Decor in need of an update. Otherwise, staff as friendly and helpful. Just in case you're interested in using the gym, be prepared with a jacket. The room was super cold!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely old hotel"
We like to walk, so the location (up a long hill from the city center) was fine for us, but might not be for others. We liked the atmosphere of the old hotel. It was spacious and well decorated, with the modern amenities in the room and bath that everyone likes. The food at breakfast was generous and very good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"It's not a bad hotel..."
Okay. So this hotel is alright. And I don't mean that as hyperbole, I mean it was just alright. Upon arrival (we were several hours early) we were told there was no way we could check in so early. They were busy and people hadn't yet checked out. This was fine and I totally understood it. But if the roles were reversed, I would offer to take the customer's […] bags, the customer would not have to request that I hold them. It wasn't so much the statement as the inference that I was absurd to assume I could show up so early and get a room. In other words, it lacked hospitality. The shower had paint peeling off of the ceiling. It was a bit much but none fell on my head. All & all, the room was alright and not too expensive so it didn't bother me that much but it was still a bit off. The one thing that did really annoy me was that when we first arrived, I asked if I could get a snack--not a meal, just a snack. They suggested my wife & I go to the restaurant where there was a buffet. I grabbed a small box of cereal and a little milk. My wife grabbed a couple of very basic pastries and some jelly. That cost us about 16 euros. I wanted a snack, not a meal. I thought I'd made that clear but I suppose not. The location is fine. Walking to the city center is easy, walking back is on the difficult side as the hotel is on a hill. But you can take a cab for less than what they charge for a pastry and a box of milk. Apart from a bartender, I didn't find the hotel staff to be particularly warm. They weren't rude, just not particularly hospitable. This stands out more in IE where you take for granted the friendliness which is typically pervasive. If you're looking for an inexpensive hotel and just that, I suppose this would be fine. But I'm not sure you couldn't find something a bit friendlier and a bit nicer for not much more. I'm really not one to criticize. I'm sure they're all good people but basic improvements could be made in terms of paint touch-ups, hospitality and care. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Scary Drive/Beautiful Hotel"
While for an American, driving through the tiny streets of Cork was a bit terrifying, our destination paid off. The Ambassador is a beautiful old building with a cute bar/lounge and a wonderful view of the city. Our room was huge and we had access to the gym which had plenty of machines to use as well as free weights, stability balls, and mats. Also, […] it's about a 20 minute walk to town which isn't bad at all. Breakfast was odd though; our server basically told us what to order and said not to order a la carte because "no one does that" huh.... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"not so hot..."
the building is quite pretty, but that was about the only thing we liked. the folks at the reception desk were simultaneously ingratiating and haughty when first the key cards didn't work, and then, there were no towels in the room. they were also unfriendly when it was pointed out that they brought one set of towels for two people, though they did […] bring another set. also, don't get the breakfast! it was terrible. we ordered omelets, and we received two plates of burnt eggs, each of which was missing toppings. of all the places we stayed in ireland, this was the worst breakfast (and come to think of it worst hotel) by a long shot! "The Ambassador Hotel"
This hotel was perfect for a weekend stay. It is not too far from the city centre but it is a big of a walk up a very large hill to get there. The surrounding area is also not somewhere i would walk alone at night as a lady! Staff are friendly and the room was clean! No complaintsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice place for overnight in Cork city"
A unique styling in that it is an old hospital/nursing home type building converted to a Hotel. If you can get a room front facing, they have lovely high ceilings and a fab view over Cork city. Hotel standards are of a good 3 star, rather than 4 star, but good all the same. Would recommend it for for an overnight.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable relaxing hotel, with excellent service"
Hotel was a great base for exsploring the area of cork. we had a problem with our key into the room we were asked to wait in reception while it was sorted out and supplied with complimentary coffee and scones, 30 mins later we were up graded to a room with a balcony all this efficancy with out a word of complaint from us. This hotel is very clean and […] has old world charm, with very helpfull and efficant staff. we would deffinatly go back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"the ambassador in cork -a good old fashioned hotel"
the fillet steak (25 euros) was best i have ever had. it was a shame that the dining room was only open at the weekend. the steep hill can be overcome by bus services numbers 7 and 8 from the bus station. a good soft bed was another good reason to take a holiday at this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Ambassador Hotel - Cork"
