the roads on either side of the hotel. Difficuly with sleeping due to the noise of the generator, even when we were upgraded to a suite after complaining. Requested breakfast in bed which was not delivered even though we left out the breakfast request card at 11pm (latest time was 3am).
