"A very nice American style hotel"
When we first arrived Amsterdam via train from Brussels we quickly found the trams. Take the #13 Tram and it will take you to the hotel in about 10-15 minutes maximum. Think of it as a more suburban hotel with extremly easy access to the central city. The staff is welcoming and the decor very nice in the lobby. The room itself is very nice with wde […] expansive windows allowing for lots of natural light. A desk complete with coffee and tea service. . Nice storage for our clothes. The bed itself is a bit not secure as the mattress moves a touch. The pillows were very insginificant but funtiional. TV service is available and limiited but what did we care as we were there to see the city. The bathroom is a slight step up and very comfortable. Very large counter for all of your personal things like tooth brushes and razors and such. The shower itself was the most disappointing. It is designed without a door and the water incurison into the other area of the bathroom was always something we had to contend with. Low flow shower head was a challanging as well but all in all it is no reason to not stay here. All and all this is a very very nice hotel. The trade off for cost vs location was good enough for us to take a chance. We stayed our planned two night and learned our way around before spending our other planned two nights inside the city with its much more expensive price tag. Located in a nice neighborhood (very close EU Parliament) and at a very short walking distance from the metro, the hotel was a good find. We took the metro to the city center (only 3-4 stops away) and that was very convenient. The hotel lobby and bar has comfortable lounges and game areas, with a nice outdoor patio for a good weather. What a great hotel for the money! Very modern, huge very well appointed room with free wi-fi!!! The staff were young and helpful. (Caveat), This hotel IMO, is skewed toward a younger clientele. They convert much of the lobby area into a bar/club in the evening and the music in the lobby is upbeat (loudish) much of the day, but we were there on the weekend […] and I couldn't hear it at all while we were trying to sleep. The rooms were very quiet. The Aloft is located in the EU quarter, not the city center, so for tourist attractions and shopping it could be a bit of a hike (2-3k), but the metro staion is right around the corner. There are also quite a few restaurants and pubs a couple blocks away, and a wonderful pastry/ coffee shop just around the corner. My wife and I spent a couple nights in Brussels on our vacation, and had a lot of fun there. I stayed at the Aloft hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is very close to EU headquarters, and a 5 minute walk to the Schuman subway station, and bus to the airport. The hotel itself is very modern and hip, the rooms are very large for european standards, the room is large for american standards. "Overall okay hotel but beware of a security flaw"
Located close to train station Good size room, comfortable bed & nice shower. But 1) telephone not working – which is fine had it not beeped loudly every 5 minutes 2) the tissue box was empty (it was a cold day and I wanted to blow my nose, I used toilet paper instead). I popped out for a walk & mentioned to the reception staff. When I returned the […] tissues box was filled and their “engineer” removed the battery out of the telephone. In the evening, I scolded my hand from the hot water coming from the sink tap (lovely surprise - no cold water). I have stayed at Aloft Brussels Schuman previously for a longer break without these problems. So I was led to the conclusion that if your here to stay 1 night – they’ll give you a below average room. Regarding the security flaw: we (2 girls) were almost pick-pocketed inside the hotel by 2 men who walked through front reception without being questioned (1 staff only). We were waiting in the bar area which ironically had no bar staff or staff members. (this area also has an entrance / exist). 1 man approached us and started talking in French; used this as a distraction whilst his companion unzipped my bag. I turned just in time. We had a lucky escape as these were 2 physically strong men & the situation had the potential to be worse. It is unacceptable that hotel will open entrances but not have staff attending. The hotel itself is very modern and comfy. Nice location. And nice service. The bar is pretty expensive though, and I didn't like the fact that they are a 'Dog friendly' hotel....however the maximum weight of the dog cant be more than 18kg. "Outstanding 21st Century Hotel"
The only words to describe this hotel are simply outstanding. Right from booking to check-out they were available to make sure my stay was the best it could be. This is a hotel for the 21st century traveller; from their engagement with social media, to the free wi-fi available throughout the whole building and the hi-tech facilities within the room, […] everything is ready to make your stay as comfortable as possible. When I arrived, I was greeted by extremely helpful and friendly staff. The staff were completely engaged in my visit to Brussels and knew me and recognised me on a first name basis throughout my stay. They were always on hand to offer advice about what to do, where to visit etc. The room was large, had an excellent view over Place Jean Rey (although it should be noted there was some construction work in the local area at the time of my stay). The facilities within the room were of the highest quality as was the excellent re-fuel snack area downstairs. I had several nice evenings in the bar too with excellent an beer and cocktail selection. I would also like to draw attention to the green/eco friendly ethos of the hotel - from using eco friendly suppliers to guests being able to decline house-keeping for a day and being rewarded with a €5 voucher for use in the snack station or bar area. A nice and modern equipped hotel right next to the "European quarter" of Brussels. The self-service concept of the bar in the hotel lobby sometimes unfortunately makes the guest to wait quite a while when the reception desk is busy - room for improvement. "Disappointing"
I have stayed at this hotel twice now as I am a frequent visitor to Brussels. The room smelt of foul water on both stays. They were different rooms. The smell appeared to come from the drains in the shower. They seem to have a problem with them. I have found the staff to be friendly and helpful save for when I followed a sign saying 3 items for 6 Euros […] for breakfast only to be charged full price for the goods because the said that the offer expired 10 minutes before, even though they had kept the offer sign up. The staff obviously could and should have only charged the offer price of 6 Euros. They were also fairly rude in breaching their contractual obligations. I was with my family, so I did not think it was worth having an argument with them over a few Euros that they had over charged me by. But the experience has left a sour taste in my mouth and I will certainly think twice before staying their again. Other hotels treat their guests better and don't smell. "Aloft - Big and Roomy"
If you're a tourist, this hotel may be a little out of the way. You got to take the Metro to Grand Place, etc. You could walk, which will take you 30minutes from Grand Place... (We walked 'cos the Metro happened to be on strike when we were there). It's a relatively easy straight walk though back to the hotel. Hotel rooms are indeed very spacious, […] which was a big plus. There's 2 mirrors provided in the toilet which we found useful when the both of us needed to use the mirror at once. The only downsides which we experienced was due to our key card and a rather clueless service staff. Our key card didn't work at first, which got fixed. You see our room was located pretty far in so having to go all the way down after a tired day wasn't welcome. After it was fixed on the first night, it didn't work again on the second night. Which made me wonder if the male member staff member remembered I'll be staying for 3 nights. It was the same member that mentioned he'll need to Google when we asked where is a nearby supermart. Stayed at this hotel for two nights and my wife and I were very pleased. The rooms are large and have everything you need for a great stay. The soundproofing between room and corridor/other rooms was not brilliant and there was some evidence of discolouration of the tile grout together with a shower door that did not close properly were disappointing in such a new building. "Great hotel - not so great attitude of some staff."
We loved the hotel. Room has great layout and free internet is great especially that all other hotels charge for it. We stayed there for 3 nights. Breakfast after the first night - sadly very disappointing, when we went downstairs at (7:30am) there was only 1 type of bread (little buns - like Petit Pain ) leftovers of ham and cheese (literally only […] few slices left). Price is 6 Euros for 3 items (coffee is counted as 1 item), 10 Euros for 5 items and 25 Euros for eat what you can. Our 3 items were so not much as a breakfast so on following two mornings we decided to eat elsewhere. The positives: Great Room, great layout, nice toiletries, great oversized shower and fluffy towels. each room has fridge that is empty - so you can buy food and drinks in a supermarket on the other side of the hotel and keep it there. The negatives: Breakfast (as mentioned above) and staff attitude - especially one male member of staff who decided to make belittling comments when I complained for the problem I had during checkout.
