The hotel is in a rather seedy part of town. But, it's located in a new shopping center that is pretty nice. There's a great market next door and it's close to hop on hop off bus stops. This hotel is not next to any major sites except the Jameson's Distillery. That being said, it is right on the tram line and the Hop On/Off route and about a 15 minute walk to Temple Bar. Very happy with our stay at our hotel. It is behind Jameson distillary, close to train stop, across from a residential building, and right next door to a very complete market. Being next to market saved us a lot of money, they had a deli for sandwiches, and fresh pastries and fruit, and pretty much anything you may need. After a long traveling day and arrival to the Maldron/smithfield, Dublin, from the U.S. we were told that there was an overbooking for our room and we could not stay there the first night. I had paid for this room 3 months in advance and was very upset. The Maldron paid for us to go by taxi, out of town, for the night and then return the next day for […] our two more nights. A nice gesture, including an upgrade when we returned for the next two nights, plus free breakfast. BUT, we did miss out on a previously paid pub tour because we were not close enough to town to go. Very helpful staff, good location for walking to all of the central sites - the hotel is across the street from the old Jameson distillery, a short walk (across the Liffey) to the Guinness Storehouse, and about 20-30 min walk from O'Connell Street, Christchurch, and other points in the center of the tourist district. I have only one caveat: although conveniently located, there are some industrial and fairly deserted blocks to the east between church st and around Wolf Tone St. to the East (where the pedestrian mall picks up), and along the Quay on the river Liffey to the South and just south of the river down to the Guinness Storehouse. It does not feel dangerous, just rundown and very empty at night. Great location -- only a couple minutes walk to the Smithfield Luas station and about 10 -15 walk to the Temple Bar and O' Connell Street. The hotel is within a 2 min walk of the LUAS light rail, so it is very convenient to get to/from. Add another minute or two and you can be at the 747 bus stop back to the airport. My first impression was "Oh no, what is this area?!" However, from the moment I arrived, the front desk was friendly, courteous and helpful. My room was kept VERY clean, Fresh linen daily, and coffee/tea in room replaced. The TV worked for about a few minutes, when the picture went out. The convenience of having the supermarket next door, which also has a cafe, was also a plus. The LUAS is less than 2 blocks away, and easily walkable. In addition, city center is a 10 minute walk. I came home late (after 2am) a few times and was worried about the neighborhood, but was actually safe. I am a walker and could easily walk everywhere. I would definitely return to this hotel. The staff - for the most part (one desk clerk didn't know what she was talking about with the buses)- was friendly and helpful. They kept our luggage for us as we got to Dublin very early. Nice hotel, but if you're a tourist driving, almost impossible to find (I'd been warned, but am very experienced traveler so didn't believe them). They need to publish their street address for GPS, not "Plaza" address. Staff efficient enough, but zero warmth and only answer questions, don't offer anything more. I found the hotel very central great to have the luas stop so near. I think it could do with more signage to help locate the hotel. The room was lovely. The only complaint I would say was that I felt like another guest the personal touch was missing but I would come back again.

The Maldron Hotel in Smithfield, Dublin is a modern well situated hotel in the heart of Dublin. The hotel is central to a lot of the major hot spots. It's also directly opposite the Jameson's Whiskey Museum. There is a small stretch of cafes and deli's right outside the reception. Check out the friendly little cafe 'Third Place'. The hotel itself is about a 10-15 minute walk to Ha’Penny Bridge and Temple Bar which isn’t far at all and is situated in a good location for the Jameson Distillery and some of the shopping centres (Jervis and Parnell St.) The room was clean and comfy and a good 4* hotel in my opinion. The room was not air conditioned and did get hot during our stay […] with no ability to control the heating but we opened the window and that brought the temperature down no end. Shower gel and shampoo are provided in the bathroom along with a trouser press and hairdryer in the room. A good night’s sleep was had with being outside of all the hustle and bustle of the main centre. Room service was good with a “Collect and Grab” service where you have to go to the restaurant to collect the food but this obviously saves on the extra charges you usually find in most hotels. Wasn’t overpriced and a good selection on the menu. The service from the bar/restaurant staff was exceptional at all times; really friendly guys and nothing was ever too much. I would certainly stop here again and recommend it to anyone that’s happy to pay a little less and prepared to walk a little further to the main attractions of Dublin. Read more

A quite modern hotel with rather big rooms and good facilities. We stayed at the hotel the last night in Ireland, so the hotel was chosen as close to the air-flight bus, a two minutes distance. If I return to Dublin again, I´ll bare in mind that this hotell excist, easy living and good location for a short visit in Dublin.
