Leafy Ballsbridge is a quiet and exclusive residential area, a 20-30 minute walk into town (served by frequent buses). The Grand Canal flows through it, and while much of this waterway is less than grand, there is a pleasant stretch near the Richmond Street bridge with canal-side pubs. George Bernard Shaw’s birthplace is a popular neighbouring attraction.

This is a good place for a short stay but a longer stay one might want a place closer to city center. If a fridge or a safe for your valuables are important to you, this is not the place for you. "Poor Management"
This hotel is owned by the Irish government after going into bankruptcy. The entire hotel needs serious updating. The TV is vintage, beds are poor, Magic marker writing on the carpet in the room. A good hotel if using it as a base of operation for sightseeing etc. An easy 25 minute walk from Stephen's Green with plenty of spots in between for eating and/or drinking. We had a great time at the Ballsbridge hotel. There aren't necessarily all of the services (we took our own bag to our room), but it is fairly new, clean, and has friendly staff. "Meets basic needs - don't expect much"
I'm a pretty no frills traveler - all I require is "safe and clean". The hotel was safe, but cleanliness is an issue. Mold on the bathroom walls, peeling paint from the ceilings, broken telephone, stained blanket, and a mattress that was stained by something that could have been blood or old coffee (I only discovered this as I was checking out!). The […] heater rattled loudly at night, and there is noise from the street. The walls are thin, and I was woken every night by other guests in the hallway or in their rooms. The hairdryer is for some reason attached to the desk in such a way that the only way to use it is if you are kneeling (clearly, a woman did not design this!). The faucet on the bidet was broken. The hotel is quite a walk to city center (about 20-25 minutes), which can be hard if you are the kind of traveler who likes to put your feet up for part of the day. The property is in massive need of refurbishing. You can tell the hotel was once very lovely (perhaps in the early 90s), but has not been cared for much since then. I would not stay here again. I was not sad to leave. On the neutral side, the bed is quite firm. That's great if you like firm beds. It's not great if you prefer soft beds. "Ballsbridge Hotel (previously D4 Ballsbridge Inn)"
My husband and I stayed at the Ballbridge Hotel (known at the time of our booking as the D4 Ballsbridge Inn) over St. Patrick's weekend with our friends. Our hotel room was spacious, but left something to be desired. The television was tiny compared to the room and was impossible to watch from the bed. Our room was missing a trash can, so our trash […] ended up on the floor next to the tiny bathroom trash can. There is no information book in the room, so we had to guess how to call the front desk and from room to room. Our bed also had a mattress pad instead of a proper mattress. Also, although the staff were not rude, they did seem indifferent about our comfort or happiness. The hotel has apparently been recently purchased by new owners and renamed, so they could not bring us a new information book and refused to bring us an old one. On the positive side, there was a closet with enough room to store both our bags and hang our clothes and the bathroom and bedroom were large and clean. The hotel is very close to the American and Israeli Embassies and an unfortunately long walk to the city center. The bus system in Dublin is fairly expensive, so it was a 40 minute walk to the Grafton Street area each morning. The hotel breakfast was expensive, so we walked into town to eat each day. All in all the Ballsbridge in is not a bad hotel, but it is certainly not great, and could use some improvement. This hotel is conveniently located near the U.S. Embassy and an assortment of museums on the southside of the city. An aircoach stop is located at the main entrance of the hotel, and a bus stops catering to several routes going to the city center is located right across the street. I needed to meet a friend nearby and one of the receptionists looked up the address and printed the walking route for me. I really appreciated this kindness! My room was quite shabby in comparison to the modern and tasteful lobby. The wallpaper was peeling, there were several stains on the mattress (I always check a mattress for bedbugs...), the furnishings were dusty, and the curtains didn't close all the way. All the staff was very helpful. The upgrade rates were very cheap and the rooms were very nice. The bus stop to take you to the middle of the city is right outside the hotel and is only about a 10-15 minute bus ride. This place is outdated, the service isn't good. The power kept going out on our floor, we were told to get our own ice and glasses from downstairs, the room was filthy, so we paid for the upgrade at the front desk...it wasn't as bad, but wasn't worth the price.
